In India or Philippines, just check and start walking. Traffic will stop without issues. Just jaywalking is the method. Scary to think but that's perfect way.

I am a Filipino who lives in another country now. I think it’s in our culture. When I was young it was in the 70’s, I remember that your dollar can buy at least 3x the value of either food, clothing or transportation (correct me if I’m slightly wrong). And so we regard people who have US dollars as rich people or at least “can afford”. Foreigners have dollars so we think foreigners are rich people. If this makes sense to you. ☺️
