Racing the carbon WAW velomobile
Thanks to www.fietser.be
Fietser is the Ghent velomobile dealership that provided me with the WAW for this video.
A bit of extra info I forgot to mention:
The weight of this WAW with everything included (seat padding, battery for lights, etc.) is 27,8kg. Add 1kg for the racing hood and the grand total is 28,8kg.
My racing speed on this track was about 47km/h, dropping to about 44km/h for the last 15 minutes of the hour race. The official race results measure from the inside track, so a lot lower. When testing a few days earlier on a long straight road along the river I can keep up 50km/h.
ps: I think my rear tire was losing pressure, which is probably why I lost 2nd place. it was completely flat when I checked it for the first time the day after.
Also, some info in the official race results are not correct. The 2nd place holder only had one lap on me. He was riding the white DF you see me drafting for about 20 minutes while we were battling for second place.

Korte samenvatting van mijn velomobielvakantie naar Dronten. Ik bezocht velomobiel.nl en intercitybike.nl en reed mee in de Elfwegentocht.
Just the information about improving the Turing ratios with tire sizes.
Fascinating! When is the next edition happening?
Thank you for your wonderful videos. I am American Velonaut of going on 14 years. I can't imagine life without a Velomobile.

ik zie mijn fiets ook nog voorbij komen maar zelf was ik er niet bij.
How do you like the light whip? Do you f8nd it an effective safety device?

Hold on… there is an option to rent a Velomobil?
Where do you bought the led light at the hood ? Which parts do you use ?
Oh....I forgot, yeah the rear of the Quatrovelo does look like a cat. But, it makes me think of the Chessier Cat from Allis in Wonderland.
I understand where, you're coming from in regards to how the front looks like an owl....I was speaking with someone from the U.K. since I will have a Quattrovelo soon. He and I, both being train fanatics....think that it looks very close to the front of the very classic speed trains.
I have a trike Azub Tricon I don't need one more wheel. I really don't understand the philosophy of Quatrovelo.
I think about a velomobile not too heavy like a Leiba Record (6500€) but I like very much my Azub Tricon 20.
Wow, this was right before covid. Life was different back then 😂
Super
Hi Jan I love your LED lightstick on the top, would love to see it in the dark.. By the way, do you think the QV could carry a Brompton folding bike in the back ? It is about 65 x 60 x 25 cm ??
About the Brompton folding bike: no chance!
Did you build the light staff yourself or is this available somewhere for purchase?
Gezellig!!!
I'd love to buy one but I spend my life working from home, and I haven't really got anywhere to go.
Go outside and explore!!!
Co2 are not breathing while you ride? Like electric cars bring actually coal fired. Or the Paris accords not including China and India.
If only I was 40 years younger. Dammit!
👍🏻✌🏻
Thank you kindly for sharing that excellent fellow velonaut perspective with us! Well done!
I wish velomobiles were popularized in places like China and India. Hopefully that would get them in mass production and lower the price.
What is the cw of this VM? Is it buyable? - if so, where and @ what price??
Like Saukki said, the CC was a bit weird. Bring Afrikaans though, I can understand a lot of the Flemish. Ek wonder of Jan my Afrikaans kan verstaan? Ek sal baie graag my die velomobiel wil hê.
Nice video with all the ins and outs. I wish they were easier to get in the USA as I am tired of being cold in the winter : (
Bicycle Evolution in Plano Texas
I ride an alleweder A2. I disagree that your quatrovelo is less fast then other velomobiles...
I wonder how it compares to the quest in resistance. Currently not driving my quest though, since the visor of my hood is broken :-(. I am also wondering if electric assist is possible in the Netherlands. I used to drive with my quest in the city off-bike-lane in Amsterdam, as it is much safer to be in front of a car, instead of taking them over on the right side. But 3 traffic lights in a row while the cars behind you are pushing you to accelerate like a car: very very slowly to 30 and then fast to 50, while a velomobile is 30 before you are at the end of the crossing, then slow to 40 and then very slowly to 50. And yeah, I don't like the kettwiesel, if you are used to doing 0 to over 30km/h before you are at the other side of the road, a kettwiesel will surprise you: You will go from 0 to 90 degrees, on your back, with the nose pointing upwards. It's really hard to ride a kettwiesel if you are used to bikes with the center of mass being at a normal place instead of just in front and above of the back wheels.
Perhaps you could go faster if you had used some ceramic couting on your WAW. Racing is in the detail.
Gut.
They get better, and better. As more people buy them, the price will come down, too.
They've been around for 40 years.. how long do we have to wait?
@@TC-yx1qt "As more people buy them, the price will come down, too." I apologize for not being more clear. "More people" means millions of people. My bad.
How much ground space is there between the area where the horn sits and the ground?
about electric assist, bc law limits power and top speed, so most of the time, it doesnt affect the performance of a velomobiles beside during acceleration from a complete stop or going uphills
I think people adding electric assist to a velomobile are really missing the boat. The key is to use your gears and don't try to kill yourself by going as fast as possible up hills. When you are on a hill, try to go as slow as possible, not as fast as possible and look around and enjoy the scenery, as if you had almost stopped for a break. The three wheels allow for going super slow up hills, so take advantage of it.
Great review! It helps a lot! thank you very much! I ordered a QV. Now is time to choose options , wait and save money
You might think about a Rolhoff hub, 14 gears, I have Shimano 11 speed cassette with slum mountain drive, sorry missed spelled the mountain drive. I like it, but don’t like the four gears different, when changing gears I Offen lose my momentum end up crawling up a short uphill when if I could of speed shifted I would of been able to run over the hill or upgrade. I have the Rolhoff on my trike. You can select any gear even if stopped. But then I’m only at 500 miles so far, I’m learning to pre select my gear. Just saying give the Rolhoff hub some thought.
@@APhotographerTravels2025JohnMc Hi thank you for your reply and your experience sharing. Since then, I bought the QV with Rolhoff. Turns out it is a nice but only if you put an electric assist such as a Bafang 750w. Without that, I have a lot of resistance and it is hard to go above 40km on flat. So the Rolhoff is nice but only with a powerful motor.
Een andere quattrovelo rijder was juist de man van de houten velomobiel aan het interviewen toen je passeerde czcams.com/video/NEL9vMKE0dI/video.html
Looks like a mail truck!
Super
Génial
Maybe it was the DFs driver who was faster than you and it has nothing to do with the VM? I think it is needful to compare both - men and mechanics ;)
Maybe :-) I dare to say I'm in good shape as I regularly do cycling races (upright bicycles though). But you're right, without power meters we can't know for sure.
Thanks!
No sound in right channel.
Really? Thanks for the heads up. I'm just using a regular phone and noob skills, but this is something I should look out for.
