I love the video and this is a lot of great advice for anyone shopping the secondary market. The "it was a gift" usually means they are covering themselves and I have seen it and heard it as well as every other trick in the book. Be especially careful if it is a piece you want more than life itself. Of course people can buy the receipt and box online and fake them. If the item is old and the box seems new or not for the era in question like a 2020 looking box with a 1970s piece, you know you are being had. I go with an overall 'gut feeling" but even that can be fooled if you want an item too much- like your dream piece. Still some people do save receipts for 25 years or much longer than that on luxury items. My husband has filed the receipt for every single piece of jewelry in my extensive collection of antique (especially Georgian&Edwardian), vintage, retro, new, fine, costume and designer like Chanel. I save the receipt even if it is from an antique dealer or an eBay seller. Provenance is important to many buyers and they want to know the story. Receipts are useful. Sometimes I save the original box too and some pieces are stored in their original box like my Mikimoto pearl bracelet and necklace set which are still in their original boxes. I have purchased pieces from people who gave me the original receipt on authentic pieces and sometimes the original box and even the both a few times. A few times I have received both with a watch(Concord and the other Rolex) and once with an engagement ring. Also I keep things like letters that pertain to the item. Like once I wrote Christies about a very pretty brass bed I owned and they wrote me a very nice letter explaining the piece and I kept it in an envelope attached the bottom of the bed frame. I always remember the story attached to any item I buy as well. I wrote to Mikimoto about a particular strand I purchased on the secondary market, and I saved that letter as well.

I love how you suggested to apply simply psychology to the process of authenticating something. Listening to the seller’s every word. If they say it was a gift, well, they know it’s fake.

It is a multi colored tweed dress that I have found what I think is the exact match from the CZcams video on the 2018 Paris show.
