@@xferme this one seems to be manufactured better as the Stock Jet one came with wonky holes for the saddle screws, the saddles weren’t centred to the string holes on the body and my high E string actually rested on the grub screw. I have videos about these on my channel, just look for the Jet JS300 journey playlist. I’m not a big fan of Jets to be quite honest :) thanks for watching and commenting

I must admit that after owning this Jet for a few months, I definitely wouldn't waste money sticking Seymour Duncans in it. I'm tempted to take the Fender ones back out too and stick in some Wilkinson Alnico V single coils. Although I am tempted with an Eric Clapton Style VIntage V6 icon that already has them in. So maybe I should buy one of those and swap the pickups between them. Undecided, but basically no more Jet guitars for me I'm afraid. :(

@@divshearer that square tab is used if the nut slot is flat to the fretboard. If the slot is curved to the radius, then you have to sand it down or remove it. This particular guitar has a flat slot, so I left it on the nut and it was a straight swap out. You might have to file down the slot for the g string if you have tuning issues but that will require specialist tools 🛠️ good luck and thanks for watching :)

@@DarrellW_UK unfortunately my JS300 came with lots of faults so I had to change most things except the wood. My MIM is from 2017, so I can’t comment on the new ones but out the box I could’ve lived with it, the mods were just because I like tinkering. @@nathanchampionmusic on these sort of guitars I deliberately avoid the ones under about £250, they tend to be a bit of a mixed bag! I have owned Fender and Gibson guitars but no longer; I want a guitar that I’m not worrying about getting it stolen or damaged so have gone down a semi budget route. My two current favourite guitars are a Jet JT350 that now has Irongear pickups and a Harley Benton JA60 with Irongear P90’s and a Guyker Trem (Les Trem style) both are great guitars to play and sound amazing. I’ve had no issues with hard use of both of them including plenty of travelling around with them.

Hello, I have a few videos on my Jet JS300 already, but basically I had the fender pickups laying around and thought I’d try them to get a more vintage sound out of the Jet. Nothing wrong with the ceramic pickups (I actually really like the middle pickup on it) but they were a bit muffled for me. I’m not sure how well your Jet was out of the box, but mine was quite a dog from the factory. I have another video coming in July with further upgrades to it and now it’s amazing 🤩 thanks for watching and commenting :)

@@nathanchampionmusic Bought my Jet Js300 from a shop after playing it so think it's ok. Changed tuners to Vanson and that's a definite improvement. The ceramic pickups are a bit muffled....but better quality (I think) than ceramic pickups you usually get on Budget Strats. Like you...I do like the middle pickup in particular. Unlike you, I have no skills with a soldering iron. So if I want to change pickups and switch I'm going to have to pay labour charges. And unfortunately you cannot try before you buy with pickups. Also I'm mainly an acoustic player. When I do play electric..I'm more of a Tele guy. So this Strat is scratching in itch so cannot justify spending too much on modding it. I have heard and read good things about the Tonerider Pure Vintage set. ( I think it's neck 5.9k, middle 6.1k and bridge 6.45k). They cost £80 a set. That's about the most I'm prepared to spend. Also I'm going to investigate Iron Gear pickups. I have read about one or two JS300 owners who swapped out their stock pickups for alnicos (probably cheap ones ??)....didn't like them and reinstalled the stock pickups. I guess you'll always get more clarity with alnicos but if they're not decent quality they could be very thin sounding and too bright without much mojo. I do feel the stock ceramics have some mojo....maybe because as ceramic pickups go....they are low output. I think around the 5k mark. How long did you live with the stock pickups before swapping them out? Did you gig and/or record with them? Do you have all the DC/resistance figures for the Fender pickups currently installed in your JS300? Thank you.

@@mikenorman6697 I didn’t get to gig the guitar with stock pickups, that happened after I installed the vintage style fenders. But I do have a video on my channel where I try to sound like John Frusciante, even the guitar is still right handed and has the stock ceramics. After the video I changed the pickups. I don’t have any resistance values for the fender pickups, all I know is that they’re Alnico 5 and came on all the MIM Classic series Strats. The closets are the CS 57/62 set you can get from Fender. IMO you should look at changing the neck and bridge only, the middle sounds really good. If you want to keep prices down, then I’d suggest something like the Toneriders. But if you can, I’d get the Dimarzio Area pickups as they’re really smooth and nice. If you want to brighten things up, try changing the pots instead. CTS make good pots and maybe changing to 500k might get rid of the Stock Jet JS300 muffledness. Good luck with your guitar :)

​@nathanchampionmusic. Nice!!! The Vansons are fairly low cost tuners right? Good to hear they are solid... so much junk out there it can be often be difficult to sort through it all and get something quality without putting out a lot of cash. Yeah still loving my no-name red. It's been about seven years since I got it together. Replaced the tuners which were garbage (fake Grovers) with real Klusons and even sunk nice big (almost too big) U.S.A bridge studs in, which nearly came out the back of the body as it is a bit thinner than even a real Gibson Junior, I guess I bought long studs meant for a Standard or Custom. Fought with the tuning for a long time but finally got the nut sorted out after having a couple of repair shops obviously not getting it right. It's a journey but we learn some stuff.

My first guitar was a Vintage V100 and was around £300 back in 2005. A perfect example of a beginner guitar and as you described.

Good luck with the Strat build and tuner installation. I saw videos online about the Guyker Locking Tuners; some were positive and some negative, but looks like I have received a good set because they work brilliantly. Regarding the coffee drinking, I am indeed British, but I am not a big drinker of tea. There are a few more quirks about me that would question my “Britishness” to most non-Brits, that may be because of, in part, moving out of Britain (not the USA).
