Hanmer Hundy Race | 100km of Singletrack Goodness
The Hammer Hundy is an XC marathon race through the Hanmer Springs Forest. This was the inaugural running of the race, so the turn out was low, but the course is amazing. Really enjoyed battling it out with the competitors for 6 hours! Enjoy

The Unconquered Route | Le Petit Brevet 'Misery'
zhlédnutí 4KPřed 2 měsíci
In 2021 Le Petit Brevet 'Misery' route was created by event organiser Andy Chalmers. That year Rufus and I decided to attempt this ridiculous route and try to complete the 15,000m of climbing before the 38 hour cut off. We both failed miserably, and so have all other attempts. Last week I decided to give this route a try. As expected, it was absolutely brutal! Thanks for watching
Tour Te Waipounamu | 1st Place

Tour Te Waipounamu is New Zealand's premier bike packing race. The route spans the length of the South Island and a large amount of the 1,330km covered involves hiking and technical single track. This race was my key focus for 2024, and it's certainly a privilege to be able to race through this impressive landscape including sections of private property. The racing was exciting with good friend...

Here's my bike and gear check ahead of Tour Te Waipounamu, New Zealand's premier bike packing race. Spanning 1,300km over the length of the South Island, the route has several notorious hike a bike sections and plenty of technical riding to make it one of the toughest events on the bike packing calendar. Check out what I've decided to take and feel free to put your thoughts in the comments. Cheers

Tour Te Waipounamu is a 1,300km bike packing race spanning the length of New Zealand's South Island. With technical terrain and tedious hike a bike sections gear selection and bike choice is a hot topic. Rufus shows us how he has set his Sufur Prototype bike for the race. If you missed it, I posted a video of Rufus making this video from the ground up! Enjoy, and remember to follow the race @to...
Ride The Wilderness | 126km Gravel Race

The West Coast Wilderness Trail is a popular multi-day touring route on NZ's West Coast. At 'Ride The Wilderness' we raced through this scenic 126km on gravel bikes. I managed to keep with the lead group to the halfway point where I took a slam on a corner which cost me some time.
Le Petit Brevet | Fastest Known Time Attempt

The event which got me hooked on ultra distance bike racing. Le Petit Brevet is my yearly test of form on Banks Peninsula, Canterbury. The 300km course has a brutal 9,580m of climbing and single track sections which makes the route difficult to complete in the 38 hour cut off time. This year I try and beat the fastest known time set by Myles Gibson in 2021, this requires an average speed of 17....

Picking up after a horrible night spent dragging a heavy bike through thick mud in the Great Basin of Wyoming, part 2 is a look into the second 2,200km of my Tour Divide ride. In Colorado and New Mexico I decide to limit my sleeping routine in order to move up the leader board but the heat of New Mexico certainly takes it's toll on my progress! After 4 months of preparation I finally made my way to Banff, Canada to kick off the 2023 Tour Divide. I'd put everything I could into the preparation but was missing the most crucial aspect which was experience. With only a couple of ultra bike races under my belt entering the Divide with riding fast was an ambitious move but one I certainly don't regret!! This video follows the first half (2,...

This is one wild bike. I filmed Rufus build his latest bike-pack specific race bike ahead of his trip to Europe where he will be racing it. Rufus was on a race against time with his flight looming and it came down to a matter of minutes in the end. Follow him on instagram @rufus_here to see the bike in action!

I feel stupid. I have never seen the front roll in the "aero position" and it looks just logical.
Never went into tempo or threshold... Says a man with about 1000FTP. Most of us would need to be in Z4 to get up those hills 🤣
I stayed at that exact same toilet! got cuaght in a bad sorm, saved the day! pretty clean honestly.
Thanks for the fine video. Great job riding and documenting young fella!
What about the tour devide man!! You are not going for it? It was great last time
Thank you for a truly inspirational ride and insight into what makes up a gruelling marathon event. Sleep deprivation and the ability to suffer are obviously two key ingredients into a successful finish. Maps would be a good addition to the next attempt :) Awesome effort and forti!
What happened to the BB?
I'm wondering what will change in the race if there was not a real time leaderboard available to be checked by racers themselves.
Monster watts in zone 2 Joe.
Absolute weapon! That is wild!
what is the adapter that allows you to have 3 bottle cages?
I did the same thing with my garmin cycling down the coast of the US..... got it in Europe and pressed start to a white map, only way to fix it is a computer.....
Great ride Joe and I'm really appreciate that you've had energy to record this movie during all this competition behind. Btw that backpack was full as hell! 😉👌✌️
absolutely sensational. ive loved watching these two videos. such great inspiration
Got to love Hanmer❤❤
You mention a resupply cue sheet on your aerobars you used more than the paper in your bags... what was that?
Mate, you're mechanical would have had most people lying down in their own tears ... your response - 'Well, that was 8- 10 minutes' - next level problem solving. Quality stuff
Amazing!
Amazing effort Joe . Superhuman .
Well done Joe! Fantastic stuff.
👍🤩
Epic Joe! Pretty sure you're the toughest out there! Most would've pulled the pin. Awesome stuff!!
Thx for sharing
Magnificent stuff Joe, I'm 70 and even one lap at half your speed would be a stretch. I knew Max had a problem when you were calmly narrating just behind him on the big uphill grunt on that first lap :)
Chamois shoeey 🩳 👟
Congratulations, well deserved
Loved the Video and commentary, want to push the thumbs 👍 up multiple times, Thanks goJogo.
Hi Joe, inspirational content as usual. I have my first 340km ride coming up in a few weeks, and I wondered if you had any advice on nutrition and hydration? The route I’m taking has approximately 7000m of ascent. Keep it up. Thanks. Simon.
Amazing how the trees all grow in rows like that!
should've ridden the e-bike, Joe! Greetings from California.
Absolutely inspiring Joe ! Great one ! With cut tyre manage to finish 1st! Big up 👏👏👏 you’re really inspiring me Joe, rider from Kyrgyzstan
Now that's what I call XC 🤘
That was fun!! Great job!
You are a weapon!
Congrats !
You’re an inspiration!
love the vids 🤟
Joe, amazing and humbling. You are truly a machine! Now, if only you and Mark Beaumont could organise something together and get Netflix to pay for it .... call it Ride to Survive 😁
Nice one Joe, another well executed plan. 13 mins though, that’s getting tight!
Awesome stuff Joe, so good. 👍
This race is supposed to be unsupported, correct? Why do riders seem to carry almost no food? I mean they have a few snacks in a feed bag, as they call it. I must be missing something. Someone fill me in?
Living in China every day is mental, living in NZ I would chase for a peaceful life
love your videos... please invest in a wind muffler for your cameras!
I love it that the podium is just some old shipping pallets. haha Nice videos, great race.
Holy Shit Joe, that is phenomenal! I had tried to mapped so many variations using the Southern Bays but didn't think people would do the out n backs on the same road in the event, and it would be hard to "manage". Good on Andy for putting out that route. Congratulations man!
If there were bets on for who was gonna do it first. 🤙
What a ride Chapeau 🎩. Is there a gpx file online?
Yikes! Loved watching this :) How did you stop the suncream from sweating into your eyes?
Amazing ride Joe. Outstanding that you can video and provide a cogent commentary when out there giving it your all. Excellent video - I enjoyed the journey. And congratulations on coming in within your goal time.
Well done Joe. I knew we were in for something special when you messaged about the GPX file. Thanks for mentioning that the route was never designed to be ridden, rather to make the 300km route more appealing. Well done Joe on getting it done despite the terrible design.
