Holy frozen peas batman! I got cold feet just watching that. Hi 👋 from Australia
What AMC hut was that?
Lonesome lake hut, on kinsman
I grew up seeing people in backpacks in summer living in this area (where i grew up) and have hiked this section several times. Nice memories. Home of Bill Bryson
Love Canada Jay. I think NH specializes in that type of snow, I had bruises ever year from postholing.
That was awesome. I loved every minute, explanation and encounter on the trail. Enjoying living vicariously through your adventure.
That’s some hard hiking!! Be safe!
Geesh. What next? Maybe a moose? I so much enjoy every one of your vlogs. Safe travels Guy.
This is a great channel, all 3 trails in 1 year! Wow 4 months per trail that’s amazing ❗️
best video. Loved it. Why? Lots to see and full of new things besides hiking trails. Thumbs up big time I could not stop laughing about the "church group from Canada" Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha . I don't know too many church groups hiking from Canada and I live in Vancouver BC and hike 3-4 times a week. Loved it. I'm going to go looking for Church groups starting today. Ha Ha Ha Ha Loved it Sheila
Yup, that bird flanked me Saturday. Shredded my hood thank God I had it up. Went down and let the Harrison’s know so they can put the signs back out. Last year it didn’t nest there. But it’s back
I'm glad you're okay and knew to let someone know for the rest of the hikers to be warned. Thank you. Not that I'm hiking there, but I appreciate people helping people.
Greatest video yet. So well done. Thanks for showing how tough it can be. You must be one of the earliest 2024 NOBO’s.
AT Dream Hike is first 2024 NOBO hiker to finish this week, but Katahdin isn’t open yet. Jaru isn’t far behind!
Are you getting frustrated or mentally worn down? Hiking this type of ground, post holing, scary situations , etc has to be mentally taxing you to some degree. You’re doing great and I think you will blow through the PCT.
Yes, I was ragged by the time I hit Maine
I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I'm on the edge of my seat because it seems like the dam weather has you behind where you should be to complete rhe CYTC. I'm rooting for you and hope you can catch up and successfully accomplish it.
I watched a video this afternoon explaining your equipment preferences, etc.. Now I can't locate it. I appreciated the opportunity to learn.. I would love to watch it again..
I will repost it. had to take it down because I showed my credit card on it
Feels like you are talking just to me. THAT is a good communicator. Where are you now? Also, you mentioned climbing Katahdin. Did you do that before?
Thanks, im near Katahdin. Yes, I tried to summit on Jan 16th this year but only made it half way. Covered in a video published just before week 1, where I walk from Canada to just outside Katahdin
I forgot about that! You are really getting there! So proud of you and happy for you.
SO stinkin' cool!!!!!
That big ol' mountain bully was helping to build your character. 🤣😉 Your spirit shines in this video. It is my favorite so far. Keep on grumblin' and grinnin'! 💜
How much water were you needing on a daily basis while going through the Whites?
Maybe 4-5 liters
@@JaruWalks thank you
Why did your gear review just disappear?
I wondered the same! Hope he re-posts it.
I realized my credit card was straight up in the video. I’ll repost it in a few days.
Good catch! I’ll be looking forward to the repost. Thanks!
The Appalachians are a rainforest while the Rockies are not. Marvelous diversity but ireally enjoy the rain forest. Thanks for the hike to those breathtaking views!
Do you know of some guy named “Finisher?” He got the number one tag/spot to summit Katahdin yesterday. (Waiting for the mountain to open). Says he stepped off in GA 2/26. So weird. Oh, and congrats for getting through this day, and sharing it with us!
Yes, I met him on trail. He passed me at the Mahoosuc Notch. He’s a real hiker.
@@JaruWalks thanks for replying! Glad to hear he’s the real deal.
Beaver Brook is a bear! When I saw you on Moos that day I was glad to see you had an ice axe. I figured there'd be a few sketchy areas like the stairs.
We're only a few days from June now, are you still on pace to complete the CYTC?
Technically no, I’m behind pace. But I’m trying to complete a calendar year triple crown on a continuous footpath while obeying the park rules (katahdin is closed). If I were trying to assure I complete the cytc in time I would have flipped to the pct a while back. If there were Vegas odds, I would assume my chances are like 30% right now. Once I am up katahdin and on the pct, we should get a quick sense of if I can put the daily mileage out i will need to finish on time. It is still absolutely possible. But I have gambled, and the outcome depends on when they open katahdin and how fast I’m able to hike on the pct.
Good luck. I'm rooting for you.
Any chance of mentioning the date in your videos or how long of a delay between hiking/ shooting the video and the release of the video???
No, there are people who will come look for you on the trail, so I don’t do that so they can’t find me. I post on a varied delay to keep it intentionally confusing.
@@JaruWalks what a messed up world we live in, eh, that this has to be part of how you stay safe out there! Hike on!
I enjoy these a lot, thank you. This hike would've been easier in the deep winter with reliable snow somehow. That shot at 4:00 gave me shivers!
That ledge-edge walking! Wooooo-weeee
As you probably know by now, you're mispronouncing Moosilauke in these videos (at least you are consistent, though). It rhymes with "Milwaukee," not "walk." (I confirmed by viewing Taylor the Nahamsha Hiker's Winter hike on Mt. Moosilauke video prior to posting this comment). Hike on!
So I have had two people correct me saying it rhymes with lock and rhymes with Milwaukee. I actually pronounce it both ways in the video because I’ve not been given a definitive pronunciation from locals
@@JaruWalks fair enough. You try, and you correct yourself when you make mistakes, and that's great. Hike on!
I wouldn’t go by Taylor. She mispronounces “especially” as “eck-specially” and it makes me cringe every time.
Katahdin is 5269 ft. Mt Washington is 6288.
Pretty sure that's me you mentioned around 15 min mark. You and I chatted for about 10 mins on Moosilauke. Was fantastic running into you and hearing your story! Fun following your story in the Whites and the ugnliness of postholing and the "joys" of April/May in NH. Ask any hiker which month they hate the most up here and it's almost always going to be May. It's ugly at times! Can only imagine what Fishin Jimmy was like coming off North Kinsman.
Nice to hear from you! Yeah, the snow was hard going, but the whites are still my favorite section
Are you local enough to confirm the pronunciation of Moosilauke? Does it rhyme with lock or Milwaukee?
@1519Spring excellent inquiry! "It can be pronounced Moose-il-lock or Moose-il-lock-ie. Either is fine. For those who are interested Moosilauke is named after Mt. Moosilauke in New Hampshire." Dartmouth folks moose-il-lock.
This episode really shows why the CYTC is so challenging!
Great hike! Betcha them coyotes smelt ya too! Hair raising! Your red light wouldve drove me nuts 😂 So why is the Terminus across the Border? Im following your CYTC!
The border fence is actually built by Americans on American soil 1 foot before the exact border, which is exactly marked by the obelisk I am standing on.
Your last video was epic.
First
I see 5 stacks videos and other people i knew are within the first 25 then i see yours and compare the weather. Youve got to be on the PCT by now
Any which case, congratulations on the new climate and new trail.
Not quite, but close.
I just finished this section this weekend! I hiked from the co-op grocery store in Hanover to the hikers welcome hostel! I had much warmer weather conditions than you did! Haha! I'm enjoying your posts, keep up the good work!
Great video again!
That hawk is the Blair Witch. Told you. Watch out.
Blair witch missed
Northern Goshawk...Being near a nest will set them off on a vicious attack.
Man that north face is sketchy even without snow. Just a slight bit of moisture on that slope makes it so scary. Glad you made it.
I appreciate you wearing a helmet. You really think ahead and im glad. Well..... except when you hiked in the swamp just north of High Point NJ. That really had me worried for your health. Keep on being safe and thanks for sharing your experience.
Another great musing on the difference between modern central heating and various steps down from that in terms of direct exposure to elements. The difference in type of people who lived in the 1800s vs 2020s was also an interesting exploration. Enjoy your monologues and reflections while hiking! The mountain was no joke---very steep. Good tour of the two hostels.
Sentient in so many ways.
You are a trooper! Much respect for your hike. Been watching your AT hike from day one and in my humble opinion you’re a purist, it’s all about the hike, not all the side parties like a lot of AT hike videos. Keep it going! Good luck!
NH is my home state. Thank you for being so informative! I'm so glad you Moosilauke hike went well. I have watched nervous folks on a good, dry day and have some nervousness!
That cabin and the way you filmed it looks like something out of Blair Witch project. The shelter is not on the map because you went through a wormhole to get there. It felt magical because it is. The witch is hiking with you now and she will get you in your sleep. Maybe keep one eye open at night.
The ghosts know to not mess with me. 😋
Ah, they lose their fear When death draws near And so will I When it is time to fly And join them Rockever
The fact you had that gear waiting for you shows your experience and thoughtfulness. Most just can't fathom the treachery of a trail like that. Again, loving how you take us along and your talks through your thoughts.
How recently did you summit?
I think it was the 4th week of April
That’s about as sketch as it gets…😵💫 Love Notch Hostel!
Holy crap. I was SOBO, so I climbed the north face of Moosilauke. I can’t imagine coming down it in the snow…. Well done man!
Moosilauke is bad enough in the fall says this reluctant hiker dragged by parents
Good to see you today. I found myself thinking about your travel in the Whites when I tapped the thermostat during yesterday's cold PNW day. Crazy how I can add to my comfort with a couple gentle taps. Ironic the similar thoughts in your video today. I lived on my property before building. A tiny experience of a three walled shelter, no running water and an outhouse. Magical days that I will always love! I imagine the slide you took had your heart racing. Glad the tree stood there to help you out. (Also glad you have a helmet!) Take careful steps and immerse in the moments. Still cheering you on from the west coast. 💜
Welcome to NH (of course you are gone by now). We say it everyday “We Love Nh”. My wife 63 and I 60 hiked Smarts Mt. southbound 2 days ago and discussed whether we would see you. We were late!!!. Anyway, yes an awesome hiking community here. We hike the Whites all year and like a lot of us we find winter hiking better. No bugs, a steady slope with no rock hopping/climbing and the views. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your experience in the whites. I hope they treated you as well as they treat us.
