Friday Night in Dublin Bay - Alan Hilliard
Most evenings I walk from Clontarf to the end of the Bull Wall. These dadys I walk for particular reasons. On Friday the 13th of November I was walking on my own and I tuned into Eoin O’Neill’s The West Wind and heard a tune from Dympna O’Sullivan whose anniversary falls on the 20th of November. She was one of earths and indeed heavens delights who left us too early in 2015. And it’s not her music we miss…it is Dympna we miss.
As I looked at the steam blowing from the incinerator chimney, I used to look to the barber poles at the Pigeon House, I noted that the wind was blowing from the west. I wrote the first two verses when I sat back in my car and completed the other two when I got home. The west coast never leaves us.
Friday Night in Dublin Bay
A West wind blows across the bay
as The West Wind sends tunes
that heave and swirl with night’s dark waves.
Sound wave and sea wave arrive as one to this place of ebb and flow.
The heart is carried by wind and tune to places of laughter, story and step.
Carried too to places of rhythm and pitch
Where we can taste what it is to be fully alive
in the treasured all too few of our earthly present moments.
Wake to this moment when wind, wave and heart-sounds
Rise and fall together in enchanted heaves
Pray that pain past and anxious future do not steal what is truly treasured and of infinite worth in this blustery now.
Let us sit together beneath
Heavens canopy lulled by rock and shore
Until there is no worry, anxiety, or worthlessness.
Let us be resilient until new beginnings make us one.

What a treat. James Keane returns from the US to his native Dublin to play a few tunes with Mark Lysaght on guitar in The Cobblestone. His tunes and stories connected with the local area as he related childhood memories of his many trips from Driminagh to Fr. Matthew Hall on Church St. for all sorts of sessions and attempts to get the last bus home. He was accompanied by his brother Sean, of t...

Dympna in her usual humble style told me not to load this up but now we have no choice but to honour her memory and her brilliance. Those who know Dympna know that her music changed these last few years in the midst of her illness. More than ever she made tunes her own and she promoted her own compositions. I am broken hearted that she has left us but am so happy that she left us this music so ...

Feakle 2015...Joe Fitzgerald leads this lovely slow air and Seamus Begley joins him with the words. Joe is from 'reel' country in East Clare and Seamus is from the land of 'slides and polkas' in West Kerry but the two get on so well together.....Derek Hickey is the thrid man playing along beautifully...Joe now lives in Melbourne and is home for the summer..we are lucky to have him around..enjoy

Joe Fitzgerald is originally from the Scariff area of County Clare..here he both tells the story of a song he carries with him everywhere and then he sings it beautifully in Peppers Pub. Irish emigrants from the area surrounding Feakle went to Australia and some worked as drovers..they drove cattle in Queensland and they were famous for their skill and dedication. This song captures much of the...

The girl in black that isn't with the band sounds as good as Kristy M.
I love it!!!!!
Love this, the craic is mighty no matter where you go in Ireland once a lad brings the guitar fiddle or tin whistle out it’s all about enjoying the music and the craic Erin go bragh 🇮🇪
As someone who's seen Shane perform this live, I can say fewer lyrics were forgotten or flubbed in this version
Just fantastic. God bless the Irish.
I am Japanese.but I love his music. great song.
Excellent. This is how this song is supposed to be performed. Shane was just the one who taught people how to do it... RIP, Shane and thank you for the all gifts you gave us!
Best Christmas song ever invented and it's Irish-American. LOVE.
this is probably my favorite rendition of this song ... the camera angle, the flute guy, the way you can pay attention to any person and see a whole story unfold, the way the girls are trying to sing louder than the boys. absolutely beautiful, perfection. hits especially hard now that shane has passed. in retrospect, it's the perfect tribute to him -- just a bunch of people having a good time in a pub, exactly how he would have wanted people to experience his music. RIP
🙏🕯🍀🕊🌠🕯🙏
What are the lyrics ?
Good bless you all

Brilliant
I bloody love the Irish. Wonderful people.
The lad looking on looks completely bemused. Like he was expecting something else.
Shane is smiling down from pub heaven right now.
hardly a smile becoz of the temple beer prices
God rest his soul. Rest in Peace, Shane. We all love you. What a tribute, the lot of you ❤
Fantastic . Just as it should be
