The critics keep linking and comparing every new series to game of thrones. I mean shogun was compared to Game of thrones which is madness. I don’t necessarily see it as a program makers problem but the press who simply can’t move beyond Game of thrones.

1:44 game of thrones brought people to it. Studios trying to get as much viewers in as possible is what breeds bad writing. You cant write for everyone but many can grow to love your writing. 2:07 Additionally if your re making something studios seem to think “ah i can write it better” attitude. No you cannot and will not just re adapt it with your own writing. You can change tone and mood and even pacing easy enough you dont need to change they way the story unfolds or ends.

The people will only acept there will never be another _Game of Thrones_ once the "Next Big Thing" actually comes and gets the same record-breaking audiences as _Game of Thrones,_ in the same way TV channels only stopped searching for "the next _Lost"_ once shows like _Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad_ and _The Walking Dead_ took _Lost's_ place in the Zeitgeist. And even then it took them a while, _The Walking Dead_ and _Breaking Bad_ where in their 3rd or 4th seasons when studios finally stopped greenlighting shows just because they had the _Lost_ formula of "random characters connected by a central mystery we improvise as we go but pretend it was planned since the beginning"... and then TV channels and streaming services started to look fo their "we have _The Walking Dead_ at home", "we have _Game of Thrones_ at home" until _Breaking Bad_ and _Game of Thrones_ ended and then they started looking for "the next _Game of Thrones",_ "the next _Breaking Bad",_ etc. which means that when the Next Big Thing finally appears it will start the cycle of imitators all over again because the people in charge clearly doesn't learn anything (probably because the guys who greenlited _Flashforward_ and _Alcatraz_ and _The Event_ back when everybody was copying _Lost_ left their jobs in 2015 and now are the CEOs of Addidas, or of Epson, or of Carl Jr's or something so in their place there's a new batch of people who know nothing about the past just repeating it)

very late to this, but i was so excited for the second season only to have never finished the show, and to refuse to (my fiance is saddened but i told him to just read the books) because when I realized they were just doing the plot from Crooked Kingdom and therefore making a SOC spin off have no real meaning since their character arcs had technically been completely save for like, nina, I was so angry I cried. I thought the first season was pretty good but they had just ruined the second season, even from the opening shot it just looked cheap and fake which broke my heart. For the sake of all the wonderful actors and crew who clearly care a lot, I hope something ends up happening, but I hope they pretend the SOC part of season 2 doesn't exist if so.

The first problem with people tryin' to create the next Game Of Thrones is that these writers seem to focus too much on gore, sex, and violence instead of developin' the characters enough for their deaths to be tragic and buildin' the world up enough for people to care about the conflicts on the show. The second is that Game Of Thrones is unique, as the books that the early seasons were based on had political intrigue in addition to sex and violence and magic. The third is that the costumes were a reason why people were drawn to Game Of Thrones. Sure, they had the Gorget on the outside of the armor on the show and some armor didn't have a Gorget and Davos should be wearin' a thicker outfit when he's in the North, but at least the outfits look like what you'd expect from a Medieval settin' with Magic. Most fantasy shows nowadays have the characters dress like Medieval hobos.

Exactly I been wanting to do a video on this for YEARS like Fantasy today has an issue like GOt was successful but stop trying to make your shows into GOt I don’t want GOT I want what your adapting and your take on it. Still though audiences are a huge issue as well as a lot of fandoms are toxic AF and alot of these show runners unfortunately read the comments of these trolls. Personally artists should make art the way they want to (Even if that includes people of color.) I mean no one Told Van Gogh or Picasso how to Paint or what to paint, so let that be the same. Also too a lot of these shows are throwing out things but they aren’t even looking to adapt POC fantasy written by POC writers; Evan Winters and N.K Jemisin been waiting for ever to have there work adapted. So you’re stuck in this vicious loop of toxic racist sexist fandom and toxic writing crew. But Fans as well are annoying and vexing they think they own the integrity of a series just because they grew up with it as a kid. Most of them think they have this right to shit on things and shit on people who like these shows despite its flaws. I swear it’s easy for some of y’all to throw stones at glass houses from Hightowers, until you get in the studio and lead your own projects I think you won’t know what’s going on in that writers room. The logistics are so much more complicated than that as many writers are underpaid and under appreciated but I never see you so called super fans advocating for writers to have better payment a strike like cancelling all your subscriptions would send a message but y’all don’t. Hell if I was paid like trash and hated on by a toxic fandom I wouldn’t give a crap about you fans or the project either. As a writer myself either people are going to have to let go of their delusional ownership to these series or stfu and move past it and make their own stuff. The meaning of Adaption doesn’t just mean convert, it also means to change and alter.

I don't understand the appeal of this show. Sorry. I guess I am simply not the target audience but I tried to watch it and I found Alina to be annoying. Like girl, a war is coming and you can only go 'Mal, Mal, Mal.' I can't speak about the book though as I do not read modern YA (not dissing anyone who do, you do you...unless you read Colleen Hoover) but in the show is filled with predictable archetypal characters, so much so that it is cringe.

I’m sorry but this is the nichest topic I’ve ever heard to the point where I had to invent a word to describe it. Is this really worthy of a 20 minute video essay, and how does anyone find the time to watch it? People will always make stupid comparisons, whereas other people will be sensible and make up their mind despite silly narratives and biases floating around. Welcome to the human race.

I’m sort of looking for every show to be the next Game of Thrones, but only in terms of writing. They never quite meet that standard, which doesn’t bother me. Game of Thrones is simply my favorite show. If a show like Shadow and Bone claims to be the next Game of Thrones, that doesn’t get my hopes up. I just watch the show and make up my mind on my own, which in the case of Shadow and Bone, it’s pretty lame.

For me the Blue Eye Samurai season 1 was better than the GOT.

There will never be another GOT, because of unique factors that made this show what it was back in the day. Of course, some of them can be replicated, some of them extract and adapt to new era of TV, but some of them could happen only back then. GOT success was perfect mixture of those factors and studios just don't get it, which nothing new...

It boggles my mind that so many people liked the ATLA La 😂It’s so weak and lifeless Zuko Ren, non motherly Katara, horrible thirsty Suki, serious aang like how did all the girls not jump on Suki being ruined one of the few real bad ass women and they messed her up!! I love the cast I think they’re all perfect except Azula another huge fumble but I just wish they were written the way they are IRL when you see them in they are the characters, the writing they got though👎🏼

It really seems that to some degree SnB adaptation was always going to be doomed by SoC popularity. Like, they wanted to have cake and eat cake, which was to adapt whole Grishaverse material, but have no patience to wait for crows story, so they introduced them way to early stealing spotlight from main storyline and creating a bit of mess.

I think the biggest Problems of Fantasy Series past Game of Thrones are: - Faceless Characters without any Sort of Development or Drive or no Character at all. Mostly definied by their sexuality meaning: Vogue washing. I am vogueness at all. House of Dragon does it in a wonderful way. - Cheap looking Animation for a huge amount of Money. - Storytelling and Dialouges at most part are just unispired and pure Exposition Dumb. Most of those problems count for the Fantasy Productions of Netflix and Amazon. Not for HBO.

I mean GOT was obviously directly inspired by LOTR which still has a great many incredible fantasy stories just waiting to be adapted to film that is infinitely better written than GOT. And im a GOT fan. So why are we so intent on chasing the 50th iteration or inspiration and holding to the standard of the original concept? I say we just go back to middle earth and adapt those stories. (Im aware there are currently 2 films in production set in middle earth right now but there is so much more we could explore in that mythology that spawned every fantasy story you hear about ever since)

There is already a much better fantasy show that’s great from start to finish. It’s called Attack on Titan. It has everything that GOT could have been. If you haven’t seen it, go watch the whole thing. Absolutely brilliant writing, amazing visuals, set pieces, plot twists and foreshadowings that actually pay off.
