This banjo has a"ball bearing" tone ring which had a seperate outside skirt with holes in it, known today as a "shotgun" ...

I messed up by wiring and putting the Input outside
Hey that 1925 looks a lot like mine!
The 1925 ball bearing!! ❤
I think the first one with the shotgun skirt sounded the best, but that’s my opinion I have a Sterling staghorn, but I’ll listen to all of them. I like the first one the best thanks for this. I appreciate you so much.
You mentioned that the banjo sounded “mapley” and might need a little more adjusting down. Vaguely, what adjustment types help maple banjos sound more Mastertone like ?
Maybe it’s just me but the ball bearing sounded the best. BBs are tricky to setup but when they are loosened up and let them do what they are designed to do man oh man do they sound great
Just Returned from the "Chalet". RItchie and Will, installed a Dotson Bridge on an IBANEZ (MIJ BANJO) ( UNBELIEVABLE! ). Tried, "Scorpion" " Sullivan" "Grover". THANKS RITCHIE & WILL!
I hate you lol😊
Also could not hear what he was saying. I would like to have heard his description of each prior to his great picking.
Unfortunately, this is an older video and we needed to upgrade microphones which we have now. My apologies. You may be able to find that information in the description below the video. Thank you again so much.
Thank you for your response Mr. Dotson. Still enjoyed your picking.@@RichieDotson
Awesome Banjo! That wreath pattern will be on mine soon! Thanks again for the beautiful work
Hey Ritchie, enjoyed your video. I've never played a prewar Gibson banjo, but they sound great. I knew Danny Roberts in the early 1980's and I gave banjo lessons in Danny and Freddie's music store in Murfreesboro, Tn. The New Tradition used to practice there in their shop. Y'all played some great music. I still listen to it on CZcams.
Earl Scruggs taught us all how to play a banjo in the right way and and thank the Lord for him it’s like you said I don’t know what I’d be doing today I like the Earle‘s Scruggs review I’ve got their albums. He was very innovative and thank you for showing us that banjo. It was a treat.
Sounds Great, But I am blind and cannot see it. Is it within My Budget?
Stay off BHO?🤔 Really?
I look forward to your videos: keep them coming. I’m fortunate to own a 1927 tb5 with a no hole ring I bought from Jim Mills. Wonderful banjo, great tone. Unfortunately, it’s not worth today what I paid 10 years ago, but WHO CARES! I’m not selling this one. The craftsmanship is superb on these models. Thanks again for your fun banjo content.
What a treat it was for you to play that and show that. Mandolin I’m sure it’s a price well over 100,000 but it was great to see it. Thank you for what you do. I appreciate you so much.
So right. I own a smeared label (think around '84) GS and the neck is huge and it weighs a ton. Great banjo other than that. Nice work, Ritchie.
Thank you I appreciate your channel
Do you have a great channel? I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of a pyramid tone ring course. I’m not as educated on banjos as you are. I can’t wait to hear it.
I love seeing the old banjos hopefully one of these days I’ll be able to help me one of those old banjos did you touched? Thanks Richie good luck on your arthritis. I know that’s aggravating for you.
Yes I do. I love your channel. Keep on going. I enjoy you refurbishing the banjos I played since 1974 which doesn’t mean a lot only time I really play is if they have chicken wire up to catch the bottles and rocked. Yes I love your channel keep going.
Thanks for the video Richie , always looking for the next one.
Sounding real good!
I have learned a ton from you. Thanks for all the info on these old Gibson. Just bought a 1925 tb1 conversion and amazed at the tone and volume I get from a hoop banjo.
Thank you, Mr. Dotson! This video saved my bacon. Wanted to change the tone ring in my banjo, and you made me feel comfortable getting the neck off n on. Much obliged!
Thank you for all you do. Have a good day, sir.
You have a really great channel. I really enjoy watching you about redoing the banjos and all the old banjos. I’ve been playing since 1974 and they didn’t have the Internet then you just had to watch Earl Scruggs on TV and that you have I been gone for a while?
And or banjos like fiddles All fields cored. differently
If I were to change a bridge which I have done before I would just mark a line on each side of the bridge that was on there on the head and the slide the new bridge up there and take the old bridge out. Is that stupid
I could tear up over here! Wishing this seminars still took place!!
Very good young man that was a really good good son and banjo to Wound. Do you have an electric pick up attached to it just kidding.
There is a great version of this tune with Carl Jackson and Glen Campbell if you can find it.
Does anyone know where I can find information on the Bill Worrell RB-75 ?
Do you have a great channel and you know your stuff you really do I appreciate you telling us all this information. I’ve been playing since 1974 I have a sterling stag horn And I enjoyed it very much but you got a great channel. Keep up the good work keep going.
Very nice. I don’t suppose you have the tabs for this?
Thanks Ritchie, very informative. I have a old banjo needs a new head. If I get in too deep I'll send it to you!
Great sounding banjo and great picking as well. I just bought a 1925 tb style 1 conversion yesterday and am excited to get to play it. Thanks for sharing and educating us on these old banjos as there’s not much info out there on them. Question, is these early 20s style 1s maple or mahogany resonator and neck? Thanks
First of all thanks for the awesome videos. I just purchased a 1925 tb1 conversion today ,now just waiting on it to get here now. Are these maple banjos? Thanks again hope to get up that way and meet you one day.
That banjo sounds amazing
🪕🎼🎵🎶
Good music
I want to be your student i am from India
bow tie !!!
nice
cool
Good to see you're back
I hope that’s not gone before I get down to pick up mine. I think I need to play that……..
Knew this guy could shred before he even plucked one string.
I searched and searched for an old tenor jazz banjo for many years before finding out that they were all being gathered up to convert to five strings. on the other side of the atlantic they leave the neck alone with four strings, raise the pitch by a fifth and play melody with a flat pick. The base G string intonates far better than the C does in that location.
FQMS made some amazing banjos and banjos parts. I wish Inwoukd have bought one when Bill was still alive and his big shop in Louisville.
