Sometimes it helps to have it set un level, and let the saw cut for itself and let you toss scrap on the pile, you just have to be aware of what its doing
Thanks for the tip!
Free child labor. The best.
lol
Elijah is a strong lad and the perfect height for helping unload the truck.
He is now 13, and strong and good to work with, a capable helper for sure.
Go! God will bless!
Thank you for your encouragement!
Best of luck on your new farm.
Thank you Herb! Stay safe and keep all the Local Firefighter's Safe is my prayer for this season.
Keybword. Was. Miss you John.
"was" is right, thank you Herb!
That was quite the move from one side of the country to the other. I hope you like snow now that you live in Maine.
lol, yes, it was a mild year they tell us, I guess I will have to put up some snow storm videos when they come.
How much is this, and where do I buy it?
Bailey's - They don't list the prices, you have to call them, depending on the model you choose, they are about $12k -$20k but you will have to verify that with them. These mills are actually from Australia.
I bought the same one. The set up wouldn't have been possible without your video. I could sure use your helpers to start the rows.
Great to hear! Thanks for the comments!!!
Have you had the joy of connecting a line mid row when a spool of tape runs out. I'm building a 3 inch tube to run couplings through to stop this. First time I ever had it happen was this year and it will certainly be the last. Greenhouse tape works amazing for patching btw lol
We have not had that happen yet. I guess we need to keep a watchful eye on the spool, thanks for the heads up. P.S. our typical row is 200ft, our longest in the potato area is about 350ft +-
We have used electrical tape from harbor freight for patching, works pretty well, drips a bit sometimes, but its ok, it is drip tape after all, we just consider it an extra dripper, lol.
Thanks for the tip, I will look into Greenhouse tape.
Nice
Thanks, we really were pleased with the results of this new to us experimental way of planting our sweet corn.
❤️
Thanks for the encouragement!
Brilliant thinking...
It was the idea of a friend of mine, I try capture all these work around ideas in my mind as they spark future solutions to problems.
How about ventilation? Keeping things from molding in climates with 4 seasons?
We don't have that problem in North Eastern Washington, but I imagine it is a real problem in many areas.
I want to get one, but the price I'm seeing at my dealer is $10,000
Paid a little under $3000 for my 36" from berryhill drip
@@user-vt1oj2cp5w that's what I wanted. I only have 25hp. I was told it would probably still work. My soil is fluffy. I just didn't have the money to gamble. Berry Hill is awesome
@@user-vt1oj2cp5w I got their smaller plastic mulch layer
@@hdtvcamera1 I pulled it with my 48 8n like it was a toy lol. Biggest thing with the older tractors is sway control. It's an absolute must.
@@user-vt1oj2cp5w I replied while I was sleeping. Yes I bought the 36 inch from Berry Hill. Layne Arrington was my salesman. He's awesome. I wanted the layer that could lay 36 or 48, 2 drip tapes and had an option for a fertilizer hopper. It's late in the season and I'm waiting for dry fields. (Raining today) I had a huge project cleaning 1.5 acres of old trees for a fruit, nut, olive, grape orchard and a 30 x 50 garage. I cut down my cover crop last week. I got the "12 head exerything" speeder and a torch hole maker. I'm looking forward to getting crops planted. I wish I had my sons for helpers
very good love lucas mill too.
It really feels good to make lumber instead of just firewood out ones trees.
Good job little guy. Good to see your out there helping Dad and taking care of your property/farm. This made my day!
Thanks 👍 for the encouraging words!
Thats what im talking about. We need to teach our children hard work at a young age. You cant teach hard work in school and most of society. Keep up the great parenting from one father to another. We are losing are kids to social media videogames and obesity. Thats what the rest of the world thinks of Americans! TRUMP 2024
Yes, work is good for them, helps them develop a good character for sure!
Teach them young and teach them right. Congratulations. Your son may not grow up to be a wierdo.
That's the plan! Thanks for your comment.
That put a smile on my face. The little guy looked so proud as he was driving.
He loves driving the gator, the rides at Disneyland would be boring for him compared to doing real stuff on the farm.
❤
Thanks for the encouragement!
As a mill owner…THATS AWESOME!!! (For those who don’t know) The sharpeners are anywhere from 3-500 dollars a piece. Awesome video!
Thank you for your comment friend!
Thanks for your comment, how much weaker is it?
It sounds pleasant with the ding ding ding watched it several times 😅😅
It was a little work to make, but tried to give you a picture of how much money there was in this one large log. Thanks for the comment.
@@johnssawmill i have a dedicated slabber a month ago. Made my first $2800 after cutting 2 slabs. 😀
just bought the 10/30 Lucas. Yet to get cutting but getting organised now. Loved your vid but found the music a little loud for your speaking. Keep them coming. Many thanks
Noted! Thank you for your feed back and have fun with the mill, I am sure you will be pleased with it!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You have to know how to adjust and maintain a band mill to cut straight flat lumber. Most people do not. I've seen swingblade mills that couldn't cut hardwood logs because of stress in the log. I don't have any problems with my baker mill.
Cool, I have not heard of that mill.
Try to cut the horizontal first, that way, the weight of the board isn't bearing down on the blade, especially with larger dimensions.
Thank you for the tip.
Liked good start for lumber handling as well. Get right in there at correct time. Sweet Hi John Best David
Yes, he is a fast learner and eager worker, I am so glad to have a family with wonderful children.

Thanks, we figured that was the case, and tried to get him off the road so he didn't get run over by someone going to fast to see him.
Are you up by Colville? We have land near Addy, and a Lucas mill👍
Yes, which model do you have?
Corn has no nutritional value and it costs so much to grow it. Plus it's 95% GMO
Ours is not GMO.
Beware or at least be cautious with WILD BEAVER heck for that matter all BEAVER!!!
Lol, yes we need to be careful with all creatures. Beavers are the least of the challenges in these parts.
Just stumbled upon your channel and gave you a subscribe... I like the idea for planting the potatoes in that manner
Awesome! Thank you! I post a video when we harvest them. I have snitched a couple, they are looking good, but still growing so I am going to let them stay in the ground as long as possible.
John are still working that job where we first met? My dill Atlantic giant pumpkins up on Mt didn't grow much as it's recommended not to allow the pumpkin to start less than 5 to 6 ft from stalk it's gotten cool and leaves are not growing big enough for great photosynthesis are blueberries all picked and gone now? Have reached out to first person I was in office with no returned calls are they shinning me on? Enjoy the fall best to you sir.
Dave, I am not work there anymore, as of last Friday. Yes things are getting cool at nights, and I imagine on your mountain your plants even feel it more. Blueberries are all gone, delivering last order today. Regarding shunning, probably not, I have heard others say that she does not return phone calls. Don't take it personal, it is not your fault.
@@johnssawmill thank you John Really appreciate you my brother Best David Alas little round fruit super food I'm sure a gift from God Man the make me feel great when I eat them ; More blueberries please !

I would wager a guess there are much less chemicals on and in those vegetables than the ones I buy at the store.
There are no chemicals / sprays whatsoever.

Our children like to play whatever their Dad does, today it is fighting imaginary fires. If you like this video you might also like this one: czcams.com/users/shortsytJ2guCTw0g
John take a look @ arms family homestead channel go to > playlist >controlled burns ; see techniques for fire-brakes the man Daniel Arms has good things he does to stop fires from jumping once you have done that then you don't have long edge just blowing pump water on hot spots it's an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure I see he also blows out fires with a leaf blower go to individual I looked through all of those I think it is 1st or 2nd from bottom fast forward where he's cutting grass low with brush hog then that multi tine ¿ground harrow? Not sure of name he draga 4 or 5 laps where it's down to dirt maybe water that then if you ignite with an ember it's firehouse only a spot fire hot spot & not a wall of fire not so much. You'll need like 5000 gallons of really high volume pump blowing it out on a fire.
Yes, we have a larger pump out of our 900 Water Trough, 2 x 450 gallon tanks, a 1500gal, and a 2500gal. Plus two wells, pond, and creek. The problem is power, so we have generators right now, and some gas powered pumps, but need to get our utility power with a switch and connected to a generator. That will keep all our sources of water going when the power gets cut, which it most often does.
If you have it run a brush hog and cut down to ground drag harrow around the dirt John I'm praying Tuesday that the storm coming up , perhaps that hurricane out of pacific that's been hitting California and flooding it I hope it dumps a great amount of very much needed water on the land and forest of north eastern Washington and up into Canada God bless the rains upon us. God brings the rains upon the righteous Blessings David
Thank you David, also for the great ideas!
I’m so sorry you guy’s have to deal with that, may god bless you and your family and keep y’all safe and free from harm and may he bless everything he has blessed you with ❤
Thank you for your prayers Gary!
Great prep!
Thank you!
Slowest part is the drying
For sure, but most people use Douglass Fir green, as they don't want to wait for the drying and they don't shrink much and don't warp once nailed in place. Thanks for your comments!
I want to adopt them 😀 😂
lol, thanks, they are good boys and getting better every year!
