Bus 190: Mission Impossible
Just at the bus stop outside Thong Teck Building, I had to skip bus 190 for 13 times before being finally able to board it at the 14th bus...1 hr 40 mins later on Friday, 4 Oct (Children's Day).
According to a passenger I talked to, this is common, and it gets worse during weekends and holidays.
As Singapore gets more and more overcrowded, this inconvenience will be inevitable, more dangerous (watch the whole thing to see why) and become the new normal of the future (actually now)...pretty detrimental to our overall economic and mental productivity.
Find out at the end, whether you agree or not...
*To those asking why not I take an alternative mode of transport & yadda dadada, here are my reasons:
The purpose of the video is not just about me per se. It's to show how inconvenient it is to take the bus of your choice.
If I were to go off like that (which I could), would any of you even know this incident is a common affair? Would anyone understand what it was like for the commuters who stuck through with me (esp. the Aunty in orange t-shirt) to know how frustrating this is?
Bus 190 has long been a problematic, crowded bus and it's time this has to be addressed (long overdue). This also applies to many other buses in Singapore that take the popular routes.
Also, consider those who are disabled, the elderly and those with children. Switching buses or MRT stations can be an inconvenience for these ppl, sometimes very impossible. With a direct bus to their homes (most commuters at this bus stop live in CCK and Bukit Panjang), it's a regular choice they make. Can you imagine how much an agony this is for them to go through daily?
DON'T FORGET:
Anyone who has filmed with a smartphone typically do not calibrate their smartphone lens to the exact focal point of their eyes, so perspective distortion does occur where by the distances between objects appear bigger than in real life (that's why ppl like u think I did not bother to queue or go up the bus), not forgetting the free moving angle of my arm that was holding the phone. Also, I had to pause filming every time i tried to board the bus (not captured on video).
Did I wave for a taxi during that time? Oh yes, I did indeed (not shown in video as focus was on the bus instead), and that wasn't easy since many of them had the 'Busy' sign on (it's a Friday after all).
The right questions you should ask are:
- Why should the incident even be allowed in the first place?
- Why can't people have the right to their first choice of transport mode?
- Why can't commuters have the right to a comfortable and spacious transport if they don't want to board an overcrowded bus which is suffocating and dangerous?
- How about people like parents with children, the elderly and the disabled who cannot afford to go through the agony of changing multiple stations just to get to their destinations (which is also more expensive)?
- If we just sweep problems under the carpet or use imperfection as an excuse, we will start to grow comfortable in incompetence and never improve. How can we even progress as a society if we allow this to fester?
- What rights do we have to call ourselves a First World country if we can't address such a problem like this?
Crumbling are the days in Singapore where taking transport is a straight-forward routine.
*Tip for SMRT: In London, commuters are allowed to enter at the exit doors and tap their cards there. It's an overcrowded city too but I never had to wait 14 times when I visited that place. Pls consider this option for us commuters.
BECAUSE of this viral video, Bukit Panjang residents were finally given bus 972 to ease the load. A smack in the face to self-proclaimed Smart Alecks who think that the best way to "not waste time" is to shake leg and do nothing. www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/morning-commute-improves-for-bukit-panjang-residents-with-new-bus-route

Annoying British kid screaming
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 16 lety
this was taken secretly from a window. seems like this annoying kid always goes out without his keys, and when he comes bk, never fails to scream for his mum...really irritating that it's been going on for a few days now
Currently in 2024 , which 971 got discontinued , 190 , 972 and DTL are trying to ease the controls , slightly better transport nowadays
well now 190 ok, 972 overcrowding
Demand for this bus is still high🔥🔥🔥🔥🤗🤗🤗
haiyo
It has been 10 years since this video was uploaded, and now ironically the DTL (that opened to resolve the issues depicted here) is facing the same issues, and needs 190 and 972 to offload demand to prevent going past 100% crowding
(600th comment!)
During off peak hours DTL is always so full lol, Dk about peak hours it was quite full once I rode but idk if it’s worse now
Coming back to this video nowadays is so interesting, since 190 still has more intense frequencies and downroutes than most buses, even though DTL2 has absorbed a good chunk of its ridership. Haven't gotten the chance to check out 190 on a Friday Night though so story might be different, given that DTL is also a 3-car. But DTL and 972 seems to have made things better for 190, and it's pretty cool what just one video can do

Wow! The comments are endless!
OMG! Those are the most crowded buses I've ever seen!
The people who try and force themselves into the bus from the rear and manually try to pry the doors open should be fined. I mean, if you manual pry the doors they can break the mechanism, and if they enter from the rear, got almost no chance that they will actually tap in/out what
Nice video 📹 📹 👍 👌
czcams.com/video/t0L6agtzpcA/video.html you made on channel 5
Too bad they remove all the mercedes O405.Wonder how they support this service.Tip:Bendy carry more than double deckers.

I searched annoying British kid and I thought I'd get tommyinnit
190 is better now
Near to 1k likes!
The infamous video that launched 972.
The BC shout to move back and no one listens. These passengers wait for a lot of hours just to get on a bus and go home. He BC shout everyone on the phone. If LTA buy more bendy and DD improve 190. Lucky they added 972.
oh my god
This is before SMRT create double deckers. Now it's much easy n better. Now have 971, 972, and so on....
Hello 190 is changed drastically over the past few years using only single and double decks and the passenger ridership has decreased
I hate British people
Why dont they use double decker?
Smrt in 2013 where have double decker
Thank goodness the DTL2 and route 972 exists
And this how bendy buses were eliminated
At this point, you should just take the MRT. I know its slower but saves you a lot of trouble
At this point, u should read the description b4 commenting
@@Galaxnite Sorry I read the description after I comment
6:55 The bus moved when Exit door opened, maybe too crowded so he can’t see the mirror..?
*They must have a DD Bendy bus..*
Why stop uploading???
MISSION this isnt a spy class
no double-deckers?
smrt didnt have double deckers back then
Wait till we hit 10million lah, u may have to use d roof of the bus! Good luck to so call citizens.
and to make things worse these are all non wabs
Whats the different with double deck bus and this long one ? Isnt it just the same? The double decker one taller but this one is longer. So techinically it wont make a different. Somemore double deck bus cannot stand on the second deck.
Spore too small.. its an island..
Wa langpa standard .we pay so much and this the cheyby standard from the so call high standards in singapore .vote them out and fuck you
Hey there Today... During Peak-On 240 and 246 become to worsen than 98 and 49 cause People who lives Taman Jurong and Boon Lay Place
it have more spaces
They should add double deckers for 190
ImACoolGuy HD got alr
Where is the limit 4 passengers in the bus? What is the LTA doing.Bus company just want to make money. Where are the safety measures in case of n emergency. Maybe LTA will say owner rowed. Prevention is best than cure.
