Hudson River Corridor flight
My first flight through the Hudson River Corridor in the New York class B airspace. The temperatures were well below zero that day as it was during a major cold snap in the northeast. The views were well worth it though. I can't wait to do it again.

Planned on doing some practice maneuvers near my home airport but gusty conditions made for an unsafe environment for slow flight. Had to cut the flight short as the plane was being tossed around more than I liked.

My co-pilot side mic jack was unable to transmit through the radio. My instructor needs to be able to transmit in case I am not able to or doing something incorrectly. This video is more a series of mistakes until I finally figured out how the plane was wired. My video editor switched to trial most of the way through editing so the audio is all over the place. I'll figure that out for the next ...

    Flare more, hold it off. If you keep driving it on flat like I see here and you will one day wind up bouncing the nose wheel and probably go off the runway wonder what’s going on. Land on the mains first and hold the nose off the ground for a bit before lowering it last. CFI CFII check airman.

Hey I know you said it was pretty cold up there but that heater should do his job do you take the cowling off March because if you do I would check and see if the manifold carburetor heat and scat hoses are all attached nicely you may have had one kind of fall down or is just getting old and Visken restricts or let out the heat before it even gets to you.

    Dude I’m having a problem with a old Cessna 152 and it had 4 wires. They were doubled and I can figure out how. . So I have a black red that was soldered together and a yellow and blue were also soldered together it could be and it seems like I’m getting a buzzing like a ground issue but I’ve never seen four wires little of 152 it’s usually just two wires coming out of the push to talk right? Anyway maybe I’ll make a video and send it to you see what you think I don’t see many videos on the subject so good luck and any reply would be very helpful . I’m taking my AMP‘s or OMPs I’m a little nervous it’s coming up next month. So if I can’t do this type of stuff I’m gonna be screwed. Lol

      Hey. Sorry to hear you're having issues. Unfortunately, I am far from an expert. This was the only time I did this and it was many years ago. If you're having trouble knowing what wire goes to what, I would say to get a free wire and some aligator clips and do a continuity test on the 4 wires in question.

      It's about $2,900 a year for the annual. Other than that the autopilot for some reason stopped working correctly after the GPS epoch. The autopilot vendor thinks there is a bad ground on the cutoff input. Also the canopy developed 2 large cracks which I sealed with "weld-on" #16 and #4. The cracks happened from heat expansion of the rivets inside holes that had been drilled too small. That's mostly it though. It's been a good, well performing, plane and I feel very safe in it.

      How many hours did you have when you stepped up to the RV?

    • @jasoncarter7971
      @jasoncarter7971 Před 4 lety

      @@reyesben I trained in the RV for about half of my training hours. I couldn't test in it thought because the testers weren't comfortable in an experimental. So I've basically been flying it since the beginning. The other plane I trained in was a Cessna 172. The RV is super sensitive on landing so it's not a plane you'd want to fly if you weren't comfortable with keeping on top of your speed/power. The issue primarily is that the max full flap speed is just below 90 knots and you want to be coming in for a landing around 80 knots. Plus the plane is super slippery so you build speed fast if you're not paying attention. So you need to be very on-top of your speed. Stall is also pretty sudden and you drop like a rock. Having started in it early on though, it wasn't much of an adjustment for me. Just feels like the way things work.

    • @reyesben
      @reyesben Před 4 lety

      Jason Carter that was smart to train in it. I have my PPL with all my time in Cessna’s. I love the RV though and think one is in my distant future. I’m also about to buy an RV 6A. Just had a couple of questions. I am also a student pilot. When were you able to fly the RV solo? Did you have to have your private first? And what insurance company did you end up using. Thanks. And I love your videos.

    • @jasoncarter7971
      @jasoncarter7971 Před 5 lety

      Timothy Wade don’t do it! Buying an experimental plane before I got my license was a huge mistake. It took me about 6 months and 80 hours to get my private because I trained on the RV and then had to retrain on the Cessna 172 because I couldn’t get a check ride in the experimental. Also if you get a terrible check ride person, they are going to go over that plane with a fine tooth comb and could decide your plane isn’t airworthy because it’s missing a placard. I highly recommend waiting until after you get your private. It also makes it easier to buy because you don’t need to hire someone else to ferry it. And it gives you more time to figure out what you want the plane for so you get the right one. For insurance, I used a broker based at hanscom massachusetts. I don’t recall the name at the moment. They deal with aviation insurance only so it’s not someone like geico.

      @@jasoncarter7971wow well I’m 38 hours in and just bought an RV6A. I did this because the price was right to build more time. I am doing my training in a warrior 2 160hp as well as my check ride though. The RV was a spontaneous buy.
