@@RossBarnett02 oh reason I asked is because I have a second channel got past 1k subscribers and hit 4k watch time and both things happens almost same day so I got a bit lucky. Maybe when I hit 1k subscribers on here I won't be as lucky as last time lol

Heck yeah! Having gear you know you don't want to replace anytime soon is the best. I think I definitely would have stuck with the LH5P II if I didn't already own the LH7P. Both of those monitors are so similar it only makes sense for me to keep one of them.

@@dspoet1 1.) nothing happens. Function menu is a set menu inside the Sony camera and doesn’t sent over HDMI. 2.) nope. I’d imagine we will see this with future firmware update when touch to focus is released, but currently no controls over focus. 3.) no. The wireless go system wouldn’t be connected to the Shinobi in any way.

Try formatting your SD card to FAT32 or NTFS. Atomos is specific on how your cards are formatted. It should update instantly when booting up.

That would be a good comparison - using your phone as a monitor is definitely convenient. The only thing holding me back from utilizing the SeeMo or even Ninja Phone is just how much I use my phone when working. I'm always using it for notes, taking calls, texting other videographers - IDK if I could commit to having my phone as a dedicated monitor all the time.

Thanks for the comment! I'm seeing something similar, but not with any issues like you're describing. If I turn the camera + monitor on and go right into recording - the recording bars on the shinobi II won't show up until I toggle into camera controls for the first time. But, after I load camera controls once - the recording bars always show up regardless of which menu I'm in. Unfortunately I've seen some issues with the Lumix cameras as well in this comment section. Seems like a fix for Sony was a step in the wrong direction for Lumix/Canon... Hope your ticket can be resolved!

The "custom modes" dials on the top of the A7SIII camera. I have 1 set to 4k/30 with a 1/60 shutter, 2 set to 4k/60 with a 1/125 shutter, and 3 set to 4k/120 with a 1/250 shutter. This issue was resolved in a recent firmware update!

Not currently. Atomos has said they are working on Touch to Focus, but it is not currently available. As far as the issues in this review - the problems have been fixed in a recent firmware update

Tough call. I'm keeping both. The Shinobi II will be my main monitor from here on out on my handheld rig. However, there are rare cases where the wireless camera control will come in clutch, and the added benefit of having an HDMI out is a win for the LH7P. So, yes? The Shinobi II is a better monitor for me, but the LH7P will still be close by if the shoot calls for it.

not the level gauge, and currently not the focus area. Focus peaking is built within the monitor controls though - but, not having the focus area.

@@spencerfr1 They both have their place. But I will be using the Shinobi II on my main handheld wedding day rig from here on out. I’m still keeping the LH7P for larger sets when I need a loop HDMI out, or may need the camera control feature to be wireless.

I appreciate that! Hopefully the content doesn't change as the channel grows. I just really enjoy discussing the actual gear I use and the things I actually know about - which tends to be less technical and more practical. If you like the LH7P, but need a brighter display, I'd say go with the LH5PII - it's identical to the LH7P software wise, has wireless camera control , but with a 5.5" display at 2200 nits. I purchased one about 3 days before the Shinobi II release, and ended up liking the Shinobi II a lot more for my workflow. Working on a video about it now.

@@RossBarnett02 Will definitely watch your video.. I'm tempted by the Shinobi II but wanna be sure about certain things.. like powering.. I'm afraid to be confused. Can you confirm that you can can connect the monitor to a V-lock battery with the (non-included) battery eliminator and then use the monitor as a bridge and power the camera via the USB-c cable without any battery drain. If all this works, can you tell me what cable is used to connect the monitor (battery eliminator) to a V-lock? Is the cable included with the eliminator and can it connect in DC 8v to the V-lock (I find D-tap, too bulky). Thanks again man,

@@Superjeanmarc How long are you wanting to record for? On my Sony A7SIII - I do not have battery drain from the camera when connected to the Shinobi II via USB-C. I just ran a test with an hour and a half long recording in 4k/30 (Smallrig V99 battery drained 25%, camera + monitor stayed with full power). I would imagine this will run until the card is full (3hrs) or until the V-Mount + Camera battery dies (estimating 6hrs for v99 + additional 1-2 hours for internal battery). This is utilizing the AC adapter for the Shinobi listed in my Shinobi II review video.

@@RossBarnett02 With your test, there is no doubt that there is no battery drain if your internal battery remained full. Thank you so much for the test. I assume the guy that mentioned this issue wasn't using the appropriate cable. That can happen. thanks again for the hassle of testing this.

@@MrDawidson818 True, it should have been correct on release. I agree. BUT I think I give them some slack with this because no other company out there is doing it yet (wired camera control via USB-C to mirrorless cameras). I think if it was easy every monitor company would be doing it. So, I’m giving them some slack.

And....If Atomos can fix the bugs so quickly, why not to fix it before? Anyway...keep rocking it, great channel!

@@ShotbyCD not a necessity. Just, if you want to power the monitor with a V-mount battery or wall outlet - you’ll need to purchase an adapter. However, if you just want to use it with standard NP L Series batteries they work just fine as is. There is no noticeable delay with this monitor.

Exactly i am having issues with motion blur when using slog3 and lut. Atomos is replying real slow, 1 time a day. I feel like they released the shinobi ii too fast

@@AtomicPixel yes. With the way I shoot, I rarely adjust my camera settings on the monitor itself. I’m always handheld changing WB, ISO, Aperture with the camera and watching it reflect on the monitor. The Shinobi II is very fast with reading changes from the camera.

@@RossBarnett02 i have no idea, because i said nothing like that out there as of yet. All i am saying is the features in this monitor are already out there. They all do not offer touch to focus as of yet. So i see no point on getting something this expansive with no touch to focus.

@@RossBarnett02 unfortunately it does not. It works fine with my R5 but not R5C. Atomos said they will work hard to try make it work but they are not guaranteeing anything. With other C series cameras it does not work period. With R5C it does display controls but you cannot control anything except record button.

We've been following your journey with Shinobi II and honestly it was your video that highlighted the updates required, so yeah, thank you so much for letting us know and double thank you for letting your audience know we fixed those issues. Lots of reviewers don't go back to inform their viewers when things are fixed...

I've shot 2, 12 hour wedding days with this monitor (250gb of footage throughout the day) and haven't had a depleted battery at all. Granted, I wasn't continuously recording.. but, some takes were 30+ minutes. For what I do (multiple clips throughout an entire day) I don't see any battery drain at all.

@@ayeitsplo hmmm not sure! I just zipped the files, put them on the SD card, turned the monitor on and it auto updated. Maybe make sure your SD card is formatted correctly?

@@RossBarnett02 actually just updated it! yes, my SD card file system was on exFAT (Default). changed it to NTFS then formatted it and worked! (this is my first monitor 😅) Thanks man! Just Subscribed !

You probably won't benefit from it much if you don't already use touch to focus on your camera. I tend to not use touch to focus that much, so I'm full send with the Shinobi II. However, I mention it because it's the ONLY feature holding this monitor back when it comes to full camera control. And, the only feature where Portkeys LH5PII takes the win.
