What makes this scene powerful is it shows you what's in Ragnar's heart without saying a word, and so many men can relate. It doesnt matter if your wife is old and gray, a part of you always sess her as that sweet pretty girl you married. It doesn't matter if your best friend passed away years ago pale and bald in life sucking illness, you still remember him proud and smiling in the sun. It doesn't matter that your first born son is a man now, taller than you, in your eyes he's your little boy with taxi cab ears with the doors open, full of curiosity and needing your strong hand over his shoulders. It doesn't matter your daughter is gone before her time, she's still your baby girl prancing among the flowers. A man fights through life carrying his love with him to the grave.

This scene isnt even about ambition, at least when we apply it to our modern lives. To me, it represents everything that could have been. If only we had the wisdom from our experience when we were younger-- we could have had the beautiful women, the happy family, and the dream job. Sure, we may have that now, but reality is never perfect and full of uncertainty, so its always nice to look back upon nostaglic times and think, could I have done it? And we know we either could not, or like Ragnar, chose not to. That is why i get so sad seeing this scence-- it encompasses all of my insecurites and past failures and makes me think about WHY i have chosen this path in my life

One of the “hidden” villains that we all got to love. His saga is trully amazing, and this part is heart breaking.

I'm late to the party with this show, finishing it soon. This scene is one of the best of any show I've watched. Only thing I hate is they didn't try to retrieve his body to have a proper burial/gathering like they did for Lagertha. Should have been an epic gathering from all the earls/kings/people to honor the legend who's legacy opened so many doors for his people.

Only few can really feel the actually real feeling what Ragnar is suffering inside her mind ,ambition and success does not really makes you happy . It's all about family . The power of family is stronger than everything you can expect especially for real men . who knows maybe I'm wrong.

im a middle aged man and this perfectly crafted piece of music, along with ragnar dreaming of home made me cry my eyes out and i make no apologies for it. Its just one of those pieces of art that was perfectly put together to pull all "those strings"
