People can think what they like we love meggies ❤
Other aircraft on the bench was an English Electric Lightning.Poor old Cleethorpes.
Sea front sea air.❤ wish the roads could be pedestrian with trees ant plants, near to beaches, would make the beach/ town more pleasant
Hii!!! wow, you have an amazing content! Good edition and superb information! ✌🏼 Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words
When you said you had travelled from Northampton. 😂😂😂
I been for last rew years stay haven camping .all you want nice restaurants pubs clubs and now been money spent .theme park for kids shops etc
how many nights was the hotel with the costs
As a kid in the late 1850;s I often went from my home town of Scunthorpe to Cleethorpes for many a dy trip. I back then thought that Seaside railways stations were next to the beach as in Cleethorpes.I left Scunthorpe in the mid to late 1960 and I think the last time i was there was 1966. I now live in Essex (Brentwood) and Southend Victoria station is about a mile from the sea.
13:30 love the rip off Britain sticker there. Crooked council.
We went to Cleethorpes a few years back (Summer just before pandemic) as we had to pick up some scaffold parts from Grimsby and found it ok, the fish and chips were fine and not too expensive and we tried a couple of bars on the front which again reasonable price, not a rip off like some seaside resorts😎 Gaz Yorkshire coast. June 2024
It used to be wonderful before it had that dreadful phase of so called improvements! Modernisation can be ruination! I particularly loved an out door lido as a kid. It was a seawater one with stepped seating and on the front. The walks along the prom looked inviting with well kept gardens and little lace curtained cafes sold cuppas with saucers and tables had pretty cloths. The teas on offer were sandwiches such as egg and cress freshly made and assorted cakes and pastries, again hand made. A lot of hard work and thoroughness was the reason it was so special, and the shops behind the front were smart and well stocked, an inviting temptation for shoppers and browsers.
Did you miss the Poachers Memorial Bench and you from Northampton...
It seems I did, I'll try to look out for it next time
I live nearer, they are good for the respect to the forces, otherwise f'all, it's all closing down, even the sand has buggered off.
Weston Super Mare is far worse!🤔
maybe a future video?
Watch lots of these types of videos. I think we have forgotten about many of our traditional holiday resorts. Many simply need investment and a rethink about how to make them appeal to the new generation.
100%, we should revive the staycation
Spent quite some time working in nearby Immingham and staying in Cleethorpes back in the 80s and 90s. It was a great place. Plenty of nightlife, the locals knew how to have a great time without any trouble. Every night (almost) was a party. Happy days!
I like Cleethorpes. Regards from Germany to Clee.
I love Germany too, great beer blonde!
@@travellingveteran Thank you for your video. It is nice to see all those places where I have been, Cleethorpes as well as Grimsby. It gave me many memories, good memories. Have you heard about the organized public discussion in Grimsby. It is about possibilities for developing and growing the area. It has already started. Have a good time at the Armed Forces Day. Unfortunately, I will not be there. And a big thanks to everyone who gave me a warm welcome.
Omg they guy you talk to, Roger is my dad,🙈🤣
He was a nice fella, hope you've told him he's now famous!
FYI, its flat cause this is the worlds capital for spirt level calibrations. LOL
hahaha
Honestly mate, its not that bad...............be honest.
I quite liked my stay so yes you are correct, it doesn't deserve the label
Shame I missed you. You should pop back for a picnic on the beach with the deckchairs, etc.
I'll be back for Armed Forces Day
Thanks for doing Cleethorpes proud
I take no credit, the credit goes to the people!
Haha...i saw you at the ice cream mural...i pulled up in a little blue car 🤣 if i known it was you i would of said hello....ive lived in Clee all my life and i wouldnt want to live anywhere elts...love it here...Subbed 😁
Morecambe is pitiful.
Try the RNA next door to the RAFA club all veterans and civilians are welcome and do not need to be members we always welcome everyone into our club.
I will be sure to pop in during Armed Forces weekend
Grimsby is only separated from Cleethorpes by a road 😊Someone from Grimsby is a Grimbarian,Cleethorpes a meggie 😊
thank you for the information
Hello! Local resident here!! For families there are arcades, boating lake, cinema, tenpin bowling, indoor play centre, donkey rides (!), leisure centre and the steam train (did you miss this??!!); this is apart from the activities laid on at the holiday parks (at the end of the beach, where those lovely people were recommending you walk), though you have to stay there to get in. There is an open top bus that goes along the seafront all the way to the parks during the summer too. Meridian Park (just next to the Signal Box Inn you visited) often has events on throughout the year too - fairs and gigs etc. Cleethorpes is a great family friendly resort and it's cheap too! A good Sunday lunch on the promenade can be had for around £9 (The Punch Bowl), top class fish and chips for around the same price (see Ernie Becketts and Steels in the Market Square). Don't be put off by the negative press peeps! Welcome to Cleethorpes!!
And how did I forget, there are 12 (I think) mini golf courses and a an open air paddling pool (at the back of the boating lake, next to the beach).
Exactly, I only touched the surface, you're proof that there is more to do in Cleethorpes than meets the eye, thank you for your comment
@@travellingveteran You are most welcome! I hope you enjoy your return visit for Armed Forces Day too - the crowds can be huge, the atmosphere is wonderful!
You will enjoy the Armed Forces Weekend fella. It's usually buzzing. If you're up for a longer walk , can take a hike to Tetney Lock. Nice pub there which does awesome food. Used to go down there as kid and back but last time, I was too knackered to walk back. Fortunately, my aunt lives that way. There is a bus but it doesn't run very often. Nowt much in Grimsby but there's a great museum in under the Town Hall and the fishing Heritage museum is worth a look. Cleethorpes (or Meggies as we call it) is much maligned but as that fella said, it's not a bad looking place. Shame, some people want to destroy things though. Steels is one of the most popular Fish ''n' chip places. It's like walking back to the 60s. There are plenty of other choices though. For brekkie, Browns has always been good value for money.
Unfortunately due to my arthritis I can't walk that far. Thanks for the recommendations
Was a LIghning
Yeah, it's a sh1te hole. Im form Grimsby and it makes Grimsby slightly bearable but still a dive. Zero money, zero jobs, zero respect. Zero hope.
PS you came on a sunny day. It's a look more miserable when the suns not out. You'll definitely get a different reaction from locals 😂
Heard you didn't get in the RAFA club. So snobby in there - and I'm an ex airman. Navy club next door is really friendly.
Yeah, as you said it's the same story for all these resorts over the UK obviously the biggest factor was the package holidays in the 70s/80s, but the biggest culprit for the neglect and allowing them to fall into such disrepair is the local councils.. They seem to have plenty of money to invest in hairbrained stupid schemes that will attract no-one whatsoever but ignore the real problems and allow them to fester beyond repair
I totally agree!
Brings back a few memories from ‘95 !!!
The moment you gave a trigger warning I stopped watching. Stop treating people like children
Then unsubscribe! I respect and have forethought to people with PTSD. That's why the warning was there!
The Venus steak house was Futher down the road, now Nandos, George ran it for many years, had some great times in there.
Yes, a few people have said that, it wouldn't be the first time I'd got something wrong! Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching
No problem enjoyed the video
Wasn't Venus further down...nice to give St B's a mention btw - Yemsy
No, that was definitely Venus, I remember, nice to have you here mate 👍 Thanks for your comment
...oh, and did you know that Nevio who runs Pellicci's was a St. Bernard's boy...you probably did lol
No, never knew that, but I did know that The Krays went there too!
I was half expecting you to pull out your MFT and do a few tests. I’m wondering how long your wonder lead would need to be to do an earth test 😂
Great video Dean and it's nice to see Phill after all these years (Korea Plt Feb 1995) I recently reached out to my first section commander: Cpl S Hayter PWRR to thank him for all that he did for me. He was a very firm but extremely fair, approachable leader. As a 16 year old recruit this guy was the first real inspirational male character in my life. He was as strong as an ox and always carried far more weight than us recruits. S Hayter helped inspire me to grow into the adult I aspired to be aided by some strong leaders within Battalion. Thanks again for the walk down memory lane. Keep Attacking Phill 🟥🟨
What a great comment, yes Phill maybe didn't realise it but he had an enormous part to play in my life after joining the Army, giving me the grit and determination to get through the problems faced during my tours. Thank you for commenting and look forward to hearing from you again. Dean, Travelling Veteran.
This brought back some memories. Stayed here for 3 nights in 2016. They gave us a room without a window when checking in and this was a cock-up on their part. That room was grim and had probably been a storage room/accommodation for staff originally I’d imagine. Not really fit for paying guests. I’d definitely booked a room with a window but the first member of staff who dealt with us wasn’t helpful at all and insisted no other rooms available. However, after 1 night we showed the booking confirmation to another member of staff, who was very apologetic and put us in a nicer room with a window. The second room’s decor was-much like room 819 but the bath was just a standard one. I remember thinking the gym and pool were decent.
This rally was in September wasn't it? Or is this another one?
it was in September - October
Yes now I have watched the earlier videos in the series I can see the car. Mate of mine bought some of them for scrap - the Tucson, C2, 406, Corsa and I know the Corolla is still alive and well in a car park in Gib!! Its a great adventure you do, must be fun!!!@@travellingveteran
UV light test at 9:30. Crime scene at 11:30.
Well that's me watched them all and you blew it out of the park pal and at the end that was raw heart felt footage can't wait to see you on next years UK rally with Doner
Dean thank you for all the videos and pictures & especially your final story Absolute respect brother and proud to have been on the rally with you respect
Another fantastic video Dean love what Benidorm offers first time there next April
Dean loving these videos can't wait to see what you do for us next year
Not quite right about the Reliant Robin, Reliants have always been 4S. The BOND micro car series were 2S. Reliant engine size evolved from an early Austin side valve 750 to a 600ohv, a 700, a 750 and lastly an 850. OHV units were entirely Reliant produced. All alloy cast block & head. I think output rated at circa 35 to 38 bhp
Absolutely brilliant bringing back the memories I wish we were all still on it
Loving the drone footage
Quality video mate
well done lads
Cheers mate
