Welcome to WITNESS TITANIC, a new podcast where we interview witnesses of the infamous Titanic disaster including modern experts, enthusiasts and even the survivors of the sinking. Like the century-old inquiries that came before us, we may never fully determine what really happened on that cold April night but you may be surprised to find how close our efforts will bring us to Titanic herself...

OMG it's MY friend Mike Brady, from Oceanliner Designs!
Wonderful titantic info thanks.
Appreciate the effort and my opinion of Bruce has been changed. I feel bad for the guy now.
I’m SOOOOO happy you’re familiar with Titanic the Musical!!! I’ve been contemplating commenting and recommending you to check it out. It’s one of my favorites and SO underrated
Ismay and Smith were callous and reckless with the lives of the people on the Titanic. They did the equivalent of following the road speed limit during a whiteout snowstorm, ignoring the warnings from other ships that conditions were unusually bad.
You'd do well to listen to the two prior episodes of this podcast/inquiry.
😊
😊
😊
Just typical despot behavior...
Ismay was not in command of the ship, and there's no evidence at all he forced himself onto the lifeboat at the expense of other people
Alright let’s strap in guys, we have 25,000 questions to get through
Didn't the survivors go to Nova Scotia first. The Carpathia took them to Halifax. You honor and glory people are just theorists as well.
No. Survivors went to NYC. You may be confusing them with the recovered bodies which DID go to Halifax.
This song is " Autumn " a different song
The song I use as my theme is from the White Star song book. When survivors say "Autumn" they were likely referring to this piece. But there are other less likely "Autumn"s that may have been played.
I enjoyed listening to this and the earlier two James.
Thanks Steve! I would love to have you join as a "witness" very soon if you are available!
@@WitnessTitanic You have a good style; a good communicator. Bruce did nothing wrong. I would have got into the lifeboat myself. I don't think he asked Smith or Bell to push the ships speed. He was one Olympic's maiden voyage. Has anyone uncovered what he said to the same during that voyage. How fast could Titanic have gone ? At a push, 23 knots.
@@SteveHall.Author Thats a great point about Olympic's maiden voyage. Worth mentioning on a future episode...
I am baffled why James C didn’t ride the success of “Titanic” and make a movie about these senate hearings. And the British inquiry too. That would be a great movie.
That sequel should begin with the breathtaking race of the Carpathia to reach the Titanic sinking site. It's actually not too late for him to do it...
Yes, I think it's a fantastic point you make that life - far from being anything remotely like life - in Ireland and also over here in England, was really no more than existence for most people in those times. It's why we in the UK are so protective of our universal healthcare; we have all had relatives, who were alive when we knew them and asked them questions, who had either lived in those conditions, or remembered those who had. Their parents' generation. It's why we frown upon those who bleat about being 'poor' - for the vast majority of us even now, if you have a roof over your head and food on your table, you already have everything you will ever need.
I think it's a good thing to rehabilitate Ismay. Individuals like me who have already made a serious mistake in their lives will understand (fortunately in my case, there were no serious consequences). We are human, and the instinct for survival exists! I know very little about Ismay's life after the Titanic tragedy: I know that he lost his post as president, that he withdrew from public life and that he committed himself to good works. The most critical will say that it was just another way of clearing their conscience... but I agree with you in the idea that his place in a boat provided valuable testimony: if he had lost his life, his actions in favor of poor people during the rest of his life would never have been accomplished. Finally, to conclude, his discretion in my opinion that he carried a heavy burden and that he had certainly lost a great joy of life. Universal forgiveness takes on its full meaning here.
Is it toxic masculinity that men chose to forego getting into a lifeboat? Or was it because the self sacrificial attitude that men had at the time was exactly what led to there not being a mass panic or violent chaos erupting amongst passengers as seen in other shipwrecks. It’s because most men did NOT have the attitude you expressed of wanting to get into the first lifeboat they could that those who were saved were able to do so in a relatively calm and dignified manner.
But Toxic masculinity and self sacrificial attitude WERE around at other shipwrecks of the time and so were panics, rapes, and mutiny
Love it!
I’ve been reading over the inquiry online and so this is really nice to have you doing this along side what I read
Love these! Wish they came faster! ❤
Keep these up, they're great Piece of advice though, you might want to put inquiry or something in the title, it's only a trick of the algorithm that I found these at all
Great idea for Titanic podcasts James. From where is this great avatar picture for Witness Titanic??
Well said, excellent point.
This is very thought provoking - love the way you juxtapositioned world events that lead up to the conception of the Olympic Class ships of the WSL. I would love to see you tackle 2 of the biggest controversies through testimony & get your thoughts on 1) did an officer shoot passengers before the final plunge and commit suicide and 2) the breakup of the Titanic.... Excellent content, now on to episode 2 😎 kudos!
We will 100% get into these topics!
@@WitnessTitanic I look forward to it.... Your project is going to turn out epic 😎
Awesome podcast James. I look forward to seeing more content. Keep up the good work!
So excited for this unique way to share information about the titanic!
The most shocking piece of information is probably that the U.S. Senate reacted as quickly as the next day.😂
