ICE ROAD Oslo Winter Forest Border Ride
In Norway, February 2020, I hatched a plan to do a loop following the Oslo county border as closely as possible - using roads, tracks and trails. I knew I was most likely going to come across some hiking sections and ice roads - and this was why I wanted to do it. I was seeking a test of my psychology, my attitude and my physical grit. The more rough and frustrating the route - the better!
The original route on Komoot came out at around 140km total. Traditionally, I left the house a lot later than I should have. This meant the Norwegian winter darkness crept in rather quickly. What followed was a simultaneously beautiful yet gauntlet of gravel track covered in ice and snow as well as hiking trails littered with tree roots and rocks.
As the freezing temperatures kicked in and the clock struck midnight, I made a dash back to the safety of the city. The higher elevation and snowy roads just really made the cold bite. This was also one of my first ever rides on true ice tracks so I didn't want to push my luck. The attempt rounded off at a little over 100km and a hefty chunk of elevation gain. For now, this particular challenge will have to go into the Unfinished Business pile.

ABSURD Alleycat Bike Race in Edinburgh

'Press F For Fringe' alleycat in Edinburgh, Scotland, hosted by Will (@a_p_r_v_d). The race involved lots of mind-bending and surprising tasks and the usual physical assault as well as some fun warm-up events. I placed near the back of the pack and I was totally fine with that - I got a cookie for being an out-of-towner regardless. More cycling, hiking and adventure content coming to this chann...

Great video, what a challenge! I love hiking and ultra running, but hiking boots and pavement both would make this far more painful than sneakers on dirt! I'm looking forward to checking out your other videos! It'll motivate me for my first 100k next weekend. 😅
Hope the 100km went smoothly... I'm sure there were many hurdles though!
🥇
Hello from China ;-), these are the results from my latest walking challenge. I will also share this information on other CZcams channels and try to motivate people as much as possible! Date: 11 May 2024 (starting time 04:24) Place: Beijing, China Weather conditions: Perfect Distance: 100.28 km Total time: 19 hours 01 min Walking time: 18 hours 39 min Breaks: 1 (at 54 km) Food: 1 kg oranges, 7 L water, 1 burger Health challenges/problems: Non-serious (some blisters) Training: 40 days x ca. 15 km walking
This sounds epic!
Peacocks 😂😂 great fun guys great video 👍🏻
I have my fourth ultra challenge trek coming up from London to Brighton, I’m hoping the weather will be good. I find mental strength takes over the last 20 miles, I must be crazy x
Heck yeah! Good luck. It's almost 100% mind over matter with ultra.
This was awesome. I’m planning to 78 miles in 33 hours, never done anything let this before so gunna use this as motivation
Goooooooooooo go go!!!
@@josephxkendrick you rock brother 🙏🏼
It's not real...
This shit puts any other delivery channel I've seen to shame. I come back and watch it every now and then. The soundtrack the visuals. I wonder if you could pull off making a thousand pounds in a week In 2024
Thanks so much!
Congratulations! I know I'm 3 years late! But, I just found this video. As someone who has maxed out at 50km running/jogging. Respect!
Cheers man!
Well done for a top performance. What bus company did you use to London? Did you just lay your bike in the baggage hold? I thought they weren't allowed.
Can't recall - probably National Express. I think you can sometimes get lucky if it's quiet. It is a nuisance though and causes anxiety. Even trains are annoying to book / plan with a bike. Guess that's why it's good to get strong at riding super far so you never have to use them... ha!
@@josephxkendrick Thanks for replying. I have some mega rides coming up. I have a 300km C2C2C Audax ride in the summer to do ... not as long as your ride though!
Just discovered your vlog. I used to walk long distance when I was working in the city. What brand of shoes are you using? Are you using a running trail shoes?
I think I used a hiking boot for this so mud and puddles wouldn't mess my feet up. Did some training and a lot of hiking with Altra shoes though.
Great effort bro, well done 🫡
Grow your moustache out for mor strength. I rock a Hulk Hogan handlebar and can shoulder press my mum.
these videos are always so good Hopefully we get some more uber eats challenges in 2024 from Joseph
Let's see....!!!
Whats a good ratio for the city
For Edinburgh, something relatively spinny as there's a few hills. I'm using a ratio of 60/20 in London though!
Dude you are unstoppable
Watching the series as im going to do this challenge starting monday
How'd it go!?
I made that round trip about a dozen times in 2012. I would come back along the Shoreline at Stinson Beach highway to make the trip back longer. Amazing video.
idk why vegan influencers get so much hate or get labeled crazy. NO meat eater is doing something like this. Stats don't lie. Great work mate :) I also live in Adelaide, and wanted to bikepack to Melbourne for quite some time. This video showed me I could do anything if I put my mind to it. Who even NEEDS a car? I have one but trying to get back into cycling!
Heck yeah brother!
"Promo sm"
Uber allows you to do 24hrs straight???
Single speed surely
I flipped the rear wheel so the disc rotor is on the driveside and then used a 6-bolt fixed gear cog and centrelock converter to attach the cog. Fixed!
@@josephxkendrick why did you choose fixed?
@@Tom-hl7wc I've ridden fixed for the majority of my time riding - track cycling, courier work, alleycats, etc. Just what I'm most used to and find enjoyment (suffering) in.
Try just a slightly wider grip for mor strength
Yeah, my grip is quite narrow but it's where I've found I'm comfortable. I haven't tried variating in a while though so may do this next block. Cheers!
I mean Look at your failed attempt as an example. Your wrist is Like this \ Wider grip would make it more straight
Good luck bro i got 80kg wednesday, couldn't be happier
@@remon.d8341 Cheers. That's awesome man. 80kg is my next target. Have started doing some pin pressing and widening my grip about an inch. Feeling good.
i wanna do exactly this to my trek crockettttttttt
I've run this frameset with gears, singlespeed and fixed gear. Awesome in every application!
Por no😢
Should’ve gone belt
Im hunkering for some content brother
Real man's gear 😝
Welcome back!
I did this a couple of months ago, I gradually worked my way up each weekend before going from 50,60,70 then finally just did the 100km in about 21 hrs. I did massive loops and came back home to eat, didn’t have any weight on me, felt like a bit of a zombie at night, completely zoned out haha
Heck yeah dude, that sounds awesome. I did a few marathon and a double-marathon distances as prep for this too. Thinking about doing another 100km+ in 24 hours again this year... maybe less weight and use the shops along the way. Walking in the dead of night has a beautiful peacefulness to it - even if you're pushing yourself hard.
I would leave by 5am from the Embarcadero on this route. Very peaceful and burning 5000 calories a trip. To extend the return ride I would go along the ocean by Stinson Beach and head back to SF. Great memories.
Wow , ❤ hats off brother ❤
Thank you for taking us with your walks, while others just talk and talk and talk and talk..
I'd love to see a "daily eating" video where you show us what your diet looks like.
I ride with a fixie as well and it really is more fun, not easy but it's fun
Congrats to get the 100k done. And from personal experience I can tell it´s harder to make it in 24hrs than in 20hrs or less. Finally it´s the time on the trail which is killing the mind and the joints. My longest hike was a 26hrs solo with 120km. Trying to beat myself failed. So far. Curious, if you will try it again. Subscibed.
Yeah, pushing to the 24 hours is brutal. Last winter I did a thirty-one hour bike ride (no sleep) and the Goggins Challenge. Now I'm thinking about doing another attempt this winter - maybe actually use shops along the way this time so I don't have to carry as much weight. 26 hours for 120km is insane bro.
Good vid. What gear are you using on your single speed? (How big is the chain ring and rear cog?)
I think I was running 36/15... very small gear for all the hills and because you don't go too fast on ice
Ok what phone holder is that?!? Mofo is sturdy and I wants it.
It's a QuadLock. Served me very well until my handlebars got stolen whilst I was at the gym recently. You can find it in my Amazon recommended list: www.amazon.co.uk/shop/josephkendrick/list/WPVK28T5C1MB
You're a beast bro. Much respect. Lovin' your vids. Been doing my research before I start my gigs on a bike. What song is playing @ 22:18??🤔
scared me!
Bonkers, what a city, are you planning on going back this year? xx
Your videos are some of the only good content on CZcams and you hardly ever make any. Not cool.
Sorry! Life is wild sometimes. I'm working on it!
Just get wider tires
Rumour has it that he’s all good.
are you good Joseph? Take care man!
Hi! Where do you usually leave your bike when you do all these deliveries?
That's not how to ride a bike if you wanna survive much longer.
Everytime I watch this video I'm saying to myself I'm gunna stay out all day to do deliveries get 4 5 hours in and I wanna give up
Just got to work on endurance and motivation. Usually find listening to an interesting podcast helps if you're bored - also adds to some education whilst out too.
hey man I've been making £700 week on 40 hours work thinking about doing £1000/wk. I only work from 5 pm till 10pm so it should be do able. if I do say 1-10pm on 3 out of days?
What apps? In london?
AWESOME
