In her prime she was the best. Rest in peace.

She is the BEST!
Beverly Sills brought so many of us to Opera. I was a child watching her sing an Aria on Daytime Television. That is what got me hooked to Opera and Opera Singers. Next trip was to the Local Library that, thank God, had Albums and so many of the operas and recitals were Beverly Sills. I then branched out to other singers and other Operas and the rest became History. Sill was such a great gift to the world.
She looks very lovely in rehearsal without the fake lashes😊
Che meraviglia !!!
Cosi si fa il legato.
Ahhh, I miss her so. What beautiful, effortless singing.
I would love to see more rehearsal videos with Beverly Sills.
This is an authentic coloratura singing Bellini in pitch. Who out there now in 2017 can do it?
Lisette Oropesa is marvelous, with equally good coloratura and better trills.

What a sweetheart. What an artist.
She sang so well
I love absolutely everything about this video. =)
Marvelous artists.
Stupenda, meravigliosa!
She was just a wonder. You can hear her joy in singing - she wasn't nicknamed "Bubbles" for nothing! Love love love her.
what a rude and nasty comment. you could've saved it.
Her E flat is still amazing as the end of her career. Sills had class and humility. She knew when to retire, put the vocal cords away & walk away with dignity. Unlike some high sopranos today ( not mentioning any names ) who are straining & screeching notes that are now in their mid or late 60's and think they still got it.
Sills said this was one of her most difficult & memorable & favourite roles. Her diction ( like in probably everything she sang ) was spot on. And thank god she had the brilliant Roland Gagnon in her career do her coloratura embellishments. Many people don't get it that in many florid "show case" roles good olympic embellishments are a big part of it. Not every singer can do Wagner. AND not every singer can do good coloratura singing.
Listening to such beautiful voice cheers up my day.. Like it very much!!
His agility is way off too.
One of the Best for sure!!!
Insteresting to watch the early talent of a future diva. Beverly grew up in a place where there is ground to develop one's skills. In many other countries, she would have probably become a good singer, but not the prima donna she became by living in USA.
she is just outrageously good
What a glorious sound that woman made.
Oy Vey.
I love Beverly and agree that her expressiveness is unparalelled. And now I have to find more of Henry Price's recordings. I love his voice!
Very good, especially considering the era it was recorded. I prefer the tonal beauty of Lezhnevas recording here on youtube. But still very good baroque interpretation here during a time where everyone was still trying to sing Händel as if it was Verdi or Wagner....
World Class Soprano - what more is there to say!
Sills was so great with the lighter material, such as Victor Herbert. It seemed to fit her personality. Whenever I think of her, I hear strains of Lippen Schweigen, Italian Street Song, or something similarly frothy in my head, rather than any heavier roles. It also seemed to fit her light but incredibly bright voice. There are many opera greats I never got to hear in person. Thank god she was not one of them.
DANNY WAS THE BEST!
awww i wish should would have done the whole song
Credit Bevo for always getting her way !
she certainly mastered singing loudly. gives me a headache listening to this little bit of her.
amesavis jerk
Also my kind thanks .!
She is good at using Bel Canto with the aria
wow ... terribly funny.. and perfect, thank you for sharing..
Just simply exquisite. It's a shame she never recorded a Jerome Kern album. How's this sound: Beverly Sills sings Kern, Gershwin & Porter.
Nu -- You think it would go over in English?
Thanks for having this resource on youtube of many of Beverly Sills performances. Just listening to her isn't enough. She radiates charm, sweetness and happiness - such a pleasure to both watch and listen to.
Love Danny Kaye.
As a huge fan of Sutherland's Cleopatra, I think Silsl is better than La Stupenda in this role. This, along with her Elizabeth in Donizetti's "Roberto Devereux" and her Pamina in Rossini's "The Siege of Corinth" is enough to place Sills among the greatest coloraturas of our time.
Is this the performance she made on PBS in San Francisco?
The prima of this production was to be In Memoriam Norman Treigle.
Excellent performance. This two women are so emotional. I like that!
I was a kid, from Brooklyn, who listened and saw Ms. Sills at the NYC Opera Company and today just seeing her and listening to her beauiful voice again makes me homesick for Brooklyn, NYC Opera Company and Beverly. She was delightful and lots of fun and that voice . .
This is sheer BRILLIANCE! The heart-wrenching emotion Ms Sills is able to portray that makes the words she is singing come alive and move you to tears (well me at least!) is just breath-taking. It is that innate ability Ms Sills had of touching and portraying the very heart and soul of the music and becoming one with it that so few others have ever achieved. I just listened to Diana Damrau in this same scene and although she sang all the notes technically correctly, it was devoid of any emotion.
I think even here, near the end of her career when her soft high floating notes were only a memory, she was STILL better than Flemming, Dessay and Netrebko! But you need to buy the commercial recording of her Manon, coupled with Gedda as Des Grieux and you will find THE benchmark Manon ever recorded! Rudel's orchestra is just superb and the whole created in this recording is unrivaled and unequaled.
Her voice is fantastic and this is the classiest goodbye ever!!
I deny to believe she will never sing again. She was radiant in all the splendor of the greatest. Her smile will stand in my mind and my heart for ever. Thanks Bubbles for your talent and your celestial voice!
I died... so good.
