I was so disappointed - I went to a fiber festival and wanted to support a local business who handmade wool wash bars. I enjoy some essential oils, and assumed all her bars were scented with them (she had no unscented versions). I got one I liked, but when I got home I learned that it was scented with fragrance. I’m so hesitant to use it because I know how much that will linger. I know it’s nothing compared to what you have to deal with, but all this is to say it’s amazing how even the “natural” things seem to sneak in the bad stuff. Thanks for helping make us all more aware!

Get a letter from your doctor for a reasonable accommodation, you would be in the ADA guidelines. Get a RESPRO mask with chemical filters, they're expensive but they work really well. They work better than my full face respirator with special filters. I have to wear my RESPRO to my doctor's office as they use plug ins, they also unplug them minutes before my appointment and then roll their eyes and do their kick down thing. I was called and filled out a form online and got excused in advance.

Wow, i'm so sorry they put you through such a nightmare! That's unacceptable that there were so many barriers put in place for you, and that they couldn't accept the original letter from 2013. I just did jury duty last month, and I think if worse had come to worst, during selection in the court i was in, there was an option to stand with your number raised if you felt you could not complete your duties as a juror, and then later you would be called back to discuss your reasons with the judge and the lawyers for the case. You would be able to explain your limitations, and it's likely you would not be selected for the trial. BUT that's at my court, which also made getting an exemption much, much simpler than this, since I had to help my parents get theirs. And obviously even that one day of selection (especially in a crowded place with a long wait) would have been detrimental to you.

When you were sewing on the Kenmore, the clacking was telling me that there might be a misaligned part. Also, whenever I've had a problem with the thread bunching and knotting like that, I unthread the machine and rethread it. And that includes the bobbin. Sometimes that will fix the problem, and sometimes it won't. It could be something as simple as not getting the thread between the tension disks. Honestly, if you're really giving up on it, I'd love to have it. Though I wouldn't have any way to get it to me. Plus the shipping would be horrendous. I just hate to see you struggle with getting it to work right. Lara @Twinsnneedles LLC just put out a video you may want to check out. In it she talks about threads and troubleshooting tension issues. Just a thought.

Sadly, the second time I used this I noticed much more smell during the application process. Still comparatively low-scent and dries to no smell. I may be able to continue using it if I am careful.

Thanks for the link! That's a good price on that mask. I always use organic vapor filters with any mask (except my respro) they pretty much filter everything. I still keep my full face respirator available, just in case I need to participate in some activity that is people dense- such as a shelter in hurricane season. I keep little boots for the exhale points to filter what I exhale too. This way it's covid compliant in those situations.

I don't have MCS, but there are certain smells that effect me. I used to smoke, but after I quit I became more sensitive to smoke of any kind. Tobacco smoke and wood smoke are the worst. It feels like my throat closes up. I hate the smell of gasoline and, back before menopause, when I was having my period, the smell would be worse and make me nauseated. We always use unscented laundry products because one of our family members has asthma and it can trigger a reaction. They, too, can't be around smoke. So our household is very aware of how certain smells can effect the body. I hope you find better filtration for your mask.

It's not the fragrance, it's the chemical gas that it's bound to which binds with proteins in your blood during the gas exchange in breathing. I use an ozone generator and bag things with the ozone and then clean stuff. Please put the mask link you purchased in your video description.

I got a Respro mask with chemical filter replacement filter. It's 90% as good as a full face respirator. The whole avoidance routine is key. Waiting rooms are a nightmare, telehealth is the only thing I will participate in. One provider will soon be replaced as they want to go back to office visits. They advised me to bring an epi-pen, inhaler, etc and just deal with it. No way.
