Vintage Airline 62-9023A Amp with 1971 Les Paul Deluxe
zhlédnutí 170Před 5 měsíci
Vintage Valco-made Airline 62-9023A guitar amplifier. This reportedly has the same circuit as the Valco-made Supro 1624TN famously used by Jimmy Page. Sounds great clean, but the driven sounds are especially awesome, and the bias tremolo is top notch. No pedals used. Vintage 1971 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop with PAF-style pickups. Vintage 1966 Guild Starfire through Guild Thunder I Reverb (T1-RVT)

Quick (and kind of sloppy) demo to show the tones available from these two often overlooked vintage gems. The Guild Thunder I Reverb has a very unique circuit which involves a 12-inch speaker for dry tones and separate 8-inch speaker for the reverb.

A quick video of the tones available via this 1980s Fender Strat Plus played through a vintage 1965 Ampeg Gemini I. Most of the the time, it's just the amp with the volume knob at various levels of cranked, but the extra gain-y sounds at 1:45 to 2:20 and 4:59 to 6:39 are via a JHS Colourbox V2. Who would ever think this is a "Live Extended Version"? This is a terrible edit of the original "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" studio track. The brain-dead, repetitive loops are so unnatural they sound like a record skipping. The whole upload is an audio abortion. Just horrific. Also, I confirmed the poorly edited repeated loops in a waveform analyzer...so that's that.
Do you even like Elton John??? I think he’s awesome.
Great tone & playing! These old hand-wired Valco amps really capture that classic Zeppelin / Page complex tones like no other. Thanks for sharing!
The royer seems to get the highs better. While the SE is a little bit warmer/darker from the get go. Id personally want the R10 but for my use, seems like the VR1 is better. For an all rounder, Royer, too, for me. Thanks for this video. 🙂
also has a lot to do with the the mic location. edge of cone is darker
I like the Royer! To me it has more "depth" and "clarity". I may be biased though, I own the Royer.
Amazing playing!
Royer way------- better!!!! - Thanks for showing!!
Everyone of you have been trolled.
The royer requires less editing in post.
Thay are saying Epiphones are just as good as authentic? I'm sticking with the original. Just cause they are "The Original". It's that special Gibson sound, ya know.
I gotta find one to go with my Martin. The new J45s don’t have the banner headstock like the true vintage did. I gotta have the banner lol
I personally like the crispier top end of the voodoo.
Fair enough.
why is looping over and over again
You mean how it goes verse-chorus-verse-chorus? That’s just how songs work.
@@riffsvanwinkle this is the most low iq attempt at a fake “live” version you couldve at least used an actual LIVE performance to edit
@@riffsvanwinkle mk
@@riffsvanwinkle and btw welcome back
@@thomasglass7223 It's not only a live performance, but, per the thumbnail, it may be the greatest live performance ever and Joe Samm might suck.
Fraud. This is the studio version (although edited). Gus Dudgeon added the whistles, crowd noise and claps in post-production. Unbelievable
You are mistaken, sir. I spoke with Gus himself and he confirmed without the faintest equivocation that this is a real live performance by Elton that just so happens, with the singular exception of improvisational extensions, to be extremely faithful to the studio version, whistles and all-something that I’m sure an ingrate and faux Elton fan such as yourself would be altogether too obtuse to discern. For shame!
aliexpress makes fenders better than fender
Sure…
I can't thank you enough for uploading this live performance. I went to this concert with my dad on October 13, 1974 at the Seattle Center Coliseum. Elton played this song the night before, but didn't play the extended version. I had tickets both nights and you can hear my dad, God rest his soul, whistling repeatedly in the background. Listening to this recording was an emotional experience for me.
What bullshit.
Stupid click bait
Not clickbait. This video delivers like no other video on CZcams. If anything, I’m underselling it. I might change the thumbnail to include the words “IS THIS THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER AND DOES JOE SAMM SUCK?”
@@riffsvanwinkle First of all genius, this is from the original recording, which was NOT recorded live, it was made to sound that way in the studio. So do what ever you want with your lying thumbnail. Have a nice day
@@joesamm1190 please see thumbnail
Not only is this misrepresented as a "live" version (it's simply a reworking of the studio version), the song title is not even correct. The song is "Bennie and the Jets."
You are clearly not familiar with how Elton intentionally changed the spelling of some of his song titles on his set lists when doing special extended versions of those songs. Get an education and then return to this comment section to apologize.
Fake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure, Elton may have worn a hairpiece during this era, but calling it out like that just seems like poor form.
Excellent demo! Thanks for posting this.
This kid is going pro.
Wow... This is without no doubt just shameful, Clint. I am going to file a claim. I know the right people as I studied in the Court Of Law..
Copyright 1976 law, check it out, Clint! I bet you'll be wanting to take this down
I agree that this would be even better if it hadn’t been without No Doubt. Imagine Elton and Gwen harmonizing!
This is not a live version lol
I assure you that it’s live. People have already commented to say that they were there that night.
@@riffsvanwinkle i am a musician and i can hear if it’s a live version or not. This is studio version with an overly long intro
You may be a musician, but clearly you have the ears of a snail if you think this is the studio version. I suggest you listen again, but this time open your heart and mind to the improvisational choices Elton (or at least the human vessel we call Elton and through which the universe breathed the bulk of its spirit energy for the entirety of this nine-minute-one-second performance) makes time after time, the way he builds and compounds the tension with each successive pounding or twinkling of his keys. I dare you to so listen and not find yourself profoundly moved, if not irreversibly changed, by this raw display of humanity stripped of all pretense and presupposition. Listen again and behold for yourself all of glorious reality, yes, unadorned but also unobscured, as you stand naked upon the precipice of all that is or will ever be and in that moment declare without semblance of adulteration and in perfect unison with Elton himself: “Bennie!”
LOL you're a genius
Musico con gran trayectoria musical admirable elton john
sorry but those extensions don't sound natural. They sound artificial.
I think Elton is an excellent performer and did a great job.
please explain when and where he did that, otherwise it's just a fake .
@@raidpomerania7768 I doubt legendary musician Elton John feels the need to defend his musical choices to the likes of you.
@@raidpomerania7768 you are not a true fan if you don't know this legendary live performance.
@@dannyhightower911 Danny is a true fan if ever there was one.
It would be nice to have little green lights on the active pickups....
This vs player plus nashville..? Looks awesome in this color btw.
The plus let’s you blend the neck in any position and has a comfort carve along with rounded fret ends, this has a heel carve, those are the only differences aside from finishes offered, personally prefer the heel carve way more
I have this wonderful guitar. High quality. But the 2 and 4 quacky positions lose so much presence. It's like someone put a blanket over the speakers. Not a big deal, since I don't use those positions anyway lol. :)
I wish he would’ve recorded the studio version this way. Pure genius.
lol wtf is this
I heard a rumor that Elton was using heavily during this period. Perhaps that explains his adaptations during some of his live performances.
@@riffsvanwinkle why are you telling me this?
Ahhh yes. I was there that night

Hero. Just what I wanted
Very nice review! Thanks
Am considering getting this guitar. Really like it. It's either this or the Ultra. Question; When you are doing rhythm... does your hand smack the selector switch ? And if any of you have the deluxe ......... do you think its as good as the ultra. OR ? thoughts
My hand never smacks the selector.
I've had the ultra and this one and I much prefer the neck and pickups on this one and quite a bit cheaper
I have the Ultra and I recently tried a friends Nashville. Tbh it is all down to personal preference but I prefer the Nashville after playing it so it is on my wish list :)
👍🏻
Hi, have just ordered one of these, looks loads better with that pickguard, can I ask where you got it?
I grabbed this one on Reverb. I can’t remember the seller. Any mint Jaguar guard with vintage bevel should do the trick.
The seller’s name was Neagle Luthier.
Dude I just put mine in a bucket and blew smoke into it till it aged like they used to from playing in Smokey clubs. Looks sick Also added staytrem. It’s my favorite guitar and rivals relics I’ve played for 1/4 the cost. Plus hard case!!!
Solid demo of a solid guitar. Thank you! :)
This is just a drawn out version of the original 🤦🏾♂️
Right! So cool of Elton!
The 1974 Concert!
Any chance you’re looking to move this guitar?
I sold it a while back.
Nice Work Clint - hey how do you find the smoothness of the neck on the ‘58? Unsure how ‘sticky’ it looks....
Jeremy James I sold this guitar, but while I had it I thought the neck was great. Not sticky at all to my hands.
@@riffsvanwinkle Cheers Clint
Great sound. Thanks for the demo.. Its hard to tell in this vid.. Is the color slightly transparent or solid blonde?
I'm curious about the color as well ;-)
Bit late but I suppose others may benefit, it is slightly transparent.
@@happyghost6980 . It's actually a solid color. You cannot the wood grain pattern at all.
Own this. It's called a white blonde. Just like the long time butterscotch blonde, except a very white cream color, and, it's more of a translucent than transparent. You can faintly make out the grain of the alder.
Great sounds, love it! I wonder if that amp souds really better than a Fender one. Sure it is much better designed and built but the sound...? Did you compare?
I have a vintage Deluxe Reverb and one of the new Tonemaster Deluxe Reverbs to which to compare the Imperial MKII. The Imperial definitely feels more refined and offers significantly better tones from edge-of-break-up to fully saturated. And it is essentially two amps in one--a blackface (rhythm channel) and a tweed (lead channel). It doesn't offer the same super bright, sparkly cleans that a Deluxe Reverb does, but I think that is by design. The Imperial's reverb knob has much less range, which doesn't allow it to get as wild, but also makes for finer adjustment. The Fender reverbs have much more range and thus can get much more intense. The Imperial's tremolo will knock your socks off and its onboard attenuator is a fantastic feature that makes the amp playable in almost any environment.

That Pelham blue is beautiful
I own this guitar, same color and all. I freaking love it. I've always loved the neck pickups on these the most, but mixing it with the center strat pup is also a very cool tone I wasn't expecting to use as much as I do. All in all this is a great piece. Highly recommended here.
