Thanks for sharing.... Great truck
God how I miss the sound of the 240-cid in my old 1967 Ford F-100
Your F-100 is very pretty
I dropped a 300 six into a 1974 LTD. Some fella tried to swap in a 350 smallblock and failed miserably, leaving behind these huge chunks of C channel sticking out from the frame where the engine perches were supposed to be on the 350. I never cut them out, and it turns out that I can sit on the fender and rest my feet on these old 350 mounts. It also makes a convenient grounding point. Sitting under the hood really beats standing in the rain any day.
What oil do you use for oil change? And how many quarts? Thanks in advance!
I used Shell Rotella oil and I think it was 15w-40. Some internet postings say if you use regular oil your engine will blow up and some said that if you used Rotella your engine would blow up. But since more said you would have issues with regular oil, I went with Rotella.
We have the same name
That's funny. Did people use to pronounce your name the what the French say it? People said that all the time when Patrick Roy, the hockey player was popular.
Brings a tear to my eye . . .
Just looked through my old Ford stuff this afternoon. I had more before I moved. I feel badly about getting rid of some like I did but I figured how many 302 blocks do I really need and how many big six blocks do I really need? I kept a F600 forged crank and the 240 head. I thought I traded the 240 rods for 300 rods years ago when I built a swap in engine for an 81 Ford. I used the 240 block and the 81 300 head. But I just measured the rods and they're 240 rods. I guess I could use the 300 block with the forged crank the 240 head.. find some 292 Chevy billet rods..or not.. I'd have to machine the crank a little but it's doable. I used to know the big six stuff better than V8 stuff. Now I've forgotten most of it. I prefer the inline for ease of service but I don't want a factory carbed 6. I've got an economaster 450 mechanical secondary carb. I bet that was for a 6 with an offenhauser. I don't think I'd want it for that.. everyone makes better 6 cams, or did. If you want to spend the big bucks you can even have a roller cam made. Mobil Delvac 1300 and Delo are both SN rated. Delvac has more ZDDP. Delo has more boron. Oil isn't a problem for flat cams. Seems like Mystik has a HD oil that's good too. Just thinking. I'd still rather have a 351 but if I get rid of the overdrive...I don't like the EFI 6. The head was 68cc like the 240 head but they're known to crack. The older stuff never did.
Whose door seals were correct! Please lmk Thank you
Love the Truck! Hope you still have it and enjoy it and didn't just Flip It
Lawrence - the intent for me was to fix it up and sell it. I thought restoring old trucks would be a great business, but the numbers just don’t work out. if i do another one it would be one I would keep.
Nice truck. I maintain & drive a '65 F100 2WD. Had the 240 for 31 yrs. Made 169,000 miles. Was very strict on the 3,000 mile oil/filter changes. Never once went past the 3,000 mile limit on oil/filter changes. The last 9,000 +/- miles...was going thru too much oil. Had it removed. Replaced it with a 300. Everything fit up from the 240 to the 300. I put the EFI exh mnflds on the 240. What a difference. Not enough to go with another 240. Now the 300 benefits in the "breathing" dept too. I am so pleased with the 20 more h.p. I still use the 1V carb & oil bath air filter. I look forward to more yrs of trouble free driving (as long as I maintain it).
The 1965 is a nice truck. While I liked the 240, it felt underpowered many times. I imagine that the extra 20hp did make a big difference. Glad you are still enjoying your truck!
What difference in miliaege between the 240 and 300
There is a little less mileage with the 300. I gladly give that up for the difference in power.
Who had the best door seals for your pretty truck! It is identical to my father in laws, and mine is whit on top and blue bottom. We have several family owned since New! Love 67-72 Fords the most but have others too and cherish. They were all Awesome in the 60s n 70s. Gonna keep yours or Sell? Maybe you will see this. YOU Seem to like it lots. Hopefully your driving it still
Lawrence. The door seals were from Denise Carpenter. The first set I purchased from another company kept the doors from closing correctly and I ended up throwing them away. But the Denice carpenter ones worked very well. I ended up selling it. It was my first restoration project. I really did enjoy it and at times wish I had kept it to enjoy it a bit more.
Nice truck! Are you keeping it
sweet truck
The big six is the best engine ever.
I have a 67 Ford Econoline cargo or panel van if you will with the same motor you did a fine job on yours very nice work but the 240 and the 300 are not exactly identical block the 300 has more bore stroke Etc but basically the same. Good job
What is “this”
Hi Ray, can you be more specific? Do you mean 'what is orange peel'?
Do you do customer trucks or you only worked on you’re
Jesus. My hope with this truck was to start a side business, but the numbers just did not work out. I did enjoy working on it.
Chris Roy if you still have the truck I would like to buy of you
@@JesusOrtiz-qp1so I sold it on consignment last June. I believe they listed it for $18,500. If, or when, I do another one, I am going to get it from Oregon or Washington.
Chris Roy when ever you have another f100 let me know thanks
Where did you get the seat cover, head liner, and door jams? Really nice and I’m doing my 68 F250. Also what did you do use to apply the paint?
I purchased stuff from Dennis Carpenter, NPD (National Parts Depot) and Mac Auto Parts. Dennis Carpenter parts were the best quality and fit, however they were also the most expensive. The seat covers were NPD and worked good. The weather stripping for the doors from NPD, but caused problems so I ended up getting a second set from Dennis Carpenter.
I used an older air compressor and an HPLV air gun from Harbor Freight and it was a disaster. I would get a sufficient air compressor and an HPLV gun from somewhere else.
Is this the same truck from Unique Classic Cars auction?
It was sold through Unique Classic Cars June of 2021.
Sweet! Oh how I wish I had one of these!
Beautiful color truck
Thanks. When I first painted it blue and wimbeldon white I was pretty nervous as to how it looked. However, once I put the tires, chrome and accessories on, it really turned out nice.
#1 reason for liking the straight 6 is the same reason I have too
Nice job. I'm just bginning on my chrome yellow one... bought new at Millls Ford in Fairfield MT. All papers still with the truck. Thanks for the insight
That is pretty cool that you bought it new, and you still have the papers. I would think that the body is pretty good, being from Montana. I am from Minnesota, and it took me a long time to find this truck. Enjoy working on it!
Damn no idiots in b.m.w.s dousch rolling u? No traffic lights? I have the same truck...flo on da floor...but a 300 inline six dual Webber's tuned headers hot cam lowered 3 in the front 4 in the rear....
We have BMW's and Audi's here, but then tend to get a bit confused and stay away when I am driving.
I have the same truck but it's got a 300...a twin Webber carb intake with tuned headers from Clifford performance...new brakes new drums new clutch new brake lines new radiator...rebuilt transmission ...rebuilt rear end...rebuilt front end all dropped 3 inches in the front..4 in the rear c notched the rear frame. Now I'm needing body work and paint...plus all the interior...and little things like mirrors and trim pieces...long way to go but I'm about 2/3rds done...the paintina is cool so?....cracker box white...now It needs a little tlc...lol and a boat load of money.....I love that 67s are the first year square style...
Sounds like you have come a long way! It was a good idea to do all the mechanicals first, then the body and interior next. Also, you are correct about the cost. It cost me quite a bit more than I had anticipated.
Love 67 f100s...it looks nice
Thanks for the comment.
It’s lovely, my fav year. By chance did you buy it from unique classic cars?
I actually sold it through Unique Classic Cars. They are about 1 hour from me in Mankato.
My 66 240 sounds exactly like yours. I have everything to swap it out for a 390 and I’ll probably get to it sometime the fall. I bought a 360 and found a 390 crank and a set of 390-428 rods. I bought a edelbrock 390 performer intake and a comp cams complete cam kit with everything. The engine came with the complete flywheel and clutch and bell housing and 3 speed transmission which is the same one behind the 240 and with the 9” heavy duty rear end with 3:89 gears should be able to pull anything.
That truck is really going to be nice when done!
Needing some help with a friend of mines truck. Could you do a video on setting points, and timing please.
I ended up selling the truck. The timing was pretty easy, and I think the points were also.
We're did you order your door weather stripping
This was the second set and I believe I ordered them through Dennis Carpenter. The first set I purchased did not work.
Is your truck an automatic or manual?
Manual
how fast could you drive steadily on the highway without pushing the engine?
I could about 60mph for an hour or so, but that was about it.
@@chrisroy2950 thanks, i just bought a 1966 f100 w same engine. three on tree.
yep, 60 is it
Beautiful truck I've got a 65 ford f100 with a 240 6 with a c4 automatic 3spd no overdrive it's the best truck I've ever had working on them is so fun and easy and there durable little motors I prefer it to anything new out there
Couldn't agree more!
Hey I have a 66 Ford f100 with the 300cid inline6 and me and my dad had to put a new carburetor and ignition switch in it
I bet that was fun to work on with your dad.
Where is the oil drain plug location?
I don't exactly remember, but it is very obvious once you are under the truck.
destroy it.
Don't like Fords?
@@chrisroy2950 Weird. Not sure why my comment was applied to this vid. I have a 65 F250.
@@beans4gas I get that's a nice truck!
Nice job , your to modest , suck it up and know your kids are waiting for you to kick the bucket so they can have your truck . . . I've got a 68 f 100 stock and my daily is my old's 88
Thanks for the comment. It was a real learning experience. I bet you enjoy your '68
These engines my favorite as well! Easy to work on, bare bones simplicity.
Right on! It was a great engine to work on.
Chris this 67 truck is insanity gorgeous man I love everything about it
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it!
Nice truck. Love those old straight 6s
The straight 6 was really fun to work on.
Love your truck. Most of my fleet of hot rods use 240 / 300 engines. Great engine for a buildup.
It was a perfect engine for me to learn on.
That is one good looking, well kept ford pick up!
Thanks. I appreciate the comment!
My 66 custom cab short bed has the 240 3 speed on the tree. I love the power of the little 6. Mine does have a 9” with 3:89 gears so it hums pretty good after 60 mph.
A shortbed would be a nice truck. While this goes pretty good at 60, it got a bit challenging at 70.
Nicely done, respect. Love the honesty and simplicity of the old trucks.
I did enjoy the simplicity of this truck. The engine was easy to work on and the interior was basic, but functinal.
Beautiful truck.
Thanks for the comment! These were fun colors back then.
Just started on one. Got it going but not as smooth as yours. Job Well done!
This truck was not that smooth when I first started on it. There was a lot of ticking and it ran pretty rough. With some research and time, you'll be able to get yours running smooth also.
Where did you get the door seals?
I believe that the second set was from Dennis Carpenter.
My dad loved those old straight six's
I find that people really love those old six cylinders.
You makes some nice clear vids. Surprised you have so few subscribers. I love these kinds of vids. I'm putting a 300 I6 into my 09 JKU. I sub'd.
I am actually surprised people like the videos : ) The Ford straight 6 is a very nice engine to work on and also known for reliability. Good luck on the project.
