Homemade Percussion Mallets
Homemade Percussion Mallets
I made some percussion mallets myself in this video. These mallets can be used for playing on xylophones, marimbas, vibraphones, cymbals and other percussion instruments.
Materials needed:
- Drumsticks
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Tape
- Needle
Step 1
Tape the stick to form a core for the mallet
Step 2
Wrap the core with some yarn
Step 3
Cut the yarn while keeping it under tension
Step 4
Thread the needle
Step 5
Stitch the top and bottom of the mallet
Step 6
Cut off the remaining bit of yarn
Hope you enjoyed the video!
I used a drumless track for this video to drum along to. You can find that track here:

Homemade O-Zone Crash
zhlédnutí 40KPřed 8 lety
In this video, I tried to make an O-Zone Crash. I just drilled some holes in an old crash cymbal that I had laying around. I think this project turned out really well. I now have a trashy crash cymbal, the perfect mix between a normal crash cymbal and a china cymbal. :) I'm sorry for the bad audio quality, I don't have any extra micophones, so I just used the default camera mic. Hope you enjoye...
Making cymbal out of lid of a pan
zhlédnutí 31KPřed 8 lety
In this video, I tried to make a cymbal out of a lid of a pan. I did some laithing to it and I hammered it a little bit. I tried to give it a China-like shape, and right now, I am using the 'cymbal' as a stack with my ride cymbal. I'm sorry for the bad audio quality, I don't have any extra micophones, so I just used the default camera mic. Hope you enjoyed the video! Song: Distrion & Alex Skrin...

I suggest using a can or a very small bowl to lay the cymbal over as you're hammering out the bell.

I still have it actually! It’s not in good shape, but still has approximately the same sound. It’s not meant for hard hitting ;)

Thanks for this. I am halfway done and tried them on my metallophone but it wasn't like I thought. They ended up being too tough I think so they make a loud sound. I will try it on some other instruments and for sampling weird sounds around the house.

I never drill all the way through from one side , it makes a tattered edge on the exit side. Instead, drill halfway from one side then flip the cymbal and start on top. This makes the tatter end up between the top and bottom. Smoothing it is just as easy with a Dremel.

    • @nathanwinters700
      @nathanwinters700 Před 5 lety

I tend to drill all the way throw and then use a countersink bit on both sides to smooth it out.

If you’ve ever used the hole saws for an impact... you’d never go back to conventional hole saws. It cuts the time and effort down dramatically. They’re amazing.
