    I had a 90 DeVille the same color as yours with the analog dash though, loved that car, kept it till it was 15 years old and was still getting compliments on how nice it looked. The problems I had was a couple oil leaks which the dealer fixed, a radiator hose that went bad on vacation and a goodyear shop fixed with no charge for labor, a alternator bearing that costed $20 to replace because a friend removed it from the car and all the shop had to do was put the bearing in. When it got old though the brake lines rusted and cost $400 to fix. Most comfortable car I ever owned the seats were like an expensive sofa, could drive for 5 hours without stopping. I got up to 22 mpg on the highway if I did the speed limit. Sometimes I would think I was do 65 and look at the dash and see I had crept up to 80, but it rode so well and quiet that I didn't know I was going that fast. Doing 80 was effortless for that car, Wish they still made them like that.

    Kudos to Jesse to make such a big repair on the side of the road! Also Jesse, make sure to hit the 10 minutes mark when doing a video, as YT algo really prefers it, then it'll get much more views. It's how the system works! With a big job like this, it shouldn't be too difficult.

  • @944play

    Very resourceful. I think the spindle nut is one time use only.

    • @alexandrecouture2462
      @alexandrecouture2462 Před 3 dny

      One time use, but you won't find a new one, so you have to re-use the old one. Many many people have re-used the old nut with zero issue. The helicoil on the nut of a wheel on my XJ40 has come out, and I used a 3/4 inch fine thread bolt with a ton of loctite, to make sure it never comes out, and I check it periodically. The best way would be to take the nut on another XJ40 at the junkyard.

  • @alexandrecouture2462

    2-3 years ago, the X-Type Jags were still selling for good money here in Canada, but now, they are almost free. The reason is that they started to rust very badly with age, as well as the salt they put on the road during winter.

  • @PooyanDoozandeh
    @PooyanDoozandeh Před 4 dny

    Where did you buy the car for $500?

  • @senatorchinchilla5389

    Doing this job twice convinced me to sell mine lol. Valve cover gaskets leaked into the plug wells, fouled the plugs, fouled the cats and O2 sensor. I did the plugs and gaskets, a shop did the exhaust stuff. About a year later it started misfiring again, gaskets leaking into the plug wells AGAIN. Blegh! Best car I've ever driven in the snow though, 2003 with the viscous coupling. Absolutely phenomenal. Well mannered and tons of grip when you're behaving, RWD bias and just a bit tail happy when you're not.

    This video shows a XJR 1999 to 2003 can be expensive to maintain. Later cars had a better AJ33 engine. One they fixed the timing chains stretching issue and broken tensioners on later engines. But the body shape of the XJR and XJ8 had a cigar flat shape for the LWB.

    Thanks for the video Jesee; the problem I'm having is that there is a squeaky noise that I believe is coming from the tensioner pulley; it gets worst as I turn the AC on and engage a gear. Do you think it is the pulley? Thanks

    This is "normal" for the 1998+ XJ8! Jaguar went from a bullet-proof 1995-1997 XJ6 to excessive reliability issues with the 1998 XJ8! . Improvement did come about 2001, but still, the XJ8 was junk in comparison to the reliability of the XJ6!

    • @XJJesse
      @XJJesse Před 8 dny

      I agree, the XJ8 doesn't match the reliability of the XJ6. The plastic engine components aren't great, but the car is still a lot of fun to drive and it's fast!

    Where did you order your filter from? The one from the link you provided says it fits our jags but it looks different. Missing another “hole” on the filter.

  • @alexandrecouture2462

    So far I'm at around a thousand a year for maintenance on my 1991 XJ40 that I own since spring 2021. That's by doing everything myself! So the XJR wasn't that bad in the end, for so many years. Nevertheless, I'd still check the upper timing chain tensionners when/if the valve cover gaskets needs to be done. Adam of Living with a Classic has a recent video doing that.

    • @XJJesse
      @XJJesse Před 8 dny

      I'm not sure exactly how much I spend a year, but $1,000 does sound about right. It's great that you've been able to keep your Jaaag maintained and on the road. I'll definitely check the upper timing chain tensioners and thanks for the tip about Adam's video

    Ha, it's a drug alright. I bought first XJ6 SERIES 1 IN 1980, liked it so much I sold at a profit and bought a Series 3, $6K (such a beautiful ride), then I added immaculate Daimler Majestic x300 LWB,$8K with 245 HP (same as Queen Elizabeth's car (she bought 2 of them) for 5% of what she paid,) then I added xj x306 Supercharged ($8K) Another stunning car for cheap - such POWER. (300HP??) Then I added immaculate Convertible xkR SUPERCHARGED 4litre - $30K oh WOW! Chucked me into the back of my seat and doesn't wanna quit at any speed. total dollars spent.... not much compared with a new BMW. Never looked at another car since - still have them all in my CAT CAGE. Don't wanna sell any of em. Nothing else as good. (space, pace and grace). All worth more now than what I paid -better return than my stock portfolio. MANY good well looked after used jags in my country (New Zealand. RHD). But ALL who have driven affirm that the old series 3 xj6 (pepper pot wheels) is STILL the best ride out of all of them. All bumps just go away and steering is crisp and light - just needs good TLC. Keep up the good stuff xj Jesse.
