    So how long the graft will be taken? I am still beginner

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai Před 9 dny

      This kind of graft, veneer graft, takes about a month, in a controlled environment, a high humidity chamber with artificial light and daily misting. But needs one more to stay in before slowly being introduced to outside conditions and complete shade for the summer. Some grafts might be able to get an hour of sunlight by June and full sun from late September, but not all. It's a process that requires a learning curve. Not the easiest task. Cheers!

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai Před 9 dny

      @locpham-ie6ly moisture inside is good. But 2 hours of morning sun is bad. Even minutes of direct sunlight will fry the graft way before it gets to fuse. Now is really the worst time to graft in the northern hemisphere. It is way to hot. For grafting you need very low temperatures. Lower than 20C. Now, even in full shade, is too hot. I'm afraid they will fail. You should try again in September, or when your day temperatures doesn't go higher than 20C. Good luck!

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai Před 9 dny

      @locpham-ie6ly I'm sorry, the grafts will fail. When the sun hits the bag, the temperatures inside rise to insane levels. No conifer graft can survive this. At least put the tree in full shade. No direct sunlight. Still chances are bad this time of year. But if you succeed let me know. It will be a beautiful miracle! The tree is fine! Not all pine species have the same resilience. This trunk is Pinus nigra, they are just different, better in surviving! The thunbergii grafts which were further ahead in spring took a big hit from the root work and stopped growing for 2 months. By then the nigra buds had started a slow elongation. They now have needles popping up and they set new buds for next year which are looking very strong. It was in full sun up until yesterday when I moved it in half sun until September. Yes, hair is gone Samuel! Too hot here for long hair.... Actually, digging out trees from the wild, especially a natura 2000 protected forest like the one that starts above the house, is prohibited in Greece and I totally agree and respect this. But still, I've got whatever I've planted in the ground since 2010, plus whatever tree has popped out naturally in the garden as yamadori.... Cheers mate!

    Thank you for addressing the cutting of the donor material as being unnecessary and possibly risky. I said the same idea in my video on thread grafting Japanese maples. I agree fully, that there is much more risk of damage or at minimum slowing down the growing shoot, which in turn will cause a slower healing process. My thread graft has quickly thickened in half a growing season to be larger than some of the preexisting branches. Bravo! 👏🏽

      Thank you John! Unfortunately I lost that tree last summer. Last year was a weird year, lots of people in the northern hemisphere reported problems with pines and even sudden deaths. This tree was my weird story. It grew well for a season after the repotting, all looked well going into winter and then in late spring early summer, it just didn't grow. By August it was brown. Don't know why. Have a great day!

    Hi, I watched your video about grafting pines, and I am preparing to graft a Scots pine by bringing its own branches closer to the trunk of an old, cracked, approximately 30-year-old tree. I am from Poland, and here the proper time for grafting is January-February because later any wound is quickly covered with resin. If you don't mind, I would like to ask a few questions that are troubling me. Could you please provide information on how long and with what success you have been using this grafting method? Could you explain why you use paste instead of dedicated grafting film? Would a foil tape wrapped around the grafting site offer any benefit? Furthermore, I wanted to ask why you do not prepare the scion, i.e., why you do not remove the bark and expose the cambium tissue. Wouldn't this accelerate the grafting process, or is it because the resin might interfere with the tissue connection? Also, to improve the success of the grafting, should I restrict the growth of other parts of the plant except for the grafted area to direct energy to the grafting site, or should I just leave it alone and not perform any treatments on the pine?

    • @ArkefthosBonsai
      @ArkefthosBonsai Před 23 dny

      I've answered you on Instagram david. Everything except the last question. You should let everything run so that you get the fastest thickening possible. Don't prune anything. Cheers!

  • @robbo1068
    @robbo1068 Před 24 dny

    Thanks for sharing your pruning technique for pines....I've tended to keep away from them as I find the information I've read and videos seen to be a little confusing and sometimes contradictory but you've made it simple and easy to follow.
