It's not new. The origin is sites like ytmnd, 4chan, even CZcams around the mid-2000s. Gen Z still riffs on memes from that era. I constantly go back to classic videos from 16 years ago and see some zoomer commenting "ahead of its time 💀" but it was my high school years.

What a load of… All of those are typical of millennial humour. However, Gen Z is incredibly aggressive towards older gens and will argue in favour of almost anything if that’s what it takes to be anti. In a similar way what they deem funny, often has nothing to do with the meme itself or any circumstances, it’s simply that something has to be funny at the end of the day. So when they are done taking their turns, whatever is left is simply deemed funny. Hence the meaningless jokes. Truely the trashiest generation of all time. It’s like a gen got excreted into reality and everyone told them that sadly there’s nothing unique left for them to do and now they have no idea what to do with themselves… 😂

To add a point: Gen Z is the earliest generation that has become "aware"😂 of how life truly is nothing what colorful books tell it is. They've seen all cool stuff humanity can offer to you via internet at early age. Imagine, baby boomers weren't living in info-oversaturated conditions. For them even new train type or modern smartphones were a BIG deal. My grandmother was so interested how is it even possible to call and see a person using facetime or skype. It was real curiosity. Gen Z has seen it all. Not in person but enough to never be amused again. And humour is similar. Ordinary jokes? Heard them all Some pun-word gymnastics? Uhh...sometimes ok But real fun begins where unpredictable happens. Unregular. Almost impossible. Reality sucks. And humor that incorporate real concepts sucks too. It's only fun when it's unhinged, unbound by logic, untied by politics, unethical. I'd even say there is no concept of dark humor anymore. It's just "funny or not". Grim event that killed thousands? - turned into mem Crazy dictator that slaughtered millions? - Laughstock Because gen Z is "aware" that there is no control. Meaning in life is vague and they can die any moment by the hands of some junkie. So they laugh at how stupid life is. (I'm 27, kinda gen Z myself it turns out)
