what the heck is this description XD Am I the only one who has Awake as his favourite Dream Theater Album? I know everyone is like discussing about the majesty and complexity of Images, Metropolis Pt. 2 and A Dramatic Turn of Events, but I think they never even remotely touched the special atmosphere of Awake again....Incredible Album especially the second half (The Mirror is btw one of their most underrated songs, easy Top 10 as well as Scarred, Space Dye Vest and 6:00)

honest critic for me, the drum is "prim and proper" it's like following a "written" pattern, calculated and strict. typical Mangini drumming. which is boring for my ears. welp, it's my own opinion as DT listener since Images and words era. guess it's also becauss i've heard the original drumming pattern which is aleady become the soul of this song. once different drummer fill in, the feels also become different. don't get me wrong, Mangini is great drummer. and he's already cemented his soul in new Dream Theater songs. and it's become irreplaceable part of new era of DT. but for me, both drummer (MP & MM) have their own interpretation and soul in their drumming, it became a two uniquity that can't interchange easily and can't easily satisfy my ears either. MP can't do MM drumming and vice versa (in term of the feels/soul)

Snare sounds off. Drums aren't up to par.

I love Mike Portnoy's playing, but anyone who says Mike Mangini has no feel is ridiculous. Those hi-hat flourishes in the bridge were brilliant.

I think this song is epoch-making.

Okay this is one of the few songs where I have to say I really prefer Portnoy’s playing far better. There’s instances where because of the level of technicality Mangini has in his playing it sounds almost like a machine

the guitar here is better than on the album They, at the time, were trying emulate the "Pantera sound" which was a hot trend. But nobody could perfect the crystal clear crunch like the Dime.
