Scott Spiers, MA, LCAS, CCS is the founder and Editor-at-large for Clean and Sober Stoner. He's a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist and Clinical Supervisor in North Carolina and has made use of music and Music Therapy in his clinical practice for over 18 years. He is also in long-term recovery from alcohol, cannabis, and methamphetamine. Scott claims that "heavy metal and heavy music has had more impact on my addiction recovery than AA, NA, or any therapy I've had over the years."
Jipsy Froud is a reading and writing tutor and marketer in Modesto, California. She is earning a BA in English, Writing For New Media. The first year of her life was when she was exposed to prog rock, metal, blues, psychedelic rock and more while cradled in her dad’s arms. She never got over it. She's also the bass player and a vocalist for the emerging Heavy Metal, Stoner/Doom band Catapult Collision

Oh God may body is very, very ready for this video. After reading Mick Wall's absolutely atrocious and laughably biased Black Sabbath biography a few months ago, I am hungry for the Black Sabbath story from a writer I respect. I can totally confirm that when we get paid our little bit after a show it goes right into buying merch from the other bands we played with. The infamous circular economy! Someone once said your first fans are gonna be current or former musicians themselves and I've found that really true. At the very least most folks that come out to shows of new bands play an instrument themselves and are constantly searching for new stuff. We may not be a huge audience in this scene, but if anything the fans are dedicated, and the musicians are open easy to talk to and always down to collaborate. It's a really supportive place.
Do you have any sense of the other scenes like Death Metal? Are they similar?
@@cleanandsoberstoner1 oh my goodness. I have SO much to say about this =) The tech death scene is ESPECIALLY welcoming. I was just a geek and the guys from Allageon and Paladin chatted with me after their show in upstate NY. I signed up for guitar lessons after seeing Paladin live and being so inspired by Taylor's story and I sent him a fan letter telling him the story about my inspiration and he responded legitimately in a heartfelt way. tech death musicians are humongous marshmallows and I love them. The guys from Inferi are also especially sweet and though they would never remember me they left an amazing impression on me too.
I can ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tell how good the music will be judging by the quality and style of the album art.
The art is so important! I've seen album art kill a great album, which sucks
