Behringer Pro-800 Polychain (16 Voice Polyphony - A Simple Hardware Solution)
Yes. I love my Pro-800 so much that I couldn't resist getting another one... Why? Layering two different patches real time, stereo panning, and of course: 16 voice polyphony!

Behringer Pro VS Mini
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 9 měsíci
Since I have connected so well with the Pro-800, getting the Pro VS Mini was a no-brainer. (Not to mention the low price, portability, etc.) Today I managed to spend a couple of hours with it and the result is this little piece of music. So far I'm very impressed with this synth, it offers a lot to explore. I love the great sounding analog filter! More later, thank you for watching!

Hi, great patch set, I've just purchased. I bought the Pro-800 yesterday (June 2024) and immediately updated the firmware to the latest version which I believe is 1.4.6 does this Patch set still work with this new firmware update, and if so, could you recommend a guide of how to add them please. many thanks
Hi, thank you for your support! Yes, the patch collection is compatible with the latest 1.4.6 firmware. Just please install the older set (ver 1.2.7), not the 1.3.7 one. If you're on a Mac download Sysex Librarian, or use MIDI-OX on PC. These two apps are a bit different, but with both you basically have to set up the connection between the computer and the Pro-800 (MIDI or USB port) then choose the library syx file (the bulk one from my folder, if you want to dump them all at once) and with one click you can dump all the presets to the Pro-800. (If you need any further help let me know if you're on a Mac or PC, and what connection you use, 5-pin MIDI DIN or USB and we'll take it from there.) Good luck with the Pro-800, it's a fantastic piece of gear! Here's my video about patch transfer on the Mac: czcams.com/video/JiguwGFRtiY/video.html
Got it all working via the SYNTHTRIBE app on windows. In the end it was really simple. I could also see only backup bank A (so I guess in the original machine there’s only bank A full). All good. Thank you very much the patches are a great place for my kid to start. He’s really happy
@@OpticalChaos Glad you got it working in the end! It sounds like you transferred the - factory - patches from the synth to the computer, not the other way around. (My video demonstrates both ways: Synth to Mac and Mac to Synth.) Next time all you need to do is just drag & drop the patch library syx into the SysEx Librarian main window and then double click on the file in there. It will copy the patches (78 patches) into Bank C on the Pro-800. Anyway, happy to hear that the Synthtribe app finally works! :)
@@NorbertVarga it’s perfect, thanks again. I deleted the previous comments as they were irrelevant now that you can update easier via the SYNTHTRIBE app, so as not to confuse other users.
Turns out I had an RK-002 that I guess I purchased a while back for something else. Anyway, I found the POLYMUX DUY. Now I understand why I never used the cable. Looking at the documentation, I have no idea what to do to make this work. I understand the varioable names, it isn't clear to me how you change he the values to make it mux between just two MIDI channels for two instruments (e.g., Channels 1 & 2). I must be missing something, but where do you enter the values you want for the three defined variables? Now I know why I never usef the cable :)
The most simple solution is using a web browser that supports MIDI. (Google Chrome for example.) Connect the black end of the RK-002 to your MIDI interface’s OUT, and the orange end to IN, this way you can program the RK-002. Open duy.retrokits.com (in the midi-supported browser) and on the top of the page you should be able to see your RK-002 connection, and set its parameters. In the Polymux firmware you only need to change the FIRSTFREE parameter to 0 (round-robin) and you’re all set. The good thing is that you only have to do this setup once, then it’s “plug and play”. Hope I helped, keep me posted! ✌️
Great video! After reading your answer concerning the MicroFreak, below. I was wondering what your thoughts were on implementing the following setup... I have two Pro-800s mounted in a rack under my main synth stand. Currently, I'm using them the way Dan Fisher did in his Sweetwater video. I'd much prefer to use them the way you demonstrate. All of the MIDI signals going to every synth/effect in my setup is currently controlled by a couple of iConnectivity mioXLs interfaced with the computer/DAW using RTP (Ethernet MIDI). Currently, one standard MIDI cable goes from a DIN OUT of one of the mioXLs to a x2-THRU box and then on to each MIDI IN on the Pro-800s. If I substituted the RK-002 for the MIDI cable coming off the mioXL, eliminated the THRU box, and wired the two PRO-800s with a standard MIDI cable as you have, will this work? The logic that says "MIDI is MIDI" suggests that it should, but can you foresee any reasons why it wouldn't. Also, if anybody besides Norbert has any ideas concerning this, I'd love to hear your input as well! Moss
Thank you Moss! Although I have no way to test, I think you’re right, this setup should work.
Great video, playing and tool by retrokits! Thanks for sharing this!
So wait…I was under the impression that you could do this right out of the box with two Pro800s…I thought they had some kind of midi chain switch no?
No, that’s not the case with the Pro-800.
great music!!
Great patches🖤🔊✨John carpenter has always been a huge source of inspiration. I bought this when it came out but had so many problems I returned it. Your vid has me wanting to revisit one or just get a pro 600.
Waiting for purist to say that the triangle is too dark and "unpleasant"
Can its features be used with any synth? And can you use it with one Pro-800 left channel and one right, so it’s still 8 voices but stereo, while retaining the transfer of CC messages to the 2nd Pro-800?
@jeffc1753 Yes it's a standard midi processor, you can use it with any synth. And even edit the firmware or make your own. And yes you can use 2 Pro-800s that way but for that you don't need the RK-002. Just a normal midi cable into one of them and another one connecting the two.
@@NorbertVarga Thanks
What about creative fuck is going on?! Regardless of the answer, I love this.
Slow down dummy
Sorry. Doesn't work for me. Pro 800 says presets dumped but on SysEx nothing happens. I know this app and use it with lots of other synths. Same thing with updating firmware. Synthtribe says that Cloud under maintenance. This has been going for weeks and months I've heard from others. So my conclusion is that.. My first and last synth from behringer. It's not really big deal copying ideas from great Synthesizer companies and put them into smaller boxes under behringer name. Wanna synths for masses be my guest so everyone can afford smaller copy of some classic synths but in the same time I feel like some great era just ended.
This was really helpful. Thank you. It's also possible to import/export patches via the Synthtribe software, which I didn't realize until this week.
This is a beautiful patch set! Very lovely playing as well.
"Say hello to my leetle fren' !!!" @5:18. Well done !!!
Is this specific to Pro-800s, or could I do the same with two Microfreaks?
It’s standard midi processing, so you should be able to use it with any synth as long as they have MIDI in and out/thru and you can set the midi transmit/receive channels. I’ll check my Microfreak when I have some time. Only have one, but that’s enough to test.
great! is it possible to tweak parameters on one synth and not affect other? for example, I want to tweak filter cutoff and osc pitch a little bit, to have wider stereo field. is it possible with current configuration? thanx!
Yes, in this configuration everything you do on the synth on the left will affect the synth on the right, but whatever you tweak on the right one will not affect the left one. ✌️
Update from Behringer regarding the PC send issue: “Please be informed that this is being worked on and will be solved in the next firmware update.”
Well, considering what’s going on in New-York now, wait a couple of years and Escape from New-York will be no longer be considered science fiction, it will be the first premonitory documentary.
For free!!? Bro you rock!! 🙏 Edit: $15 lol but worth every penny
Thank you for the kind words! These patches are free, the complete library costs $15. Glad you like it! ✌️
Wow✨🔸💙🔸✨
Lovely work on this Norbert !
0:20 sounds like a piano. Amazing
Excellent work. They sound great together, especially with your playing skills.
I'm surprised it isn't possible to polychain 2 Pro-800 like you can with, say 2 Pro- 1's, by default. Maybe they'll add it in an update, if possible. Or?
My guess is Behringer wasn’t counting on many people buying two Pro-800’s, otherwise polychain would have been implemented. It’s more cost effective to add as few bells and whistles as necessary.
I hope they will add polychain in the future. For a start I'll be happy if they just fix the Program Change send issue... 😄
I think they wanted to sell UB-Xa which was almost ready when Pro-800 was released.
🎉Nice 👍
Nice! This is how I use my two Pro-800s too.
glad musicians like santana gave him his props. szabo is such an amazing guitarist, and I wish i found his work a little earlier. Heard his album Dreams about a year or two ago
What would have been cool is have the title "Why Stranger Things Only Works on a Real Prophet" and then at the end stop the video and on screen reads "Or a Behringer Pro 800...Gotcha!"
What song was he playing at the beginning

Vivid memories nostalgia great imagination Well Done
love ur worrk . download ur patch but C1 patch seem wont ARP , can u help e ?
Thank you! I actually used the sequencer in the demo, not the arpeggiator. Unfortunately there's no way you can save sequences with the patch on the Pro-800, but you can easily make a sequence, it's just the notes of a CMaj7 chord up and down: C-E-G-B-C'-B-G-E.
Two incredible guitarists. Amazing Santana recognized Gabor
One of the best synth soundtracks of all times, and a perfect rendering of it by you! Just ordered the Pro 800 and will be playing this on it a LOT for sure... 😄
Thank you for the kind words! I've just ordered a second one today! Can't have enough! 😄
Man that sounds fantastic. Great tune too. I just ordered a pro 800 after only using soft synths and am really excited so searching up as many demos as I can find. Hearing you produce actual music with it is definitely one of the more useful ones.
Thank you for the kind words! I think the Pro-800 is a great choice for a first - or even only - hardware synth, awesome sound and very intuitive layout. I love soft synths, they have become truly amazing over the years, but I think real analog synths have an organic feel that still has an edge over software. And it's mind-boggling how affordable analog synths have become, to me it's a dream I didn't even dare to dream as a teenager in the late 80s / early 90s. Enjoy the Pro-800, let me know how you get on!
Mine arrived yesterday, so that's why I'm here! Got the CRAVE (first ever synth hardware) 10 days ago and quickly fell in love, but I wanted polyphony after getting my feet wet with the CRAVE, so here we are. I've been having a blast all day, exploring what I can do with the two together (+ Ableton 12). Till now, I, too, have only used soft synths, so I completely understand your being geeked! Have fun!!!
Yes
Exquisite. How many Pro 800s do I need to buy to pull this whole thing off (fnarr) live?
Thank you! Well you would need 26 to do the exact same layering... 😄 But realistically it could be done very nicely with about 4 of them.
Such an iconic sounding synth. Thanks for this little piece of ear candy.
Pro 800 sounds great, but i must notice its no match with synth they said it was cloned. Lack of bodiment and fullness. Most of sounds seems tiny in the mix, other then that sounds amazingly organic and natural, love it.
More detune and a little slow pitch LFO. Also increase the amount of glide in the last note.
These are really great, Norbert. Just bought the pack. Thanks. 👍
Thank you for the kind words, and for your support! Enjoy!
Can we make software patches on Mac and transfer them to Behringer Pro-800?
Yes, but this method is only for transferring patches between the synth and computer. If you're after a patch editor software there are several easy-to-find solutions now, however I don't have experience with those. I usually create patches on the synth itself. ✌
I need to listen a more advanced version of that.
Superb sounds! Classic 80s on spot
The original Nat King Cole trio was very popular in Hungary in the forties and early fifties.Gabor Szabo,Lajos Kabok and Menyhert Toth formed a trio just like it and played in a place called Paradiso.I heard them there many times.Aftere the failed Hungarian revolution Szabo and Kabok came to the US and Toth vent to Sweden. The rest is history. They were great and we kids loved them.-Menyus -
I have to get one after the weekend
I did get one. I haven't done much with it yet
Been nice to hear some longer songs. Are all the sounds from the pro vs mini?
Thank you! Yes, it's all the Pro VS Mini, with some reverb here and there. (I think I used the free Valhalla Supermassive for this one.)
