This channel has pioneered DIY Organic Pools for those who would like to know more about Organic Pools or Natural Pools and how to make one themselves. David Pagan Butler is the inventor of the low energy, bubble powered Organic Pool and this channel shows examples of pools made around the world . He also shows how to care for them and how make various bubble powered devices for these pools. See organicpools.co.uk for a free PDF of his DIY Organic Pools Manual. You can also find the link to his full DIY film on Vimeo on demand "Make a Natural Swimming Pool".

This Pond is NOT Covered in Algae - Why?
On my recent visit to Findhorn eco village in Scotland I discovered this pond free from blanket weed algae.

This shows the complete process, step by step, making a really small Organic bubble filtered plunge pool. I am constantly amazed how pretty this pool has become and by the consistent clarity of the water. The total pool area is approx 2.2 x 3.2 m and 0.8m deep. A sauna and a cold water plunge is such an exhilarating winter delight you will only know the true euphoria once you have tried it for yourself and experienced the Scandinavian invigoration without going to Sweden. I made a sauna from old fence panels to replace my lovely sauna that burnt down.

I found your channel while in the middle of installing vacuum tubes on my roof. Figure I will end up with problematic amounts of energy during sunny summer weeks, shortening the lifespan of the system. Since the control unit got the option for a cooling circuit, I started thinking about dumping extra heat into a pond. Might end up spending almost as much money on a pond as I did the sun catchers 😆
Thats a certain vision of nature to have done it with concrete walls and plastic sheets
And this is why a pool costs $20,000
Thank you for sharing this incredible information. Any recommendation on size/strength/number of pumps for a "standard" size pool with 4 of these Enhanced Bubble Pumps setup?
Try pulling the inner pipe out, fish the zip tie, then slide the inner pipe past it.
lol When he lifted the plant and said "This is mint" for a moment I thought he was using slang, like "This is so fucking mint bro!"
Maybe I'm just cynical, but this is a just no way a 80W air pump moves enough water to filter that pool. Those hand-full of scraggly plants are doing nothing to filter the water, its being done by all the filter media and the bacteria in the aggregate would help with the nitrates.
I would NOT call this a natural pool. it's 99.9% plastic, concrete, and fiberglass. There isn't really anything "off the grid" about it.
I made a mosquito breeder, here's what happened.
This year Daphnia keeping the water clear, and a piece of copper pipe in the skimmers, algae dissolves pretty quickly! No fish in mine, two ducks and used as a swimming pond.
Congratulations David on the very well deserved milestone! Cheers!
My friend had a few behind his house. They are nice for a few months then what happens is frogs, bugs, turtles, parasites and a whole lot of nasties move in and make it not cool to swim in.
Wish i had one, ide be sitting in there all day.
Interwoven bamboos mats and untreated cork bark can be used in place to float without polluting the water. Glass bottle inside living willow baskets too.
Nice ! But beware of tires specially, they are very pollutant, containing reprotoxic and carcigenic cadminium.... Let's leave the polluters treat the pollution THEY mayke money with. THEY have to pay to manage the wastes. Otherwise every little paradize will become poisonous for every beings for generations. No ones want that for the next generations at least !
😂 using flock, thats funny. Pool owners have used that for decades. It's bad. Fyi, your pool pH os going to always be out of wack because you are aerating the water. That's science. Why on earth wouldn't you just use sand and/or glass media for your filtration media JUST like we've done for decades on real pool filtration? Sure seems like a bunch of nonsense going on with thos "natural" pool stuff. 🤦♂️ Why was it green? Algae. Hot environments with such poor circulation and no disinfectant will lead to this. Of course when the water temp and environment drop into the 75F and below then you won't really see this because algae doesn't have a good environment to grow in. Same as any pool. Open a pool during spring when temps are 50, 60, to 70F amd you don't even need any disinfectant like chlorine (liquid or SWG or any other type). Fyi, if you are feeling "chlorine" in your pool you aren't doing things right at all. You don't understand chemistry and proper chemical balancing.
😂 this would turn into a massive swamp within a week in our environment. Killed with bacteria and algae. Zero chance that the limited circulation and filtration/disinfectant would work. Also, adding "air" (bubbles) will cause increases to pH of the water and can lead to very corrosive water. Not fun.
You drill the screw trough the liner, doesn't water leakes there?
Love the floating plant island. Would burlap work good as a mesh? What would you recommend?
Bravo!
it's amazing how much artificial inputs were needed to create a natural pool.
That’s gonna be a cesspool in a year 😂😂😂
No

You could not get me to swim in that pond for a million dollars. Epic project tho!
Barry aint got time for nonsense
Like a huge under-gavel filter.
A beautiful pool. Lots of trees surrounding it too, so their leaves will fall in the water.
Oh to have the space for my own!
Hi David that’s so nice to see you- have pond very algaed up and wondered if there is a percentage areas that we could for with floaters? Many thanks, Tim
You're much more relevant than those magazines
Bro how do you stop brain eating amoebas 🦠 in this natural ponds without chlorine in it?
Great video, as always, thanks! I am about to start digging for my natural pool (after having read your pdf-book + viewing all your videos 🤩). Would you recommend to plan a little bit more space for the deeper swimming zone (and thus a bit less for the plantation zone), in order for a few floating islands to move around…? Thanks again (and when is the next Q&A? I love those!)
The islands can be put in the shallow zones and allow some more flexibility of pool design
It is such a nice video!
gracias david, buen contenido
I have used this and all other methods of algae reduction David recommends. Filtering through plant beds was a game changer, and adding Daphnia last year has meant that this year for the first time the pond has no algae.
No additions or questions. I'm tapping the thumbs up 👍 button to feed the algorithm monsters.
Beautiful David! Makes me want to get back to digging my own wee pond.
It would be great to see alternatives to (petrochemical-based) plastics, which break down from UV and contaminate the water and all of the life in it.
He covers them with burlap so they are protected from UV. Excellent point.
I agree it would be great not to use this plastic product but if it is not exposed to the sun then it should not degrade.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm planning to make a fixed planter island close to the pond's shore supported by small posts of black locust wood. If anyone one else has any ideas to get these plants afloat without using plastic: shoot!
@@stijndeconinck6417 Interwoven bamboos mats, untreated cork bark...:) Beware if locust doesn't poison the water neither by the way
Comment for the CZcams algorithm
love it. I am definitely going to put floating plants in my koi pond. even introducing moss which i have acclimatised into water
This is so beautiful and peaceful

So delightful to see you color coordinating your socks David (!?!?!). And another great video. Bring back Gabriella damnit!! (czcams.com/video/u0mOjLuWYJE/video.htmlsi=p-H8Pw0Um4sqaaQj) 😁🥰
Finally, a good use for old pool noodles
Good idea!
Спасибо David!
Great content as always! Perhaps slit one end of the pipe and fit it within the other end. Get a few "ribs" lined up and that style of pipe tends to hold together well enough.
Love this channel
