Why tags instead of properties?
I use Dataview in a few places, and I prefer to use tags instead of the double colon for my queries. I also like using tags as I can use them to categorize things without having to create unique properties for different kinds of notes. I can also apply multiple tags in the single tag property, so things can have multiple categories without having to add different properties.
lol why is this all white video in HDR at peak brightness? Trying to watch this on my M4 iPad and practically going blind
Haha. The screen capture footage was very dark when I brought it into my editing software, so I brightened it up. Too much it sounds like. Getting that feedback a lot on this one 😆
let's go
I've come a long way since this video! Almost up to 600 subs now!
I'm wondering to know how you measure your increase level in productivity. I ask because for me, productivity is a way to reach goal in a more effective and efficient way. IMHO, Obsidian pull us in the Tinkering mode like Notion where we take more time fin tuning the product and doing the work. I'm wondering if Elon Musk use Obsidian to be more productive :D I struggled like you and I think having a dedicated tool that do the job perfectly for each task is best. Google calendar for calendar things. Things 3 for Tasks and Bear for Notes. That would also be Todoist or Tick Tick for Task and Obsidian for notes. I often use Obsidian for tasks but in a more project management way so Obsidian is not my day focus task manager. But having a system where we put properties and things like that for notes is in my opinion a wast of time and is more oriented about productivity procrastination than productivity itself.
How can i create a duplicate of this?
I’m going to be making videos on how to set up each piece of this system. I can also make it available to download on my website. I’ll need to make a few tweaks first, and then let you know when it’s ready.
These are some really great plug-ins and implementations I hadn't even used or seen! I hope you'll do more in depth videos to set these up!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I'll be doing more in depth set up guides for individual pieces of the system, plus more Obsidian for Beginners videos.
Please decrease the background music!
I've tried to that in my later videos. It can be hard to get the right balance sometimes. Thank you so much for the feedback!
literally blinded
Sorry about that. The screen capture was really dark when I pulled it into my editing software, so I brightened it up. Something for me to take note of in future videos.
😂 😂
is this video in HDR?
The screen capture was really dark when I pulled it into my editing software, so I brightened it up. Guess it was a bit too much.
I am new to Obsidian and this video has lot of good ideas, but I am not sure how to set this things up; like how do you set up bookmarks for today / this week (does it sync with calendar ?). Can you please elaborate or make video on how to use these plugins and queries that you provided overview of ? In any case, great video! (apart from the light mode 😁)
Yes, I know, I'm an odd one with my light mode 😆 I've started making an Obsidian for Beginners course, the first of which can be found here: czcams.com/video/PsIGWGiDP_8/video.htmlsi=OpxP5ZLIlSc967MW. I'll be going more in depth on everything I showed in this video, plus even more throughout the series.
@@creadevlabs Made my day! This is what I was looking for; Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome! I'm glad the videos were useful to you!
I wanted watch the whole video but the glare
The video was too bright you mean? I can work on balancing the brightness in future videos. Thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching!
This Is because it’s in HDR. And I hate that brightness boost.
Nice video but why would you use lightmode noooo my eyes
Haha. I am one of those rare people who likes light mode 🤷 Thanks for watching the video!
Dude... you hit the nail right on the head 5:07
Making the title and thumbnail always seemed backwards to me, and I learned from experience that it is (at least for me)
@@creadevlabs A lot of the stuff they say to do seems a bit counter-intuitive..
It does seem that way. That’s why it’s so important to experiment with different ways of doing things yourself and discovering what’s best for you.
Nice!
Thanks!
Way to go! I just got my first 100 subs. Two weeks since my start.
That’s awesome! Way to go!
Congrats on your growth! I hope to begin my growth soon. 🙏
It'll happen if you keep at it! Perseverance is key.
I think it depends on the person. If you started out with a good idea I can see where advice could distract from that. If youre like me, and you convinced yourself you had a good idea, but your idea was just a repackaging of something people could get better, elsewhere, then youtube gurus can be a helpful wake up call that. In my case, people didn't watch my videos because the content sucked. I changed the way I did videos, and now I'm fully monetized.
You're absolutely right. For many people the advice given by CZcams experts is helpful and leads them to making better videos. In my case, because I already had something that worked, trying to change it to match what the experts were saying kind of messed me up. The important thing is to try things out and discover what works best for you!
Your video quality is great
Thank you! The video was shot with the front facing camera on an iPhone 14! The quality of the cameras in phones is amazing these days.
Been at it for 1.5 years and still around 450 subs. The thing I ran into, was that I posted a video in my early days about sobriety, that I never intended my channel to be about. I just wanted to make self-improvement videos, but turns out youtube only shows my videos to people who want to stop drinking and other videos where I put massive effort in just won't get shown to a broader audience anymore 😄
I understand how that feels. My most popular video is about organization for solo software developer projects, which is a subset of what I want to make videos on, but it became the only video I felt was getting seen. Just gotta find that next great video topic that'll blow up your channel!
I'm an avid user of Obsidian but I'm sure there is plenty I can learn! I love your explanation, that I'm understanding some of the stuff I never got (vaults, all stored plaintext, etc) in just the first few min.
I'm so glad you got something out of the video! I've got lots more Obsidian videos in the pipeline. Let me know if there's a particular topic you'd like to see covered!
I hope to get to 500 subscribes soon!
You can do it! Just focus on ideas you're passionate about, and along the way discover what tools and processes work best for you to get those videos out.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
You're welcome!
Dude, after making videos for about 6 years and not even getting past 100 subs, I finally buckled down and started getting serious with posting and finding out editing methods and how crucial posting time is, and the growth I’ve seen in this month is insane. Just gotta keep at it, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

And so raccoons and penguins became NPCs, right? 😅
I'm definitely considering it! I did all the work to design and animate them, so it seems a shame to abandon them completely.
Holy shit the HDR blinds my eye 😂
😬
So this is how it looks like a professional developer does a solo project, I did write my personal project using Python and I am not yet a professional developer. I notice there is this called "github projects" on Github. I did use it and follows a tutorial by others on CZcams. I use it to list all the possible functionalities of my program does and put them a status of either "ToDo" which is not yet started, "In-progress" which is currently in the making, and "Done" which is mean it is completed. It was really my first time doing it, and let alone my very first project created using Python. Do you think the method i inspired from others and made to fit for myself was a proper one? Kinda have a feeling of there is area i am lacking, You knew like, i just write down functionalities of a program then put a status to them. I read a book about scrum and agile, by i think it involves a team. And i have no idea, you can borrow from them and to fit to your needs. I just realized how hard it is to do a solo project, this video really helps me. When i was watching it, i can clearly remembers the days i spent in writing my first python project. It is not so fancy or amazing project, but what i really love about doing it, is the process of planning and documenting, before start coding.
I totally agree what your process. I do the same thing and It helps me keep track of the project details
Nice! Many of the Agile processes are super useful for a solo dev even though they're designed for teams.
Awesome video! This really resonates with me. Especially agree with the scope creep, as someone who is guilty of that a ton.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I too have struggled with scope creep a lot, and having that main purpose to go back to has helped get me back on track so many times.
I realized when you talked about the why prevents scope creep at 5:30 and previously showed a mind map with the why in the middle, could one identify scope creep ideas by elements in the mind map that does not have a clear, logical, makes-sense path to the middle? E.g. "It should have a spread sheet program in my game" (which obviously is a what), if one cannot connect that to a how which connects to the why, could that be considered scope creep by definition? Anyway, fantastic video. I will bookmark this for future reference!
Yes, exactly! If something you’re adding doesn’t connect with and support your Why, then there’s a good chance it doesn’t belong in your game. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
I've been a solo dev on several large corporate projects and have tried everything you've suggested in one form or another. While not every practice ends up increasing productivity for me, I would affirm and support each tool and technique you mention. Your short video was quite an appreciated and validating experience for me and i might dust off some of my solo kanban boards and give it another go.😊
You should totally give it another try, and if it doesn't work, keep experimenting until you find something that does. You should check out my series on building your own perfect productivity system over on my website: creadevlabs.com/build-your-perfect-productivity-system-with-first/
In my current solo dev project, there is usually a next step that most enables subsequent development. I work on that.
That’s great! You gain momentum and ride the wave!
A solo dev here myself working since last 18 years.. good video.. became a subscriber.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks for the sub!
This is great! I'll be around, looking for the next one (and cathing up eventually :D )!
Thank you! I've got a few other dev logs I've made since this one, so there's more to watch if you're interested.
Awesome work man, dont let scope creep kill your project :)
Thanks! I think scope creep is even harder as a solo dev because I don't have a team to keep me in check. But I'm working hard to overcome it!
@@creadevlabs so true bro, I'm also a solo dev, working on a game. I had to kill like 7 games cuz of scope creep :(
Oh man, that's a bummer.
Coming together well!
Thanks! The next step is to tie the task manager and what I have of the game so far together!
Great progress since last update!!!!
Thanks! The app is starting to take shape!
Awesome video, I am self taught and the first year or two before I joined my first team my projects were a mess and riddled with bugs! Things I NEVER went back to fix, I just worked on whatever popped into my head. After working on a team that actually did "tickets/pointing", backlogs, sprints etc... I was able to SMASH out my own projects implementing this. It's insanely helpful! Again... great video :)
That's awesome! It's great having a process to follow so you don't get lost in the weeds, especially on a solo project.
Woa! As soon as I opened the video my screen went into HDR mode. Great viewing experience with a Macbook screen. I was not expecting to get HDR content for a simple productivity video.
I always hope my videos are of good quality, so it's good to hear that this one is!
Dude, that is exactly the kind of thing I've been missing.
It truly makes managing projects so much more fun!
Doing great work! I too have made the mistake of trying to prettify things before even implementing the core logic of how that stuff exists in the first place! Always a good learning opportunity! Keep it up! :)
Thank you! I've ended up in the weeds quite a bit since starting this project, and I hope to finally get the core functionality in place.
