I loved Ebert but he was so wrong on Starship Troopers.
I’ve watched a lot of Siskel & Ebert, but I’ve never seen them both start laughing at how dumb an ending was. That was awesome 😂
Verhoeven did a terrific job in ST. Is a great action sci-fi adventure with a lot of sarcastic comments about military and TV
They may have missed the satirical aspect of Starship Troopers-i think a lot of people did, myself included. I also loved U-Turn, but I can understand why people don’t like it (which is a skill that these two never acquired).
alien 3, Alien Resurrection.. both crappy flicks shouldve never been made.. hopefully alien romulus will bring it back to life
I saw On Deadly Ground in the theater; after that, my man crush with Steven Seagal was over. That’s also when I realized he actually sucks, and the quality of the movie has to do with his co-stars. But even Michael Caine and Billy Bob Thornton couldn’t save this. Speaking of Caine, go watch Sleuth (1972); it’s unbelievable.
I remember this intro!
Roger’s film essays were a very important part of my developing fandom (without them, I would have missed out on Luis Bunuel’s work), but GOD were they pompous. And I’m of the opinion that there’s no excuse for evergiving away the twist of a movie, no matter how bad it was.
I’m the only person in the world who loved ‘Toys’, which is why I still refer to Michael Gambon as General Zevo even after seeing all of the Harry Potter movies 😅
Starship troopers is now considered peak satire and amazing Sci -fi
Omg, that monologue about German pastries was too funny!
These guys were so wromg so often. Its a wonder they even had this show.
Thanks for sharing this with us
I actually enjoy Hudson Hawk. I find it pretty funny.
U-turn B*A*P*s Starship Troopers were all good but the rest of those movies were crap
Plenty of good films from 1997: Contact, Good Will Hunting, 5th Element, Gross Pointe Blank, Jackie Brown, AGAIGets, Princess Mononoke, LA Confidential, Cop Land, Rainmaker, Ice Storm, Selena, Spanish Prisoner.
99% of professional critics are leeches. No better than assholes posting on Yelp, and getting paid for it.
Who else didn’t realize that they remembered this theme music?
two guys with absolutely no talent, made a living watching movies and talking about them. it is sad that people that do this kind of work probably make more money than teachers. two idiots talking about movies and people watched them. amazing.
Disney always has a Thanksgiving movie for theaters started with Toy Story
Siskel should not have been ruining movies on his show. Whispers in the Dark was more fun than he probably ever had in his life.
Exit to Eden is not a very good movie. I would agree with you. I am absolutely in love with the main actress though.
I thought the thumbnail was Robert Smith.
Love these guys but we have different tastes in movies
Gene and Roger realizing that Beavis and Butthead was a satire on teenage couch potatoes is good and I’m glad they knew that. But them giving it thumbs up is shockingly great!
They didn’t like the babe because it was accurate?
Robin Williams seems to show up quite a bit on these "Worst of" lists in the 90s.
Dang...1991 didn't just have some bad movies, it has some *bad* movies.
Canadian Bacon really is an underrated gem. It truly is. It’s a shame Siskel and Ebert couldn’t determine that.
It's amazing how much weight these idiots have when it comes to movies...how about produce and/or direct a movie and let's see how good you two do
I watched The Jackel after I saw their review, I left thinking, well that wasn't that bad.
I don’t get why so many disliked The Hudsucker Proxy. I thought it was very entertaining and hilarious
This program 📺 lost credibility by not including the mother of the worst movies in history: Batman and Robin ... really? How much did Warner pay them 💸 so that they wouldn't end up with their review of such a horrible movie 🎞️🎥??? 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 five fingers down for "the critics"
The Frightners is a fun film. Kazaam is junk.
Alien Resurrection wasn't all that bad. It is probably the worst Alien movie though.
7:44 Gene must be wearing shoulder pads.
I wish these two were still with us
Alien Resurrection is UNDERRATED. No way in hell is it worse than Batman and Robin
LMAO Siskel & Ebert were both wrong about “The Man Who Knew Too Little” it was a good movie and Murray was hilarious.
I'm not going to argue about whether Alien: Resurrection is a perfect movie, or even a great movie, but worst of 1997? Because too many sequels, even though he thinks the premise is promising? Wait, no, because too much alien. A minute later he defends Home Alone 3 because bumping people in the head is what the movie is about. Okay, well Alien movies are about fighting off the Alien, so why is Alien Resurrection that bad again? I like these guys, but they have such Inconsistent reviewing. It sounds like they just weren't in the mood for the movie when they saw it.
The Ref is a classic for me. It’s formulaic and routine plotting is whatever, what makes it go to stratosphere is it’s comedy gold. Dennis Leary and Judy Davis simply are hilarious, and the rest of cast are great too, getting nice quips and one liners as well. For me, it was almost nonstop laughter, and even though predictable, the story had a heart as well. Very underrated movie!
I really like the chemistry between Gene and Roger. After Gene’s passing, and Roger continued with the guest critics, you can really see that it wasn’t the same. Roger and Richard had something going too, but I guess it wasn’t quite the same for Roger.
Highlander two is one of the worst ever… I love the franchise, but I looked at this one. I’m like what the fuck

Does "Shout" seem like an early version of "School of Rock"?
Clifford is one of the funniest movies ive ever seen.
Starship Troopers is excellent satire - he's a dope
You see that look on Michael Douglas’s face at 16:37 ? That was the expression on my face for the entire movie.
The man who knew too little was hilarious.
Wow. Looking at the vomit that presently being upchucked by Hollywood these days, I'm absolutely in astonishment as to these men determining that some of these films are literally the worst of 1997! Alien: Resurrection was AMAZING!! The Jackal? Incredibly fun and captivating!! Bad choices, gents...or perhaps, films have just gotten worse as time rolls on and some films of my youth retain some element of nostalgia for me.
