    This bandsaw is on my list of considerations. You mention that alternating between low and high positions for the fence is cumbersome/time consuming. Is there another bandsaw in a similar price range who's fence is superior?

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 19 dny

      Thanks for the question. I would probably suggest, if looking for a more robust fence system, to look at something aftermarket. I think you’d be hard pressed to find this quality of a saw in its price range. The stock fence does a great job, I just found it laborious to adjust at any frequency.

    Listen brother, worries over long form are not such an issue for the craftsman type channels. Most people tuning in are looking for good in depth content and most of these topics can't be covered in any meaningful way in short term sound bite type videos. There's a place for that as a quick tip series or a quick cool tool type series but for some things you just need the long form and viewers looking for this are going to expect that. As far as suggestions for your videos there are a couple of points. The intro is just way too long. The intro video should be more than ten or fifteen seconds max. The little like, comment, subscribe flyout is fine but you should dump the sound effects if you plan on talking in the video while it's going on. Whatever you say when those sound effects play gets lost. That all said I want to thank you for these videos. I stumbled on I think the router table install video this morning and from there found the whole series. I am going to pull the trigger on my Harvey workstation set up in the next week or two and finding information on assembly and problems and what not is still really hard to find on these saws. So thank you very much. You've done a fabulous job. Your setup is almost the same as what I had settled on but I still had questions that your videos have answered. I think the only two differences are that I have opted to not get the sliding table and I am getting the upgraded add-on over arm dust collector.

    Also, just set up my new Alpha Bandsaw and 3HP BigEye table saw. Excellent fit and finish. Top quality tools. I agree with you about the bandsaw throat plate locking mechanism and the fence, but I'm not sure the throat plate even needs to be locked down and I'll likely use a single-point fence for most of my cuts. Thanks for the video.

      I’m sure you’ll enjoy both saws. As for the bandsaw throat plate; I’d be concerned that not securing it and running any rough sawn stock might pull it out and brake a blade.

      Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed them! The different letter designations are for different options on the saw. The G is a new option for the Big-Eye rip fence system vs a traditional one. The other option is a Tin Coated table vs standard cast iron. Any of the systems are fantastic. It really boils down to your needs and budget. Give them a call and ask any questions you have! Hello and thanks for the series. I recently purchased a Harvey TS (4hp and 52" rip capacity) and it's on the way. I'm looking at the options for a mobile base and am trying to decide between the Bora and a few others. One issue that I have found is that due to the increased depth of the Harvey TS over other standard saws is that the legs on the right hand side may be too wide for the platform/tray on the T extention of the mobile base. Can you tell me how far apart (outside to outside) the legs on the extension wing are? And does the distance differ between the router table and the phenolic top that comes with the saw? Were there any other bases that you considered? I'm looking at a few options from Grizzly and Shop Fox. I'm not sure if I want to deal with some of the issues that seem to exist with the Bora, but I also don't know if there are really any better options out there. Thanks again for the series! It's been very helpful as I prepare to go through a similar setup process.

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 6 měsíci

      Welcome and thanks for the questions. The width of the RT-800 router table legs are approximately 22 1/4” outside to outside. As far as the width on the legs for the phenolic top, I’m not certain bit if not the same width, they would be narrower. The Bora T-extension could support legs that are even 5” wider than that. I didn’t really shop too much for other bases. I liked the construction and low profile of the Bora. My only complaint would be the hard composite wheels. I’m glad the series helped. That’s why I made it!

  • @robertknowles3677

    I have the 4hp woth the same router top rt-800 and the same bora mobile base and extension. I have been having nothing but problems trying to move it around in the shop. I have been working with Bora but figured I would ask about your setup. Are you having any issues moving the table around? I have a very good garage floor. Like most garages there is a slight pitch from the back of the garage going toward the garage doors. That pitch would only be an issue if I position the table sale vertical. However, my saw is positioned parallel to my garage. So when I try to roll it the rubber foot lever part on the router side rubs against the floor. I have tried several areas of the garage but same issue for the most part. They sent me new wheels as well. I actually don't like where the put the foot lever right in the middle where I need to stand. ANyway, Bora gave me new wheels for the mobile base as well as for the extension side. The newer wheels are a bit lower in profile so that made my situation even worse. I will be replying to their email to let them know I still have an issue. Reason I am contacting you is because it looks like you have the same saw and definitely same extension. Now the saw I bought came with two black phenolic tops. One of them does not get installed to make room for the rt-800. I see you did not install the black tops and decided to opt for a cast iron top. What is the total length of your table now from the left wing all the way to the end of the rt-800? I see that with the weight of the rt-800 it seems to push down the extension bracket and makes it touch the floor. I am thinking due to the weight. I have even taken the bolt off the floor lever so the screw with the rubber on it can screw up into the foot lever a both more.

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks for the questions! As far as issues moving the saw around on the base, yes, moving it around is very difficult because the wheels do not rotate properly, so the hard composite wheels just skid across the floor. However, I have not yet changed out my wheels for the replacements they sent me either. That’s on my to-do list. The wheels they sent me as replacements, at first glance, look identical to the originals. So, unless there is a mechanical issue with the originals, I am not confident the new ones will behave any differently. (In my initial opinion, it’s more of an issue with the wheel composite than a mechanical issue; we’ll see.) For the router side foot rubbing: Initially I had that issue as well. What fixed that for me is using the vertical “play” in the T-mount beam that connects it to the saw base. I found that adjusting that essentially lifted the foot further from the floor. And for the lever on the T-mount, I think they should have done two and, on the inside, rather than the outside. My saw also came with two phenolic tops; I replaced the smaller top with the optional cast-iron wing and the larger phenolic top with the RT-800 table. From the left wing (not including the ST-1500 sliding table) to the outside of the RT-800 is around 82 1/8 inches on my setup. The weight of the RT-800 doesn’t help the T-mount “flexing” issue at all. However, with Bora’s base rating of 1500 lbs. and my complete setup being somewhere in the ballpark of 800-900lbs, it wasn’t supposed to be an issue at all. I have yet to deep-dive those concerns. I do plan to do, in the somewhat near future, a video on as many measurements and specifications on my setup as I can put my hands on. So, if that interests you (or anyone else), do let me know!

    • @robertknowles3677
      @robertknowles3677 Před 7 měsíci

      What exactly is the T mount beam? I would be interested in your findings as well. For what it’s worth while working with Bora/Affinity, I explained all my issues and the seemingly rocky end where the router too is. I too said that the foot lever is in a bad spot when standing in front of router and it would have been better to have two foot levers one on each side of the extension . They sent me two that I did not install yet. Waiting to resolve the lever touching first.

    • @outlandwoodworks

    • @robertknowles3677
      @robertknowles3677 Před 7 měsíci

      @@outlandwoodworks Ok then you must mean the rails then because that is the only other thing that extends from the base to the router side. So the back and front rails. Maybe I have the far right hand side where the router top is installed, set a bit too low. Even though the entire table saw tops and router (rt-800) top are all lined up real nice next to each other.

Half the cost of the Magswitch and 30lbs stronger and taller so I can use it for other purposes. I am trying to setup a 1 x 4" x 3/4" thick poplar and install the magnetpro into the board. I have the exact same setup excluding Harvey router fence. Wixey digital, sliding table, steel miter table, 4hp dovetail 36" saw, Jess-em stock guides, Bora base router dust box. Also took the Harvey "Shark" over table dust collection off. It blocked too much of router table and wasn't mobile. Get an extra red knob for the slider's miter to allow FIRMLY locking down the fence position. The detents just can't hold position when you're cross cutting long (6'+) Lumber. You can borrow the one from the stock miter gauge, but order the longer one from the ST1500 to get its greater thread length! Also bought an AH-3T clamp for the track, and liked it so much i also ordered an AH-3 (is longer) clamp with an extra T-block so it will work in the ST-1500's Tslots. Unfortunately Harvey forgot to include that T-block so it's in my Paulk Bench outfeed table. I really envy the size of your shop! I'm very new to this woodworking game, but have been happy with most Harvey items. The Tablesaw fence, bandsaw and everything but the ST-1500's fence has retained square for months. The Xtra red knob resolved that issue.

Ask Vincent or others in suppress about replacement parts. The band saws have two fence heights. The taller one really improves stability when resawing.

    When I installed mine I shifted the rail to the right by one bolt hole. The ST-1500lined up with it just perfect. However, the only viable mounting options for the switch was where the sliding table was so it's a bit of a pain to start it when the table is pulled back.

    • @BravoCoWoodForge
      @BravoCoWoodForge Před 7 měsíci

      @@outlandwoodworks I don't have the means to verify the actual cfm at the port but I'm only running a 650 cfm Dust Rite unit. I've tried the shortest possible run, runs with and without the separator involved and both the saw and my router table with a shop made dust box get good suction on the 4" side but the reduced side drops to almost nonexistent. Oddly the drop in felt suction on the 4" side when split is not really noticeable. For the time being I am going to run my 2.5 in lines off a separate shop vac.

      I ask because (I think on my dust collection video in this series) I called and asked Harvey to comment on their dust collection for the table saws. What they told me is that the most common issue they have found with "poor" dust collection performance on the table saws was customers having to low of CFM to the machine. I also mention it because I'm not confident the Shark will do any better for dust for you without first looking at a higher CFM dust collection solution. But, just my thoughts.

    I have the 36 inch version but I purchased the cast iron ext wing to make it a 52, my reasons for this purchase was the price and what you get. other manufactures have their flaws also, so it is a preference I see others much higher price less features and same issues. 1. I wish they included a second clamping knob for the ST1500 I purchased one due to the fence moving and I think they could improve the mounting of the fence on the sliding table, the play in the slot to the fence doesn't allow for removal and replace without adjusting for square.

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 7 měsíci

      I didn't notice enough play in the slots to cause a squaring issues when re-mounting. I'll have to inspect that.

    The fact Harvey didn't drill those three holes indicates they do not expect many people to buy the slider...or it's similar to many details on this saw (which I also have) which are unrefined. I have a list of maybe 5-10 things that jumped out at me immediately as I started using the saw. It's clear their engineers had very little, if any "use case" trials. Don't get me wrong, I like this saw. But it takes a bit of thought & work to get it tuned up for smooth workflow.

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 7 měsíci

      My thought was that they didn't expect many to install the ST-1500 so far to the left. That, and/or installing it without the left wing worked more efficiently in the existing manufacturing of the table saw (keeping costs down). But perhaps this is our opportunity to suggest that they start adding those mounting holes. I'm sure they'd love to hear all your feedback as well! Send them over an email with your suggestions!

    How hard is it to push those levers down? Seemed like you did it with your fingers but the saw weighs > 400 lbs! Also, would like to know why you didn't go with Harvey's own mobile base?

    • @outlandwoodworks
      @outlandwoodworks Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks for the question, netgorman! It’s not very hard to push the locks down. At this stage in the build, it was only the weight of the cabinet which is probably just a couple hundred pounds. The mechanical leverage the locks give you buy design also helps a lot. Even after the entire saw was assembled and I moved it, they are still not difficult to lock. I went with Bora over the Harvey base for a couple of reasons. 1) The Harvey bases are not compatible with extension legs. 2) I liked the low profile of the Bora. 3) My research led me to believe that the Bora bases worked very well and supported a lot of weight; this is my first base from them.
