I agree that Walloon Guards are awful on stats, but in the Peninsular Campaign they are actually very useful. In fact, they provide a moral boost to nearby troops and are recruitable in an advanced stage of the campaign, just in time to preciously counter units like Polish Legion, Young Guard and Swiss Infantry. Unfortunately, you can recruit just 2-3 units of them if I am not mistaken...

Playing the Europe campaign and wondering what artillery I should invest in. I remember from Empire: TW that cannons get really powerful with shrapnel rounds, but they don't have these here. Howitzers get AoE shells and can fire over your own ranks, but in Empire they were very inaccurate and they have less range. What do you recommend?

I recently had 2 battles on austerlitz against 3 same opponents, fuckers had 5 mortars, lots of melee infantry and high quality units including a militia spam and 5 of 12-24lb pounders camping on austerlitz hill, assholes. What i learned: always bring howitzers and a battery in online battles, you are playing mostly against assholes. We lost, just too much artillery and position too strong for our assaulting exhausted units, they lost half their armies.

I appreciate the video. I am new to this game and I love it. I would also like to know some good formation and tactics in battles with very rugged terrain and also battles that outnumber my army. Thank you!!

I remember one piece-of-work hosting a fort map where the rules were "no arty" and then when I loased the game he had the fort full of rockets, mortars and elite infantry. Really left a sour taste about the whole ETW community.

Hands down best cav unit save maybe French chasseurs just for cost/upkeep and versatility. Lancers charge bonus is devastating on flanks or vs militia type units. You can roll up entire armies with a well timed charge. Their only real downside is if the enemy unit doesnt break their mele is garbage. Any prolonged engagement youre losing the whole unit quick.

CZcams reccomended me your channel and I love the tips you give here. Very basic refresher. But I have to ask: On Italian grassland I engaged a Old Guard on a hill. Okay so I had Walloon guards with Spanish fusiliers. I know Spain is weak, so I charged Spanish Curisassers, into the old guard. My wallon engaged but it was 75 vs 95. Still BOTH of them lost. I've seen players with more skill than me use the weak factions of NTW to devastating effect and I can barely make a dent playing the other factions. How do you combat the gun cav of other nations if you don't have cav that can basically counter it such as Prussia?

arty isnt really great against arty unless you have experienced crews. Youre better off targeting cavalry/ generals at range than loading cannister and targeting the best enemy unit up close

i find that if you form a V shape around the artillery with the infratry line you can defend the artillery way better creating a cone of death just in front of the center. Obviusly you are way more subjectable to flanking but usually AI tries to flank one side of a time, you can then try and slowly retreat that side and advance the other side, keeping the cone of death where it needs to be
