    While I agree with the premise that social media in general is harmful. Suicide rate was declining until the 1990s and what happened then cellphones and social media exploded. It’s increased every year since. It’s naïve or maybe just not well explored why TIKTOK is different than all the rest. 1 been banned by the USA military including Chinese cellphone brands etc 2 it’s the only app that allows its creators to become their own curators of reality by deleting comments and entire conversations. Here for example of you have to report it goes to a bot who supports or rejects the recommendation. This is important because it makes Americans/westerns who claim to be lovers of free speech prouve the only speech they support is one’s own… we are busy bees censoring our own polarization 3 Chinese propaganda - isn’t only about China good but creating disorder political bipartisanship, anti American values about race… 4 the spying is not about mass data collecting but individuals in the USA government bit anyone who has left China as a dissenter, Falun Gong, Uighur activists (look up Chinese police stations) thus includes punishment and execution by harassing and forcing people including family members to return to China or silence 5 India also banned TikTok and pretty much anything from China but India includes other pro Hindu morality issues so it’s a more messy topic Laowhy serpenteza do great video explaining the ccp and not the Chinese people are not just another social media app

      It’s more complicated than that - targeting is individual including going after U.S. government employees (it’s already banned for U.S. military) Chinese dissenters (look up Chinese police stations) who fled China to escape punishment and executions etc… but it’s also propaganda it’s not just China good USA bad but encouraging polarization especially in regards to race issue. It’s also the only app that allows creators to delete dissent entire conversations to curate reality… we claim to support free speech but China is teaching us only our own.

    This is the first video I’ve seen by you! You have really nice eyebrows! Also I will say TikTok may have wild short term content; but I was literally able to get five different medical diagnoses for my problems because the American health system wants to focus on one issue instead of finding an actual diagnosis. I literally have been able to get medication to help my genetic disorder and the comorbidities it usually has. I’ve never been so thankful for an app, because it took almost 2 whole decades before I was actually believed. As for the data mining- if the US can literally let all companies mine and sell our data, they have literally everything they want/need. China would have everything they want/need if they are mining data. The censorship over American owned companies is absolutely wild whether it’s news or people. They never censor the stuff that should, but will censor legal words for abu$e and SA stuff. Thank you for this video!

    Whatever happens to TikTok, here it's an important takeaway to never forget. Next time a politician (either party) tells you that "things are not that easy and take a long time" when it comes to solving REAL issues affecting Americans (guns, poverty, healthcare, failing infrastructure, etc.) remind him/her of the efficiency and speed in which this TikTok ban was passed.

  • @yakuza01
    @yakuza01 Před měsícem

    The funny thing is how these American politicians have used and will continue to use the platform to promote themselves. Biden's people already said that it (TikTok) will still be part of his re-election campaign. So IF the platform represents such a security threat, wouldn't they immediately stop using it. Also, if they were so concerned about its effect on young Americans, why is the option of selling it it even on the table (just ban it right out)? I really think one of the major factors behind this ban is the situation in Gaza. Stuff that is not shown in major American news networks is being shown through TikTok, and not from just journalists on the ground but also the IDF soldiers' sick videos of them celebrating while committing atrocities. So although I do agree with you, the reality is that the REAL reasons behind are ban are none of the ones you covered (still great job though). These politicians are well aware that this bans doesn't solve any of that. It's more getting rid of a platform they have no control over OR get control of it (hence, the sell option).

    Actually Jonah, if you even spent 30 seconds skimming the bill or using Google, you'd know that Tik-Tok isn't being banned at all. They do however have 9 months to sell the app to a company that isn't controlled by a government that considers the US (and the west in general) as an enemy. Not really controversial, especially when you consider that _NO_ western social media is allowed in china at all. So its totally not cool when we do it but just fine when they do it; rules for thee but not for me bullshit.

    • @JonahMadeAFilm
      @JonahMadeAFilm Před měsícem

      Hey Tyler! I talked about the ban not exactly being a ban and that they need to sell it to a western government in the video :) Are you suggesting that the world should adopt all the same policies as China? Different groups have different feeds. Its just popularity. Tiktok will show you much more authentic content in comparison to any other social media. Searching the french protests when that was at its peak hid any signs of anything pretty much in other social medias but in tiktok back in april of last year it showed millions of people protesting and police misbehavior etc. tiktok shows whats going on. Other apps are controlled.

      Thanks for the comment! My response to the ban is divided into 2 parts of the public reaction. A large part of the public reaction to this news was about how addictive TikTok was so that's why I addressed it, not that it matters really. As for a security threat, it is my understanding that under 'project texas' TikTok is already being monitored by Oracle and there isn't sufficient proof that China isn't controlling/feeding content to Americans as your suggesting. But I am open to hearing another side-- and also as I mentioned in this video I don't think my "security threat" argument is bulletproof.

    • @yakuza01

The Hays Code forbade certain things for very political reasons. Everything is political all the time for all of history. I like Shane Gillis, and the reason is he's doing it for the funny not the politics. Dave Chapelle is doing it for the politics, and the funny isn't landing. Ultimately what you're trying to criticize is group think and dogma. But, uh.... groupthink and dogma are conservative values. Not in the political sense conservative; but merely they exist to conserve the status quo and strengthen group identities.

Because the influencer was trans... A few cans, to a trans person, who made a tiktok with them. And then the conservative media machine went into overdrive and had people thinking there was an entire ad campaign with branded cans in supermarkets forcing conservatives to chug down rainbow colored beer. AI is a very prominent and scary topic. I think art has a soul as long as a soul made the art. One could pose the same question "do robots/computers have a soul?" If in the future, there were robots indistinguishable from humans, would you think they have a soul? Hopefully the answer is no. The soul lies in the human experience. However, the harsh truth is the world revolves around money, no matter any standpoint, there will be people and companies that source the cheapest to maximize profit. If Marvel could have Sora do all their VFX for them, I 100% believe they'd do it in an instant, they would not have to pay out millions of dollars to VFX houses, they'd get unlimited revisions, short amount of wait time, and they would keep all the saved money as profit. So while AI can be a helpful tool to current artists, I believe it will get to a point where it's going to get abused. It's already getting abused and it's not even close to its fullest potential yet. In the freelance music video space, i'm seeing more and more directors turning to AI for effects in their videos, they charge more for it, and they credit themselves as an editor, when reality is they are doing nothing. There are also plenty of directors who source editors for their videos yet don't credit them whatsoever. I think the harshest of truths is that this will ultimately be yet another thing that divides us as people, I can see half standing on the side of AI, and the other half on the side of Art, anybody who truly appreciates and understands art knows that Ai is not even truly capable of making art. I will explain further with my reply below

    • @KANEMADEIT
      @KANEMADEIT Před 2 měsíci

      The definition of art is "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power" Ai cannot make art because Ai is not human, nor could it ever understand what it's like to be human. It's like race or gender, one race or gender could tell another what it's like to be them, but the other could never fully understand no matter how well their description is. Simply because they are not that person. Ai can gather and look at all the information and art we have to offer, yet it just copies and rearranges existing works, like you mentioned in your video it can't create new things. It can create a new arrangement of existing things, but no creative leaps can be taken. Ai cannot have a soul because Ai was not born with a soul. It's only limited to what we allow it to do, whereas humans primarily are not limited to anything except the laws of the universe.
