    This video became extremely relevant, thanks for the California raising minimum wage to 20 USD, which forced companies to raise prices on foods, and in turn make more customers disenfranchised with that decision, as they instead seek better alternatives like cooking meals at home and meal delivery services.

    The whole system is predicated on three things: 1) Everyone agrees to the system of PMCs (“Rights Enforcement Agencies”), which would effectively act in a duel capacity of legal and martial/civil defense, and a private court system. Both of which can easily be corrupted but somehow are “incentivized” not to. Both would have no shared uniform framework so courts would be arbitrary in their decisions and REAs would vary wildly on their terms or rules. You’d have to enforce “laws” via amicable arbitration, otherwise what’s to stop REAs from ignoring rulings. Or worse still REAs ignoring the wills of their subscribers and becoming a criminal syndicate outright, turning it into an extortion racket. Just think about what happened in many an Antiquity or Renaissance era Italian city when a Free Company (Mercenary Army) was hired to protect the town or region only to decide and seize the town for themselves. Heck the Anglo-Saxons-Jutes were mercenaries hired by the Romano-Britons to fight against the Picts after the government (Roman Empire) left, only for the mercenaries to seize the land and make it their own turning Britain into a series of warlord states (the Pentarchy). 2) “Wars are unprofitable”. Which ignores petty disputes leading to armed conflict, because legal frameworks only work when both sides agree with the outcome and if people don’t care about the losses or the supposed gains the notion of loss is itself lost in the clamor for victory. It isn’t profitable if you lose, it’s profitable if you win. If someone continues to ignore or go against the “Private Courts” rulings then what’s to stop them? Force. If enough people ignore the rulings or their “REA(s)” decide to ignore court rulings what’s to stop them. The British/Dutch/French East India Trading Companies expanded and controlled vast swaths of territory, expanding without being told to by their respective countries (they were beholden to their stockholders) by use of force, coercion, or bribery. Their “court systems” were based off their countries respective court systems but had no incentive to protect native populations from their Companies’ wills. All were chartered companies that weren’t funded by their governments until they failed, which then required government annexation and intervention. 3) Everything relies on the absence of corruption in any degree. Which companies and businesses are prone to do without oversight/enforcement of laws. Governments can have corruption, but the revolution and/or democratic change happens if it gets too troublesome. If a company or business becomes corrupt it fails, becomes a Ponzi scheme, is incentivized for its own survival to seize more assets to make profit, shrinks/downsizes to make profit again (which is impossible to succeed in a corrupt company), or the owner/CEO/Board of Directors take the money and run. In the case of a mercenary force (PMC) they begin to seize assets or coerce people to “give” assets, because what’s to stop them. Wagner PMC, which admittedly was practically an arm of the Russian state before 2021, owns many oil fields and properties in Sudan and Syria that they were “given” as “payment” to fight in said countries. Wagner is a corrupt PMC but still made profit until the failed March on Moscow.

    in the real world there are lose-lose wars that keep on going, and there are lose-win wars since not all participants in wars are of relatively equal power. also we know what happens when a corporation has an army, just look at the early history of colonialism. it doesn't need customers. it just acts like an undemocratic government. also outcomes of elections do a significant effect on individual lives, and the real obstacle to better decisions is not individual lazyness it's education level, stress of being overworked, and billionaire & conglomerate owned media, campaign finance corruption, and a horribly designed system of representative government in the US.

  • @Elden_Cock_Ring
    @Elden_Cock_Ring Před 3 měsíci

    No government, but each person is a customer to a firm that they pay money to in order to have their rights protected and disputes settled (just like how taxes are paid by individuals who then fall under the rules and regulations of that government that taxes are paid to) Also, if laws aren't set up as universal guidelines, but instead utilized as a product in order to attract firms who wish to participate under laws that are favorable to their business, doesn't that open up even more potential for enforcement agencies to be bought off by said firms? Since there's no overriding law against paying your way to victory, and any law against that would be up to the enforcing party, they could easily take as many bribes as they want and deem it legal Also, if in this imaginary society you're the loser in a case under a particular enforcement agency, what's to stop you from just not paying up and taking the case to another enforcement agency that favors you? Since there is no universal law or enforcement entity, but rather those that are opted in by firms, there is nothing stopping one from just taking their opponent to a different enforcement entity of their choosing and not accepting what the previous one decreed as the verdict

      can you quote the part where this claim is made, or relied upon? you wont find it. the more modest idea is that war gives unpredictable results, and is generally bad for business. this is why war is typically waged by states, or private parties supported by states - who aren't encumbered by the same limitations as businesses (coercive taxation and control over money supply vs competition on the market)

    • @gwabafett

It produces rather unpredictable results so 0:36 from the standpoint of both firms it makes much more sense to agree on a 0:41 private court, an arbitration agency, that will settle disputes between them and 0:46 whose verdicts they will abide by. The reason given for why the "Rights enforcement agencies" would want to arbitrate disputes instead of going to war is that war is expensive and unpredictable. My comment was pointing out that although this is true, thinking that this would actually mean there wouldn't be wars requires you to ignore all of history. War has always been expensive and not always advantageous in the long run, but many wars have happened anyway. War is also "Generally bad for business" but not always bad for business, and you won't know until afterwards. Businesses take risky gambles with potential huge payouts all the time.

    So as a poor person, I should try to find the private courts that are NOT motivated by money. Which is all of them, because they're private courts. And I have to do this every time a person wants to use their comparatively greater resources to take advantage of me. Which they will, because there is a financial incentive to do so. You know, you could have just said "Yes, poor people will have fewer rights".

    • @Slugma-kx7pv
      @Slugma-kx7pv Před měsícem

      You completely missed the point and misrepresented it. The mass of the people is what they don't want to screw over, between the richer and poorer, thus they're incentivized to not take bribes. It sends a bad signal, through media sources, to the end consumer of said service because it begs the question "What if this happens to me?". The point is to always challenge these hierarchies, as opposed to the state having a monopoly on courts and you can't do anything about it as the average person. Let alone, good luck being poor and in a system of the state having said monopoly on courts. But lets say you're poor and you get into a conflict dispute. This is honestly an easy problem to solve. Individually, the mass of the people are poorer than the rich. Said mass of people will likely want to fund charity to help individuals fight back against a richer opponent in the courts. Especially if the poorer person of said conflict dispute feels like they're being screwed over by their rights protection agency, a charity can help pick up the costs to migrate that person to a different one of their choosing. Said charitable firms can also provide their own rights enforcement service in the meantime to help the poorest of the given society as well. To say being poor would mean you have less rights is absurd. It is only when there is the state having monopoly over such services when you see such bribes, political corruption and the richest screwing over the poorest. Poorer persons don't benefit off of a state monopoly, only the rich and political class of people do.

    • @FireheadLazzo

      @@Slugma-kx7pv I don't think I've misrepresented anything. Do we expect poor people to give up all their money to other poor people to fight legal battles? > "The mass of the people is what they don't want to screw over, between the richer and poorer, thus they're incentivized to not take bribes" Why? You didn't give a reason, but you phrased it like you did. Who cares what the poor people think about the integrity of the private courts? Just make them settle and collect a paycheck. What're they gonna do? Use all the money they don't have to fight back?

      @@anarchic_ramblings A government is an organization tasked with: - deciding what rights they'll enforce - enforcing those rights The way to decide the rights depends on the government. They might be decided by one person whose decision is final, and you have an absolutist monarchy. Rights might be inferred from interpretations of some sacred text, a theocracy. Or the citizens chose representatives to decide the rights to be enforced, a representative democracy. You might agree with some of those rights (for example the right to private property) or not (for example the right to receive help from a welfare program), but it's still a system for first deciding and then enforcing those rights.

    Two main problems here: 1) just like in a capitalist-influenced democracy, the "private court" in this libertarian setup can essentially be bought off by the large private powers that govern the market of right enforcement agencies. What stops the agencies from colluding or simply becoming a monopoly that GOVERNS the rights and behavior of its subjects? 2) Also, if you're poor, do you have any rights enforced? If you have to pay for a rights enforcement agency, that implies that the richest people have their rights fully enforced, and the poorer people pay for the "economy package" of rights. This is basically government but with business warlords instead of states.

      DING DING DING! We have a winner! Libertarians don't give a shit about the poor: they want to be part of the Aristocracy and hold all the rights and power for themselves. Or they're extremely naive and have no understanding of human nature (I'd argue even more naive then Communists).

    So… You made a government with extra steps. You’re still just paying taxes. Also what stops these groups from just meeting together and forming a monopoly? If there’s no government and it’s all privatized, they could just you know. Make a monopoly and charge 90% your wage there’d be no downside If a smaller start up tries to make a competitor, The monopoly can just murder them. Because why not, no law except private companies they decide the law. And sense they form a monopoly anyone who isn’t them can be destroyed without any consequence This system would basically just turn into warlords OR it’d just become a government again.
