Really liking your video content, keep up the good work. I'm currently carrying out a campervan conversion and trying to put a shopping list together for the equipment etc. We are planning on at least 400w of solar, 400ah of lithium/ lifepo4 batteries and a 3000w inverter. What size cable and fuse rating would you recommend for this?. Also should there be a consumer unit between the hook up point and the inverter ? Thanks

Very good info, as an ex-electrician I thought I'd watch this for van-installation specific info. The first 5 minutes gave lots of good tips (conduit, never thought of that). The only thing I would highlight is that the solid core (which you're not going to use anyway) was old-standard colours - black and red not brown blue. Current carrying capacity vital info' for safe installation. Thank you for the reinforcement of information that I might have forgotten! On to the solar installation vid' now... too modern for my knowledge!

I was once again watching your videos from the start of your current build and spotted the Elveden War Memorial on the A11 which is a bout 30 minutes from where I have just moved to following my retirement. I am hoping to convert my own van in due course and your videos are definitely one I will be using for my inspiration.

DO NOT use this video as a how to for your build. 1, the table referenced is for AC electricity, not DC. And also not for the type (insulation) of cable that was demonstrated. The CCC and subsequent CSA is different for DC. 2, voltage drop has not been accounted for in any of the sizings. This is very important for DC. 3, the de-rating factors (installation type) is different for caravan, marine and vehicles, and need to be accounted for. 4, you need to know what kinds of switches (and ratings) to use, again, they are different between AC and DC. Honestly, the simple examples given will probably all work well enough, but it is by no means correct, safe, or compliant. This is a case of little knowledge being dangerous.

Can I use 2.5mm for my 12v compressor fridge freezer

I'm a bit confused. On one of your diagrams you have 16mm cables from the solar controller to the battery. Then in another diagram you have 10mm cables?

Another great video Greg 👍 Just about to install my panels and this is really helpful. If you’ve got any of those grommets left it’d be great to have a couple. Also I’m assuming there’s no problems with having the panels up but not hooked up to battery and appliances etc? No need to cover them whilst not being used? Cheers! 👍

I have a 21 plate Relay and there is no fuse box in either the Driver's or Passenger pillar. Any Idea where they moved it to? Thanks

Hi Greg, thank you so much for the detailed video :) I have just bought the same camera but for a ford transit and hopefully can install now with ease thanks to your video. I had one question regarding the rocker switch please - if I just want to the camera to come on only when the engine is running (and not worry about connecting it to the reverse lights etc) do I follow the same system you've laid out on the wiring diagram, but just not include the rocker switch, and have direct connection from the wago connector to the 3A fuse which goes into the vehicle fuse board? In another video you show a plastic with an RCD and two MCB's (6 & 10 A) and you mentioned that you could not get the kit in a metal box. I have two comments on this that I friend enquired of me, he asked if he should wire the two MCB to gether to give 16a through put. I pointed out to hime that he would not get the 16 amps he wants to supply to his Victron inverter, if he wire them in series the ^A RCD would pop as soon as he applied power to the inverter.. I informed him that he could use a 16 amp RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Over-Current) which would give him the correct AC feed to his inverter. The RCBO can also be purchased in a metal Enclosure. I think you should re-record your video and include the RCBO as it is perfect for a van fit as it is reasonably small in a metelic box.

Hi Greg. What’s the best way to wire in a mains battery charger in to this system ? I currently have a battery charger that chargers my leisure battery’s when it’s hooked up to AC on a campsite. What would be the best way to incorporate that in to this system. Thanks

Hi Greg. I've just clicked on your link and bought some of the 2.5mm 2 core 12v cable you recommended. But the cable that's arrived, although it says H07RN-F is actually 10mm diameter in total. Is this correct as I know nothing about electrics and the seller says it's for 230/240v. Cheers.
