Interested in buying and renovating a house at Lake Como in Italy? Or house renovation generally? Then follow along with us as we learn as we go.
We bought a village house with a view of the lake in 2022 but it needs a total restoration. We decided to set up this channel to help others who are thinking of doing the same thing. We mix informative videos based on our learnings with some of the great things we get to see and do as we take the odd break and explore. We are quite hands-on with the DIY so expect to see video of us getting on with the tasks as well as working with the architect and building company.

Experimenting with revealing the stone walls in the hallway at our Lake Como house renovation
Whilst we wait for feedback on the planning process, we our conducting some tests to help us make decisions on the interior look and feel. First up, shall we reveal some of the stone wall?
As we have a stone-built house, it would be nice to have some of the wall on display. However, it depends on the condition of the walls, the colour, and the overall effect. We will use the hallway area (the old kitchen) as the test area, as some of the stone work was revealed when we removed the ceramic tiles recently.

Update on the planning process for our Lake Como house renovation

We thought we would share an update on how our plans are progressing with the local council (Comune) and regional planning office. It's a process which can take four to six months, or more. Our plans are currently with the local council and they have asked for more information on how the building fits within the context of the local village and environment.
Revealing the old fireplace at our Lake Como house renovation project

The fireplace in the old living/dining room had been remodelled about 50 years ago or more, with a brick and concrete canopy, so people could stay cosy by the fire.
