Indeed, 2 persons sets are a very good midway point between single person taolu and sparring, as you said they can teach the body mechanics and flow between techniques in a controlled way, and I believe this is the main focus. But they can also be trained and performed in different ways depending on what outcome you are looking for at the time. The difference between a performance for display and studying the effectiveness and failure points of techniques looks very different. Our Yanqing jia is a similar case where it can last from 25 minutes to over and hour depending on what your training focus is at the time.

I didn't get the name of the taolu but you're right it is a Cha quan taolu from Lu family Mizong quan performed by Wang Chunhua.

His performance is great. It looks like two forms together becouse secont half of his form is copletely different than original wu lu chaquan. I like it👍

Our Mizong Quan form is indeed fairly long, although our version doesn't include any ditang quan, (a shame because I enjoy ditang quan). We don't have any videos of the form that I'm allowed to show at the moment, although at some point I may be able to share some snippets of a modern practitioner performing it.

No need to be sorry, I know the movements of Mizong are particularly difficult to get right, especially when done backwards. Do you know the form? Who did you learn it from?

@@borgiskhan Yes, I know the form ,as I said I appreciate the effort you put in it ,but the truth is that you do not have the body for the refine movements of Chinese Gong Fu-Wushu in the same way as a average Chinese hasn't got the body for a NBA player ,it just a fact , please do not get offended in isn't meant that way ,personally I think with your strong body you'll be more suitable for the Japanese Kyokushinkaikan Karate-do....

@@malianwong I'm not offended and you're correct, my physique and movements are far more suited to muay thai and sport fighting, which I did previously. I took on Mizong because my instructor was an incredible martial artist, and I knew it would push me. I agree that westerners have a hard time replicating what seems to come easy to someone that is Chinese. I'm very interested that you know the form and would guess you're from the same lineage as me, I'd love to know who you learnt it from?

An extract from our website may explain it "It is often claimed that Mizong may date back as far as the Tang dynasty. Some say it was created in the Shaolin Temple by a monk named Lu Junyi who fused Shaolin techniques with neigong. This master is said to have become famous both for his skills and for his unwillingness to take on students. The legend says that a young man called Yan Qing joined his household as a servant and spied on Lu while he was practising, secretly studying and copying him. One day while working in the fields, Yan Qing was forced to defend himself and the other servants when they were attacked by bandits. His secret was out, but rather than scold him Lu Junyi rewarded him by taking him as his sole disciple and training him properly. Yan Qing eventually took many followers himself, which they called Yanqing Quan in his honour, but were forced to change the name to Mizong Quan or “secret sect boxing” when they considered that both he and Lu Junyi were hiding from the authorities at the famous Water Margin bandit hideout of Lian Shang. Whilst hiding there he is said to have once evaded capture by leading the government troops who pursued him through a confusing maze of false trails. This is why one branch of the family writes the art in the characters Mizong Yi, or the “art of lost track”. I've read this legend before. Lu Junyi is a fictional character from the novel "Water Margin". I guess the real historical reason for the name is lost to time.@@borgiskhan

Unfortunately, there is so much that is lost. We can only go back as far as Sun Tong historically, and even his story, ending up in the Shaolin monastery, sounds very similar to many martial stories, so how true it is, is anybody's guess. Essentially it is a dance, it's a display to fit the culture at the time and isn't fighting. There are certainly fighting techniques in there, you just need to know what to look for. There would be no way of telling if they could fight from what they are doing here but 1920's China was arguably more dangerous than our sanitised modern lives and the techniques in Chinese martial arts like this, are the same for every other martial art so it's fair to assume that martial artists in China could fight.
