Glad you found a good fit!
I’m so impressed!! Go you girl!
Did you make a video on how to study for anatomy in OT school? Currently in my first semester and I have a few days to study for tons of material for a quiz every single week
I start this fall and just sat down with my numbers...yikes! Im definitely following your journey for inspiration. any advice on tech while going to school? ie upgrading in the beginning? laptop, desktop, and/or iPad.what would you recommend and what did you use? any other tips you'd recommend while in school to save on related expenses? Thank you so much!
You’ve been with me for almost this whole process! I’m so excited for you! I used my 2017 MacBook Pro for school, and edited all my videos. I did also have the most basic iPad and Apple Pencil, it was helpful for notes, but not necessary. Don’t buy textbooks- unless you’re a few weeks into a semester and find you actually need them, even then, I rented. Textbooks are too dense, and become outdated quickly. I never used mine as a resource. Huge money saver!
Hi! How did you learn so much about personal finance?
I was fortunate to have parents that were very proactive about their personal finances, and taught us to save more than we spent from a young age. As I got older I learned about more niche topics like financial freedom/ retiring early and traveling using miles and points from social media, and that was kind of the trigger for me to learn more about how to leverage my money, debt, spending, and investing. I honestly consider personal finance to be one of my hobbies. I've spent a lot of time in the space from books, podcasts, and reddit forums learning a lot, I just find it reaalllly interesting. Hoping to share a lot of that culminated knowledge on this channel, and put it to the test by sharing my personal finance journey!
laughed out loud at "whoops im broke"
Might be my new slogan…
I’m a current OT student who will be graduating with a TON of student loan debt, but this made me feel so much better!😌
We can barf about it together ❤️
So they make these boot things. Might want to consider getting a pair.
I usually trail run 15-30 miles so boots aren’t practical. This was a short day out, and nothing an extra pair of socks can’t handle
Oh my goodness congratulations on completing the final hurdles to being a licensed OT!! I finish my capstone project in July and plan to take my exam late August, as I have a job lined up. I loved hearing what study tools you used and that you frequently took practice tests! The tools I’m using are spot on with yours. And cheers to a productive todo list✨
You’ll do great! Enjoy the rest of capstone!
Congratulations!!!!!! 🎉❤
Thanks so much for creating this video! I will definitely be using some of the resources you recommended. And CONGRATULATIONS on passing boards! I am sure it's such a relief to be finished with everything!
So glad it was helpful! Good luck!

@@sandradoingstuff Nature is pretty “wild” 😂 I enjoyed your post!
Thank you for this video, I am currently in between clinical psychology and OT school. I currently work with children with special needs in an elementary school so this is what helped me realize that I wanted to pursue such a thing. I don't have the best GPA though, a 3.3. I graduated with my associate's degree in high school with a 3.0 but I was able to raise it in University to a 3.3. I still need two classes, Anatomy and Physiology and Principles of Occupational Therapy even though I just graduated with my Psychology degree. I think If I can pull off two A's in these classes I can at least get it to a 3.4. But I still do not think it is enough. I just feel so hopeless. I have ADHD and had severe depression throughout high school and college so I was always procrastinating. I feel like I am in a better place and I really want this. I wish I had never done my associate's degree in high school as I was not mature enough to endure such classes but it was forced on almost everyone because it is an Early College High school. I would love to hear your opinion on this. I would love to work with children only.
Most OT school applications provide the opportunity to explain your GPA if you need to- but a 3.3 or 3.4 arent going to get your application immediately thrown in the trash. Recognizing that you didn't have the emotional maturity to handle college level courses as a high school student shows really good maturity now. I would use the opportunity on your application to explain what you learned, and how that learning will help you succeed in the rigor of an OT program. It's important to address both what went wrong and how you fixed it to be able to handle challenges in the future. I would cast your net a little wider than just one or two schools, and let your passion show in your application!
I'm with you-I need a creative area! Can you share what areas one can pursue who is creative? Lastly, what is the difference between acute rehab and inpatient rehab? thanks!
Congrats on graduating! Have you considered doing public service loan forgiveness? Not sure if you have talked about it in a different video but something else to consider
Thank you! I don’t think I’ve talked about it fully- and I think PSLF is an awesome option for most people, but it doesn’t align with my career or financial goals so I’m going to be choosing to aggressively pay my loans so that I pay them off in 5 years or less. This is a very privileged option because I am in a position where I can afford to make huge payments towards my loans, but being debt free and having flexibility in work are my priorities. I’ll explain as best as I can in a video where I break down my plan- but that will be my route (and it’s been the plan since before I took my first loan)!
Yay congrats! I commented a while back that I got into Georgia state doctoral program for OT and I just started yesterday. I was in the cadaver lab today for the first time and didn’t realize how sensitive I was to all of it and I’m extremely nervous for going to lab for the rest of the semester. Do you have any tips for squeamish/sensitive people in lab?
That was me 🙋🏽♀️We were fortunate enough to be still wearing masks during our cadaver semester which helped A LOT. I would put a little vaporub under my nose which helped with the smell. I also let more eager members of my group handle the cutting (I found that after the skin was open I was able to get a little more involved). I also made an effort to only focus on the area we were working on- if I thought of it as a body I was done for, but if it was just the extensors of the hand I could learn more. And lastly- it was helpful for me to remember that the people that donated their bodies wanted us to learn from them!
@@sandradoingstuff thank you! That is so helpful
WOOO HOO CONGRATS DOCTORRRRRRR!!!! 2 things: a) ie true learn /other practice tests - i pretty much sat right at 60-65% on everything and passed the nbcot no problem AND i personally felt like the true learn questions were ever so slightly harder than the real deal which was a nice feeling lol b) i feel you on the student loan dread, mine stop deferment next month best of luck on studying for your boards!! 🤎
a.) thank you this is the confidence boost i needed (I still feel like I'm gonna fail but WHATEVER) b.) ugh. loans. ugh. thanks for being here <3
CONGRATS SANDRA OTRL!! :) im so happy for you
Congratulations on this accomplishment!! 🎉🎉 I'm currently getting my Master's in OT, and watching your videos have been inspiring! Also, good luck on boards! When you're done, can you please provide us with a breakdown on how you studied and which platforms you found to be most helpful?
Yay! Good luck wrapping up. You bet your bottom dollar there will be a video on all things boards!
Was the loan amount what you expected before starting your OTD? Like is it similar to the school’s projected cost of attendance ?
For me it was less! (still makes me want to throw up) But going into grad school I had decided to only take loans for tuition, and work to live- so my costs were easier to anticipate because my cost of tuition was mostly predictable (I have a piece or two to say about how schools charge tuition but that's a story for another time). I ended up paying more out of pocket for tuition because I have lived frugally, and got a small amount of additional scholarships- I was anticipating over 130,000 in principle, and came in at 122,000 give or take. I do plan to explain how I budgeted for school, decided what to take loans for, and share my whole process as the start of my journey of paying off my loans too- so there will be a full video about all of that!
@@sandradoingstuff Thank you for the info and congratulations! I’m looking forward to those videos, I’m starting my OTD in two weeks :)
@Shytheshoreline1005 yay good luck!

Congratulations to you !@
What exactly is a “capstone” project and what should I expect from it?
Generally speaking a capstone project is a culminating project where you demonstrate your mastery in an area. For OT schools, it’s a 14 week experience where you dive into a niche and work in professional development, program development, improving an area of OT, or research. You write your own learning objectives (with approval from an academic advisor) and work to meet them over the 14 weeks! This is currently only for doctorates in OT.
@@sandradoingstuff thank you for this info!
I would love if you shared a video about your debt and how you plan/strategy to pay it off! Currently working on my undergrad. I’ll be doing a master’s program.
It’s on my plans! I want to have my final total first (but I graduate in 2 weeks so that’ll be soon)! And I’ll definitely be posting monthly budget and debt payoff updates once I’m employed!
I would also love this! I’m a first year MOT student currently stressing about student loan debt

@emilyau8023 Scientology OT progression. (Operating Thetans). Moving up OT levels takes study and practice. And a lot of money. I'm not suggesting the title needs changing; I'm just amused at my silliness.

Can you talk more about budgeting
One of my favorite hobbies- id love to! Do you have any questions/ curiosities I can address specifically?
hiii what volunteer or work experience do you recommend for someone that’s currently still in undergrad and wants some experience on their resume for grad school volunteer + work hrs ! 🩷 one of the graduate program i want to apply to requires : “ Documentation of a minimum of 50 hours of work or volunteer experience in at least two different delivery systems, demonstrating exposure to and understanding of the occupational therapist’s role.” im currently volunteering at a pediatric clinc ! with several OT’s 🩷and i was wondering if getting a job as a rehab aide ( i would have to get my BLS certification) would be a good option for me next ! to get experience
Good work being in top of this! I think being a rehab aide is a great way to get really good experience, I would look for something in an inpatient rehab or a hospital, since it sounds like you’re already logging pediatric outpatient hours. You’ll need your BLS while in school anyways, so it’s worth it to get (and you never know when CPR could save a life) A lot of my peers continued to work as rehab aides PRN (as needed) during OT school too!
@@sandradoingstuffThank you so much ! Many of my local hospitals are hiring for a rehab aide and i would love to get some experience in this environment. so that’s what truly sparked my interest in the hospital environment! Thank you so much for the advice ! 🩷
You got a lot of snow
The craziest part is it all melted in about 1 week!
I know and we have a lot of warer
I’m glad there’s so many OT videos because there are absolutely none for OTAs😅

@@sandradoingstuff you are the best! Thank you so much🥰
Happy to help! Plus we might be colleagues one day!
What kind of mousetrap is that?
It traps them alive! I think the brand is mouse hotel. In the fall we catch so many, it made me sad (and honestly it was super messy sometimes). We just put them in a bucket and drive them down the road 4-5 miles so they don’t come back
@@sandradoingstuff I 🩷 this!!🥹
Abstracts were always the worst to write for me even though they're the shortest thing lol
You have to sun so much up in such little space- not an easy feat at all!
Abstract soundin’ solid👊
What setting are you hoping to work in? I’m starting ot school in may in Georgia and I love the hospital setting.
Samesies- ideally inpatient rehab for me. We’ll see what happens though- I don’t currently have anything lined up
