I remember when I went in spring 2011, we had a mild winter with just one big snowstorm. There was no snow at the Kartause when we arrived. The spring semester used to start in the middle of January. So we ended up going to Poland during the third weekend of February. BTW, Sr Agnes Maria went to Austria as a student the semester before me (fall 2010…she was in TTM). Our first trip was Vienna, with Salzburg as a weekend trip the following weekend with an optional day trip to Munich. The Poland trip would be right before midterms, and Rome and Assisi would be after midterms. When the start of the Austria spring semester was changed to how it is today, they changed when Rome and Assisi and Poland would take place. The time that Rome and Assisi takes place is the time it normally would take place. But instead Poland would take place after midterms in the springtime (which is so much better than going in February…a friend of mine went to Austria the spring semester before me, and she said it was so cold in Poland that she got frostbite in her feet). So now you guys can now go to the March for Life first before going to Austria, which is something we couldn’t do. On the flip side, we could go back to campus after Austria for graduation. I originally had planned to go back to main campus to watch my grand big in Stella graduate. I couldn’t stay though because the hotels are usually booked during graduation (so make sure when graduation approaches, that you’ve made accommodations for your family to stay. Because the hotels book quickly. It might be even more so now, since three of the hotels that existed back then (St Junipero Serra, St Agnes, and the new one of Blessed Solanus Casey Hall…I was going to Franciscan when it was built as the Microtel). There was just one guy from AMDG in Austria my semester. We had mostly Disciples and TTM…Guardians were founded the following spring, and DOZ was reactivated two years later. We had six guys from the PDP there…two of them became priests and a few of them got married. There used to be a grad/non-trad PDP household called Electi Mariae that used to live in the Heights. They were eventually merged with Koinonia due to the small number of grad and non-traditional guys in the PDP, and they needed the space in the Heights for the undergrads. Anyway, I’m glad you had a great semester that semester…knowing what was going on that semester with the pandemic starting.
