Running Abaqus with User Subroutines
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 3 lety
This video describes the basics of running user subroutines in Abaqus. An example of the UEL user element subroutine is given to model a linear beam.

Introductory Analysis of Beams and Trusses in Abaqus
Simple Contact Example in Abaqus
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 5 lety
This video shows a simple finite element analysis in Abaqus in which contact is defined between multiple surfaces in a model.
Plate Buckling Analysis in Abaqus
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 5 lety
Modeling buckling in a plate using eigenvalue analysis and incremental-iterative analysis in Abaqus. The problem considers deformation plasticity (Ramberg-Osgood model) as well as linear elasticity.
Intro to Abaqus

This video gives an introduction to creating a model in Abaqus and works through an example of elastic deformation in a notched plate
great video, thanks!
Great help!! Thanks!!
hi, how can I model a moving unsprung mass problem instead of a moving load model on a cantilever beam in Abaqus?
how do I get the force vs indentation graph from the model you just created? i am trying to compare it to Johnson's model
at what point does the code calculate the displacement U?
Hello; I would like to ask you about the "orientation subroutine" in UEL. I have an anisotropic cylindrical structure and I need to define a cylindrical local coordinate system, it's easy to do on Abaqus, but I couldn't do it with the UEL. thank you so much.
Excel of this problem please sir.
This was useful. Thank you
Prof.Jeffers, Thanks for your helpful video. 1.With that example beam, I wonder if I want to plot beam's deflection and stress contour in color like Abaqus CAE do, How can I do that?
The only way to visualize the results from a UEL is to superimpose the UEL results on standard Abaqus elements
@@aejeffers Prof. Jeffers, Can we extract output such as nodal disp, stresses, strains, etc., from .odb file so that we can plot them using Paraview?
You can extract any data that you want but you won't use the ODB file. Instead it will be the FIL or DAT files. You'll need to read the Abaqus documentation on how to do this.
Nice tutorial ma'am. Is there any way I can visualize the results from 'user element subroutines' in ABAQUS?

@@aejeffers Thank you for the generous reply. Could you please suggest any literature or could come up with a video tutorial to visualize the UEL results.
Nice tutorial. I have a question. How can be defined the UEL in Abaqus, except the inp file? The UMAT, is defined by the ''Edit Material'' -> ''User Material''. Is there such a button for UEL?
As far as I know, the input file is the only way to specify a user defined element
Thank you 🙏
Hello, Ann, could you please tell me how to determine the number of "vectors used per iteration" during setting STEP?
I don't know what this means off the top of my head, but I'm sure it is described in the documentation
May I know how to apply residual stress in steel plates.
Residual stresses are prescribed as an initial condition in Abaqus. If you have a uniform initial stress, this can be done in Abaqus/CAE. If the initial stresses are nonuniform, you have to use the SIGINI user subroutine. Not sure if I can get an example up on this any time soon, but you may be able to figure it out by reading the Abaqus documentation.
@@aejeffers Thank you very much dear.
Hi how can I find the formulas behind the output results in abaqus?? To be specific I want to know formulas which the software uses to give the reaction forces..
You would have to look at the documentation (specifically the Abaqus Analysis Users Manual) to find the actual solution procedure.
Mam you using which software to record this video ? Thanks for reading my comment !
I record my videos with Camtasia
@@aejeffers Ohh okay thanks mam ,for taking some time out in writing the reply .Have a great day ahead mam
hello how are you ? I have a program in FORTRAN language and I want to do its on abaqus you can give me your email?
Hello, What an awesome tutorial. Thanks a lot. However, I have one question. Can you please explain how to link abaqus with the intel One API compilers??? Also, a separate question, is there a tutorial on how to write the subroutines in c++ and linking them into abaqus?? Thanks a lot.
Since the oneAPI compiler technically is not supported, I don't plan to add a video to show how to do this. Regarding user subroutines, Abaqus only supports subroutines written in Fortran, at least that is my understanding.
Very useful, thank you.
Dear Ann Jeffers thank you for the explanation of can you send me the file hamzadjaloud@gmail.com Best regards
Hi, it possible for you to make a tutorial video for plane strain as well please?
Plane strain analysis is done by selecting plane strain elements instead of plane stress elements. I think the rest of the model set up is the same.
@@aejeffers how to do it in a UEL subroutine?
Hello Prof, can you please explain how did you come up with a specific value for defining your imperfection as a pre-applied lateral load?
A pinned beam with point load at midspan has a deflection of PL^3/48EI. Set this equal to the desired imperfection and solve for P.
can you make video about stiffened buckling analysıs ?
is eigenvalue related with load magnıtude ?
Eigenvalue is related to the load magnitude, eigenvector gives the mode shape (displaced shape)
Hai.good vdo
i need interview questions with answers
Good content... appreciate your effort to make this video. Could you please give me your email id?
Good job.... expecting more videos
Can I ask why didn't you use truss elements for the given truss members?
I wanted to show how to introduce a release (hinge) in a beam
Could you add laminated glass design video
Hey miss could you post more ? Please Im a civil engineering student
Great video kindly upload more such videos
Dear Ann, Thanks for the good tutorial, I'm wondering if the result from final analysis which the imperfection and the material non linearity are applied different from result calculated by Static Riks method?. I guess they should be very closed.
Dear professor, thank you so much for the video. Could you please make tutorial" how to write subroutine for abaqus"?
I'll see what I can do
@@aejeffers thank you so much, professor.
