Hey, I actually just got my first One Piece card in my copy of PSA Magazine this month, and it looks great! Beyond that, I really don’t know a lot about One Piece. I’ve never watched the anime or read the manga but I have watched the live action show on Netflix and liked it (I’m sorry 😂) I have no doubt this framework applies to One Piece as well, but I don’t know enough about that market to comment on it. I’m personally a sealed product investor, and I tend to be a fan of sealed booster box long-term holds. That being said, I don’t diversify much and tend to build positions in a subset of boxes I really like. For me, that does not include Twilight Masquerade, but that doesn’t mean it won’t do well! I just think some of the recent Japanese sets are better. Hopefully my video helps give you some frameworks for thinking about this so you can make what you believe is the best choice for yourself 😊 Thanks for watching!

I think I should mention that the last card boom of 2000 also had things going on that could have caused it to have a "perfect storm". - Pokemon TCG was emerging in the States - eBay and Yahoo Auctions became a big thing - Graded cards became a huge thing - Auto and relic cards became a huge thing (thanks to NASCAR from the early to mid 90's) - MLB was recovering from a strike that left a bad taste with fans. To the point where Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were heading for the record for the the most home runs in a season, which peaked interest back into MLB and other sports

@thomas_o this is really interesting! I think, to the average Pokémon collector, the original boom around 1999/2000 feels like it was just because that’s when Pokemon cards came out in English. What you’ve pointed out is how many other factors contributed to growth in public interest in collectibles in general, which probably further contributed to the success of Pokémon at this time. And, the pandemic boom is no different! All kinds of collectibles boomed at the same time, Pokémon was just part of it 💪

I’m not a financial advisor but I personally agree that dollar cost averaging into an index fund over the long term is a strong strategy and is an important part of becoming financially established. But, for those of us already doing that and have a high risk tolerance, allocating a portion of your portfolio to something like collectibles can be fun and rewarding. I love that strategy! And, I couldn’t agree more: Shiny Treasure ex is as cheap as any Pokemon product ever gets. Hell: Japanese Pokemon Go booster boxes never even got this cheap! But, although it’s not perfect, Shiny Treasure ex is actually a solid set and has a strong chance of appreciating. So: low downside risk with solid upside potential. It’s hard to say but I think the Shiny Treasure ex boxes are about as cheap as any box of Japanese Pokemon cards ever gets right now. It’s the result of both the overprinting of the set, and the weak Japanese Yen. It could go lower but I don’t think buying right now is a bad option at all! Thanks for watching 🙏

I’m primarily a Japanese collector and have compared the English vs Japanese card quality many times - there’s no question in my mind that the Japanese cards are better! So many people opened these just for the cards, so you pick up the BEST tools for actually playing the game dirt cheap if you just want all the extras 😊 I didn’t even show the burn/poison markers and the “dice” set that’s included - they’re one of the best parts but seemed literally identical between the English and Japanese versions. Regarding the price, the Japanese MSRP for this product is now worth LESS than $220 USD, vs the $400 USD charged for the English product. I think it’s pretty clear the international business just marked this up far more than they needed to but that’s just my opinion 😊 Thanks for watching and for the comment!
