Tony just saw your video obviously this is from years ago and I hope you're still playing music and still kicking ass. As someone who's a lot older than you who has been into rock music and metal since I was about 14 I'm now 54. You're right people do kind of try to take your identity I loved R&B music and never stop listening to R&B or pop or hip hop music. But when you're black it's almost like people draw a line in the sand it's okay for white kids to be all in the rap music but when you're black and you like heavy metal also it's almost like you're in the Oddity. I'm very sorry that happened to you at that concert I've been lucky I've went to plenty of rock clubs and of course this was in the '80s and the '90s and I never had any instances of racism other than I was one guy at a Bon Jovi concert and he was quickly shut down. But I've always been a fan of Def Leppard and Motley Crue and kiss and then when Metallica came out it changed my world and and then Slayer is always been right there for me. I remember hearing the lead singer of Alice in Chains talk about how when he performed in Spain and yes racism is a worldwide epidemic. There was a guy yelling racist words and he said he got right in the guy's face and it's not just metal Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish talked about how people would tell some of his bandmates that you guys sound really good if you get rid of that n word you might make it. The one true fact is it is music and music is for all people doesn't matter what the genre of music is it should be accessible to all people whether it's black metal or country or folk or whatever. Again I know I'm way way late and I hope this comment finds you well

It was a great solace to see the Black Rock Coalition in the late 80’s,& early 90’s with bands like Living Colour, 24/7 Spyz,& Fishbone. The aforementioned getting a lot of inspiration from Bad Brains. I dig a lot of metal, in a Pantera retrospective now,& like a lot of early Danzig even though I’ve heard he’s a racist piece of shit,..very conflictive place to be in-stay strong Bruh.

For starters, saying black or white power is the same thing to me. It's bad both ways. Also, I have never seen hatred towards black people in any place I ever went (metal shows, festivals, etc.). I've seen people joking about seeing/meeting the only black dude in the show though. It's funny most of the time. Anyways, I don't believe Phil is racist. After hearing him explaining the context, I understand the situation. It was still stupid and bad to answer to a**holes that way, and he acknowledges it. And adding to that have seen Phil in situations that kinda shows he's not racist. But nothing of the contrary. That's how I see these things. Feel free to reply, I'm always open to conversations. Cheers from France! 🍻

At this point in time, current day, I don’t care if he’s truly deep down a racist or not. Bottom line is he made himself look like a fucking dumbass to pull the stupid “white power” chant when people all around the world just straight up worship this dude. That kind of shit drives people off and it truly is his fault if that were to happen. I like some Pantera songs and listen to them to this day, but that doesn’t excuse him from criticism. I guess feel free to continue on letting everyone know how much you really know about Phil offstage or how you were there to “prove” his innocence. It honestly puts a smile on my face when I see black folks at a metal or hardcore show. And I would be the first person to stand up for a black person if they were being harassed at a show. But thankfully I haven’t seen that happen at metal shows. They always seem accepted with open arms. Btw I’m so sorry the big fat white person said some awful things. Ignore the ignorant. I just want to say first up, good for you Tony to get this out. Thank you for your honest reaction to Rob Flynn’s response to Phil Anselmo’s ugly bullshit. And I can also vouch that I can recall back in 2001, when they were touring for reinventing the steel, That he was spouting off passive-aggressive racist comments. It sucks too, because Phil is a decent vocalist and artist. But, skill and talent is no excuse for that much ugliness and that much hate. If anything, this just makes me want to listen to Pantera that much less anymore. I still occasionally listen to it because of Dimebag and Vinnie (may God rest their souls). And even those two were getting tired of Phil’s shit, which is why the band eventually broke up and they started damage plan.

I'm not a racist and I respect people who are respectful but let me tell you something about what you said about the white power/black power thing. It's not about who was oppressed and who wasn't, it's about being proud of who u are in terms of color, nationality, etc. why is it that when a white person says "white power" you take it as racist when they're saying it in a way of being proud if THEIR race, they didn't say "white power fuck black people" They're not comparing, they're just saying power to the whites. We have lots to be proud about in our people as do blacks or Hispanics, etc, I mean maybe not in all of their people but many in every race have done great things. And you said we need to diversify metal. Well the people in it have been attracted to it because of the type of people they are. Why aren't you saying diversify in terms of the fact that there aren't that many females in metal? There isn't, obviously, because most girls aren't into that type of music or obviously something because the proportion of males to females is off, just as it is with whites to blacks. Just like for ex., there isn't a lot of females in jobs like engineer or electrical engineer while there is more in jobs with teaching or counseling. It's not because of sexism, it's just what they're attracted to. Many times I've heard blacks talk about whites in such a disrespectful way but no one calls that racism(even though their referencing their race) because of the oppression crap you said. If you're truly a respectful person, you wouldn't bad talk about any group based on their race. And like I said, I respect truthful and respectful people, no matter who they are.

I think the only thing which will take away the racism in metal is if more black people start playing in bands and showing up to shows. Metal has anti-racist roots. You can go back to the Detroit rock scene of the late 60's which is a predecessor to Metal as well as Punk, and bands like the MC5 were members of the White Panthers, which was an ally group of the Black Panthers. As well look at Black Sabbath's first album, and you have the song Wicked World which attacks War, Poverty, and Racism in one song. Furthermore, Jimi Hendrix is a predecessor to Metal. All the early metal bands had primarily black influence from Chicago blues. Even metal today has more black influence than it does classical or Celtic influence. Like the blues, you have emphasis on 2 and 4. Like the blues you have drum sets, which were invented by black people. Like the blues you have more pentatonic scales. Anyone who tells you Metal has more European influence is a racist turd, who never took music theory or Ethnomusicology.

Any time you put a race-color before the word 'power', it's a sign of ethnocentric pride. I have a problem with any group, that hides behind bullshit falsehoods. Fact is, the Black Panthers, used threats of violence - to any white voter, that attempted to enter a polling station, during the 2012 presidential election. That? Is unacceptable. And is a form of oppression. Is it as extreme as slavery? Hell no. But don't get it twisted, there are black power groups, that are trying to silence, or oppress the white race by dubious means. Propaganda, is running rampant, from the far-left media, thus, causing a rise in opposition ideology. The fastest growing hate group in the USA currently, is white males 18-30. When young white males are being told they have 'white privilege', or to disavow parts of their ancestry? And it's really not the case, that they're even privileged, or have ancestors of their skin color(heritage) responsible for oppression? This is what happens. If we are going to move on as a people's, we gotta stop the blame-game, and pointing fingers. If I run you over with a car accidentally, I can say I'm sorry, and pay your medical bills..but sooner or later ya gotta learn to walk on your own.
