Imagine if JCP and Komeito got in a coalition in the future 😂The JCP is so moderate I wouldn't put it past them. The JCP is the most moderate Communist Party in the world. They don't believe in armed revolution, they criticized both China and the USSR just a decade after WW2 and they are very pro-democracy. They are almost like a "Democratic Communist" Party, like Democratic Socialist. Very interesting Party in my opinion.
komeito=ikko ikki
I am Japanese. The Soka Gakkai are not ordinary Buddhists as foreigners think Most Japanese Buddhists are only vaguely aware of the Buddha's teachings. They are not faithful in recruiting and following Buddhist rules. They are loose believers like the Muslims in Turkey and Albania. The Soka Gakkai, however, are fanatics and are still hated for their aggressive recruiting activities after the war. But they are still influential in elections because of their large numbers.
Great stuff man, keep it up. It is such a joyful experience to discover creators like you in CZcams
How the Japanese Communist Party Survived For 101 Years
Efficiency in terms of time of getting legislature through is perhaps the main benefit from a unicameral system, making it important on the local level.
The audio is horrible. Please add official captions.
Good video, but the audio quality is bad.
Abolishing private property is the line between left and right. Komeito is not interested ending capitalism which makes them liberals.
How do the Komeito fare in local councils and mayoralties in Japan?
As a former American Soka Gakkai member who had their disagreements but no ill will, I'm pleased to see attention to this interesting part of Japanese politics
Surprisingly competent and well made all-around. Subscribed.
Komeito (Soka Gakkai) is NOT Buddhist it's a cult that a lot of Japanese hate it. and actual Buddhists don't consider them one of Buddhist branch as well.
I grew up with Soka Gakkai, my mom's side of the family is from Japan, and followers of SG/SGI. I didn't really pay attention to it 🤣 but I did always find it curious that they had a serious outreach to non-Japanese people, and really famous ones like Herbie Hancock and Tina Turner
without watching the full video, i think this is comparable to your christian democrat parties you can find in europe or latin america, but instead of christianity, its buddhist.
Awesome video. What do you use to make these images?? They really make the subject matter pop in a beautiful way
They're vectors, they can be made in programs like Illustrator or Inkscape
Soka Gakkai doesn't look Buddhist to begin with.
is this a re-upload? I remember watching this already quite some time ago
Yeah and it work when you do not care.
Great video
As someone who has always been religious (though not Buddhist) and also as someone who has had generally dovish inclinations I have long viewed Komeito as a good balancing force to more hawkish elements within the LDP. They sit in a really interesting place, don't they?
This was incredible, please do more
Yeah, I grew up in New Jersey as well. It's a democratic machine. And you have to pretty much tow tow a bit.Or you're never getting anything done.
Soka Gakkai are not Buddhists. They chant the Nam Myoho Renge Kyo purely for worldly gains. It is a controlling, destructive cult.
Love your channel!
I think it's important to also note that Japan Innovation (Ishin) and a few other parties, mainly Reiwa Shinsengumi, also draw support from younger types - just recently we saw Shinji Ishimaru, a populist who focused basically only on turning out younger people, place second in Tokyo because of this disconnect between the older political structure (LDP, Komeito, CDP, JCP, etc.) and the younger voters who don't feel like they have any sort of impact
Great video, my one issue is that you made it seem like Kokka (State) Shintō represents all of Shintō. The divinity of the Emperor was a doctrine of State Shintō, not the religion as a whole. Shintō is very diverse with many sub-faiths and sects, so I find it disappointing that it continues to be misrepresented.
I was about to say that this goes without saying but then I stepped back a bit and thought, no actually it doesn't. I think that was the issue too with the uploader. For us who enjoy Japanese culture and learning about it, we of course know "Bushido" of WW2 and the "State Shintoism" were fradulent corruptions to justify imperialism, but these vids are made for the general public. So he should have mentioned this, yeah.
Japanese politics explained by Kermit the frog
All your videos are very good! Thanks for all you do! Underrated for sure!
The anti CCP communists vs the pro CCP religious party... Damn
Politically speaking, the Komeito is kind of the "party of nobody" in my experience, the Japanese answer to the LibDems.
Centering your party around a religion is a great way to get a stable base. Thats also why personality cults are so effective.
Interested video, but I found your map of Europe very jarring lol. Why are Sicily, Britain and Ireland gone? And Brittany seems to have been chopped off France haha
Vive la Bretagne libre !
Well, before in 1999 Komeito is a opposition who coalition with New party japan(the leader is Hosokawa clan guy) and others parties Fun fact, that Hosokawa clan guy who set 1994 Electoral reform as his last objection, then he resigned
great video! could you cover Indonesian politics next? I think it's interesting how Indonesian politics is basically a real life Game of Thrones
Sounds like socialists using religion as a means to an end to me, the North Vietnamese did similar things..
☠️
One of the few true socialist parties out there, the JCP's commitment to pacifism is a sight to behold - even alt history mods in HOI4 rarely have the JCP as the one spearheading any armed struggles
日本共産党はガン、私は日本第一党の方が好き、社会主義者や共産主義者はクソだ。
Tht's a grat video. Very good overview
Be aware that religious denominations in Japan have really, really loose definitions of membership. They are likely much smaller than they claim.
Yes very low, Japan doesn't even have a female Prime Minister yet! The rest of the world has many female leaders.
Well, South Korea's recent female leader (a daughter of a military dictator) turned out to be a dangerous nutjob influenced by a Christian cult other than the Unification Church.
Hey! This is really good. Just having looked at the description, I think maybe audio levels could be a little better? Your voice is sometimes not clear. Thanks for your work!
Really interesting video, appreciate the content
Komeito reminds me of christian democrats
is voter apathy a studied aspect of the LDP's domination of japanese politics?
There have been studies on voter non-participation being a part of the LDP success yes. And there have been several reforms including the ones in 1994 to encourage the creation of a more two party system as well as the more recent lowering the Japanese voting age to 18 to encourage people to vote. But it hasn't really resulted in a drastic political change or drastically more political engagement. But the LDP were also out of power for a few years from 2009-2012 so the situation is always changing
As someone from New Jersey, this is literally the tip of the outer shell of the iceberg . While we have many good services, our politicians are notoriously corrupt
