I'm fostering an abuse case palomino QH mare ex rodeo mount that has been rough up badly by farriers. She's fear reactive and lashes out in all directions. Her current owner related stories of one farrier who hog tied and threw her and another used a cocktail of 3 tranqs which she punched through. Oddly enough she does allow me to rasp shape her hooves as long as I don't try to pick them up. To get done what really needs to be done I need a Tony Stark Mk46 suit. The mare's reputation has gone far and wide and no farrier in Davie Florida will touch her and given her past experience with a farrier I don't want my charge to be the cause of a farrier's severe injury or death. I'm 71 yrs old and don't bounce we'll anymore and she has connected with me a time or two because I triggered a landmine from her past I didn't know was there. In the 3+ yrs she's been under my care she's gone from being a bomb with a smoldering lit short fuse to being quite sweet natured. People who knew her from before can't believe it's the same horse. She's come a long way and has a way to go yet, but I'm in it for the duration. I'd really love to have Monty Roberts come through my gate and give me the benefit of his life time experience with horses such as the one I have.

I just bought a 16.0 hands thoroughbred and we are giving him a second chance so he will be at a good home with us. But he has some issues with picking up his hind feet more than front he puts out some pretty good kicks and it’s quite hard for a 14 year old to hold on to it is there any tips because I love him so much and I don’t want to give up on him as so many people before me have any tips?

I am trying a different way with my foal. I am teaching him to ground tie and to stand still before lifting a leg. It’s much easier than trying to hold up half a horse while it hops around.

The toughest ones for me are the ones who whip their front feet forward...so hard to hang on to! And also the ones who whip their feet away quickly behind and then kick out. I find hotter horses like Arabs and Thoroughbreds tend to do that more. I am also a farrier.

That was great. I’m a new horse rider and I struggle with getting some horses to let me pick out their feet. I think confidence is a huge part of that.

When you're training them to stand to be shod, grab them right by the end of the toe. Lifting the front foot, keep your head pointed toward the front of the horse and it may prevent you from being tagged by the rear hoof if he uses it to go after a fly!!

It's a damn shame that the first owners just gave up and gave him away to a second home, and the second home gave him away, and so forth until he was finally rescued. Humans have failed him too many times. Pretty obvious that the first owners who bought him just did so because of his coloring, and not taking into account the fact that he is an older stallion. I would never attempt to gentle a wild older stallion, they are far too much of a challenge compared to gentling a younger colt. For the good of your horse, gentle them as soon as you can people! It's important to get them gentled so they don't have to endure having such long hooves, or possibly suffer health issues that you can't fix because they aren't gentled yet. It's sick that he was obviously neglected. It makes you wonder what kind of people make a heavy decision to own a horse, and fail to do anything with them. Not even to feed them properly?!?! Sorry for my rambling, but this makes me angry. Thank goodness he was rescued and he can have another chance at a good life.

Hay packed, really tight into a metal wall frame (like they do at my barn) is very hard to pull out and it seems like it stresses their neck muscles and Poll.

Ive found a pair of pants and a shoe. When I went to complain he was laughing because a horse died from eating his food. I just left and never went back. Also why would you break up the food in the dirt instead of in the barrel they eat out of. You are just adding rocks and sand. Also that hay looks like crap....it looks like cow hay not alfafa or bermuda. Teff is the best if you can get it.

You are holding the hoof too high. The lower to start the safer the horse feels. In your promo run at start I see you bronc riding a horse. That means the time needed for the horse to be ready for the saddle or you was not taken and you are teaching a horse to buck. That's fine if you are a Rodeo rider. If the horse ejects the rider it was just taught to get relief of pressure by ejecting the rider. This can then become a habit. . I thought when I clicked on you were going to teach me something.
