This is a really useful review of Lion & Dragon RPG! Thanks for do this. Could you also review Dark Albion?
In mideval days there was no Catholic church yet, or what he loves in his books rifles either. So I'm happy with a game system that combines the best of 4AD, DCC, D&D and Dungeon World all in 1 TTRPG. This TTRPG I love is called D100 Dungeon by Martin Knight!
Its design philosophy, in terms of viewing magic the way the people of the time would of viewed it, reminds me of the old computer RPG Darklands.
If you're going to run an Arthurian game you should really just use Pendragon.
I’m quite happy to say I don’t like modern D&D [5e I’m looking at you] I think it’s absolutely awful. Great thing about Glorantha, you actually have a bunch of choices of systems to run it with [Runequest, of course, but also Heroquest, and 13th age Glorantha], and as this set is actually rules neutral, you conceivably run it using a flexible modular system, like GURPS or Savage Worlds, for example. [though you would have to put in some work]. Glorantha is an amazing setting.
Nice review. The Arthurian period was well before the middle ages. It was called Dark ages and it was what emerged from the fall of the late Roman empire.
False. The Arthurian age doesn't exist and the stories span centuries and apply late Medieval values and culture to past times.
I think you feel about 5th edition (which I think is the best version of D&D) as I do about 2nd edition (the absolute worst version of D&D and for me doesn't exist) followed by 4th edition (more crap) . Unlike most people I love trying new games. I have many rpgs. Unfortunately I just collect them nowadays. Haven't played in years for many reasons and none of them are because I don't want to. My top 5 favorite rpgs doesn't include D&D at all. But, I'm rambling. Thanks for the video. I appreciate it greatly.
This isn't worth the price they ask for, terrible quality of painting overall. This market is too expensive and so low in quality!
Was glad to see such an informative video on the system. Would love to interview you for our podcast sometime down the when we relaunch. Keep up the great work, more players should branch out and check out other systems, settings and genres within TRPGs.
Another benefit of playing different games is that "smaller" games tend to attract more role-playing-focused players. There is a hack and slash bias in role-playing culture right now, like there is an IPA bias in beer. None of that is wrong, but it just happens to not be what a lot of people are looking for. RQ strikes me as a game that has all of the fun of combat without the completely endless layers of crunch in Pathfinder. As you say, BRP is intuitive and doesn't suffer from the inherent "god complex" that characters get as they level in other games. You'll get more skilled, but you'll still get pulverized if you do something stupid. I find your definition of the line between story and "adventure with choice" to be interesting. When I use the word "story" I'm using it in the player-choice driven way you are describing. To me it's just semantics, but what is important is that I'm philosophically aligned with the goal of choice-driven fun, no matter what we call it. :) Where in WI you from? I was born in Fond du Lac, grew up in West Bend and now live in Omaha.
I'm in Whitefish Bay but we are in the middle of selling our house here to buy something either in Waukesha or Mequon as we have outgrown it with our family. Small world!
preach my dude.
Good video, but it might be an improvement if you mounted your camera and used both hands to hold the book in the configuration you want.
Hey Kenny that slip case looks great. I'm gonna have to get one myself. I have a small request if possible for more videos on Palladium books stuff. I've watched all of your videos and like what you're doing here. Keep it going.
I am going to do a series on Palladium Fantasy similar to what Jodie is doing for Rifts. Palladium Fantasy is my favorite Palladium game so I am starting that in the new year. I wanted to take some time after the open house and the RTT nonsense to get back to Palladium.
It's true what you said there about back in the days we wouldn't just play D&D we would also play and run other games. A lot of players back then played Palladium Fantasy, Middle earth Role playing (MERP), Marvel Superheroes adventure game, Heroes Unlimited, DC Heroes rpg. These were very popular in the 80's and we played them all.
Good stuff, brother. As you k oz, I grew up with AD&D 2nd ed and Palladium, so I have been going back and collecting a lot of the games I missed early on, like Runequest, etc. I'm pretty excited about the new edition!
Here's the RPGnow links: www.rpgnow.com/product/226022/
I’m going to do a follow up about my group playing the game this past weekend. They are on a quest to find the ark of the covenant and they had a blast and I was able to use some cheesy pop/alternative history books I’ve read for the background
Is there a full card list anywhere for set1?
On the website munchkinccg.game
John Kovalic - You've definitely seen his artwork. John illustrated all of the neutral cards in this first set. Check the bottom of the card for the artist and colorist names.
Yup. I went back and saw. Gamers got to support our locals and gives me something to get signed at this years Dork Stock
First thanks for the unboxing, I'm excited to play this game as well. There's a great DIY video that shows how to build a mount yourself for that allows a great overhead view for your videos v=Gvoa72e6N7w
Thanks for the link I’ll have to build that
We're working on improving the packs! And we're always watching.
MiB are everywhere....
You got linked on the official page, I also think they heard you.
Great unboxing video. GURPS is still on my list of game systems that I need to learn.
Thanks! Getting used to the tripod I got for m iPhone. Going to have to figure it out. If I ever get good I will have to get a camera and edit on a laptop or something instead of just filming and posting from my phone
I appreciate your unboxing. I have been curious about this box set.
Thanks! I’m going to review the Rifter that just came out. You beat me to the Palladium Fantasy videos I wanted to do.
Kenny Johnson it would always be good to hear your take on Palladium Fantasy.
Cool. Love this guy's hardcore magick ideas. Very interesting. Reminds me of my life. I basically live in my moms basement and grind all day and night for years.
This is awesome and recent too!
That is a whole lot of awesomeness there, Sir!
Hey, thanks for sharing! I'm the guy who made the printed maps in this box, and it put a smile on my face to hear your reaction and see them in there. By the way, there's an Eastern Territories map out now. Sorry I couldn't quite finish it in time for this year's grab bags.
Thanks for this. I'm going to make Lion & Dragon my next for purchase.
I'll have to check this out later, but I subscribed. I'm here due to The RPG Pundit's blog. :)
Samwise Seven RPG thanks! My videos will be janky because I just use an iPhone
No worries, most of my stuff is filmed with whatever webcam comes with my current laptop. :)
So what did you think of Secrets of the Atlanteans?
Church of Law. The magic system is new, in Albion I wrote assuming people were still doing Vancian (standard D&D) magic. But the magic system here is totally Medieval. Great review, thanks! And yes, several issues of RPGPundit Presents are (& more will be) direct supplements for L&D.
Nice haul! I really dig those maps w Kev's sig in silver; striking. And that Bizantium book is just gorgeous. Can't wait to meet & game w you at POH :-)
We get so much stuff that doing three at a time is a lot of stuff!
So my question to you is: grappling in both 3.x and 5th ed have had a habit of turning a boss level monster into a helpless, defenesless pinata that the party uses as a punching bag rather than it being the serious threat it should otherwise have been. Does this address that problem?
Kenny, thanks for cover the book! A few comments that you mentioned in passing: * The print copy is softcover premium color from DriveThruRPG, and lists for $18.99 plus shipping. DriveThru will pretty much get a single copy anywhere in the world (except Brazil, for whatever reason) for about five bucks. It is also available on my website gamingballistic.com, and as mentioned, the PDF is $9.49. Both DTRPG and my site have bundle pricing if you want both. * "I'm going to use this in my game" is about the highest praise that a game writer can receive, so thanks!
drizzt!!!! D: I want it !!!!!
Wizards of the coast released a second version of these starter minis this month. It's nothing but the same minis, except for the woodelf that replaced the drow, with the rest being recolored. Not worth the buy unless someone did not get the first starter.
There are no other ultra rares in Holy Heist. Only Ultra Rare Clowns.
my mistake then. I thought there were more. I only pulled the one from like 2 or 4 booster boxes
Thankyou for posting. Do they come painted?
Yes they do.
