In Asian countries like Indonesia and the Philippines where I’m from, two-wheeled mobility is ingrained into the very fabric of society. In Indonesia, Yamaha has just released the next-generation model to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Dubbed the NMAX Turbo, the commuter maxi-scooter certainly has a misleading name, because surprise, surprise, it isn’t turbocharged.

The only upgrades needed are making the damn thing more reliable and ironing out all the problems, such as rubber seals that only last a year meaning your forks leak oil. And the battery that always fails in the cold to start the bike. And the keyless fob that keeps dying, and electrics that are dodgy, belt drive that keeps rubbing..... I could go on

Sad news about the 501cc series: The boss of ZONTES, Mr.Tao just announced in China that many Chinese motorbike riders have a negative impression of large displacement single-cynlinder engine, so maybe he had to give up the present 501cc single-cynlinder engine and develop a two-cynlinder 500cc class engine instead, like the YAMAHA T-MAX. This new scooter platform will release with a 368cc single-cynlinder engine first (upgraded from the present 350cc engine), and this version of new 500cc two-cynlinder engine will be delayed until 2025🥲
