Great Demo!
Thanks! Can’t say enough good things about the Superblocks. At the beginning I just used it for mostly convenience when I didn’t want to use or bring a tube amp but I’ve been using it more and more for live gigs and recording just because of how good it sounds!
@@sheifiproductions will have one soon!
That's what I'm talking bout!!
Yes sir!
Excellent work. The sound is surprisingly similar. I was looking at a hollowbody to rely less on my acoustic. After hearing this, I'll stay with my acoustic. Thanks.
Thanks for the review. I have been looking at getting a nice Godin hollow body like this for the Kingpin 2 series. I like having a bridge pickup like the II has since it gives more tonal options. I love P90s.
Thanks! I think it’s one of the best values out there for a hollowbody guitar. I’ve been very happy with mine.
Just got it. It's my first Godin and first Telecaster. It feels great and looks amazing. One thing I'm not sure of, as in if this is usual for Teles or just this Godin model in general, but the bridge pickup get quite noisy when introducing the slightest bit of distortion. The sustain is also not great, on the bridge pickup. No complaints on the neck humbucker, it sounds great.
Being a single coil pickup in the bridge it will definitely buzz more compared to the neck humbucker. However, I don’t recall it being noisy compared to standard tele bridge pickups. Do any of the other positions create a lot of buzz or just when it’s only the bridge?
@@sheifiproductions The other positions aren't as bad but do have some hiss (except humbucker). Bridge position mainly.
i may not buy this after hearing that buzz..I meet and test a used one this am and may put it thru my LR baggs venue..I like where the p90s are placed
Your guitar tone is amazing
Thank you, I appreciate it! I’ve really been diggin this setup.
Is it a full hollow body or a semi hollow body? Thanks!
It has the right envelope for jazz, doesn't it?
Right envelope?
They have a different bridge
That is true. I know for example in a tele the differences in time between steel and brass saddles are fairly noticeable but I’m not sure how much of a difference in tone these two more similar bridges would make, but certainly possible it would account for some tone difference.
Love to see this, I'm digging the new dynamic Jordan is playing with.
Thanks and Jordan and Jon both played great on this tune!
Actually I think the difference is huge. The hollow sounds full (how a good instrument should), and the solidbody sounds muffled.
Interesting to hear the range of opinions. If you listen with decent headphones you can hear a difference. I would agree the hollowbody has a little bit more a full range with more lows and highs and the solid body is a little more focused.
you hear the difference when you have a good set of set of headphone
The after-ring seems brighter on the hollow body
Agreed, think the difference is pretty subtle but it's there.
You have always IMO been great instrumentally, but this sounds on another level to me composition wise, tear jerking even with no lyrics. 2:45 guitar section is absolute 🔥 1:12 really nice chord changes, almost goes where you expect, but bends it just enough to add color 4:36 sizzling guitar again Whole piece sounds like flame sneaking out behind a calm exterior, keeps jazz color without sounding hazy or losing pop theme strength and focus. I really wonder how many say Silversun Pickups, Polyphia, or otherwise more sophisticated types of prog alt rock would find themselves suddenly listening to a whole lot of jazz if you pointed them here.
Thanks for the kind words Mike! You should consider doing more music reviews as I love your descriptions. I've always enjoyed utilizing some of the jazz vocabulary and improvisational techniques with some of more rock/fusion background. I agree I think many fans of prog alt rock styles might enjoy some compositions similar to this.
Guitar is fab. Needs better audio for a guitar review
I normally notice the smallest differences in guitars, but hollowbody vs solidbody is a challenge for me, I definitely couldn't identify either one blind. However when focused I can tell there's a slight difference in transients, the hollowbody has a longer decay for the mids and lows, and a shorter one for the highs. I think that's where peoples idea of a "woody" tone is coming from
I totally dig your playing.
Thank you, appreciate it!!!
(Three years after) Thank you for sharing this! :-) Me, I'm in the process of discovering the different possibilities within "playing a guitar". As I am in the Netherlands, I'm within free shipping from Thomann in Germany. So I have been hoarding guitars and basses from their Harley Benton house brand. I'm also in the process of finding the strings I want for these, notably round-wound or flat-wound. For flat-wound guitar strings, I'm settling om Thomastik JS110, for round-wounds on D'Addario NYXL (although only one guitar has them actually mounted yet). Your choices may vary. :-) My "quest" has this week even resulted in ordering a second 335-type guitar (Harley Benton HB-35Plus). One now has these flat-wounds, the other will keep round-wounds (factory-fitted D'Addario EXL110, so the upgrade to NYXL has low priority). I'm very pleased to have both of them. With bass guitars, I'm more inclined to prefer flat-wound strings. There, I have two nearly identical ones: a Harley Benton MJ-4EB with round-wounds (factory-fitted, D'Addario NYXL?) and the 5-string MJ-5EB with flat-wounds (Thomastik JF345). I also have one guitar with active pick-ups (I preferred the cheaper Roswell over the more expensive EMG): a solid-body Harley Benton SC-Custom II Active. At first I had trouble controlling the tone with both pick-ups selected, until it came to me that the tone with the factory-fitted round-wound D'Addario set (EXL110?) ranged from "bright" to "ultra bright". I fitted Thomastik JS110, and now the tone of this guitar has shifted into a normal range [matter of opinion] with a focused tone. To those wanting a guitar with very little treble, I'd say: consider a Brian May Red (he has them built under license) and don't buy the matching treble booster. It comes with D'Addario EXL120 strings fitted.
I have pro junior lll , I gig with it comfortably
Definitely! I always have mine on an amp stand or at least tilted back and have gigged with it on a large variety of events. If it’s a bigger venue just throw a mic on it and you’re ready to go!
Great sounding Danelectro! Do you still own this guitar?
The guitar actually belongs to the school I work at. You can find them used and what not though. They get a really nice tone for jazz!
Thanks so much! I'm definitely shopping for a used one and IO believe I found one here locally. I'm going to the seller tomorrow!@@sheifiproductions

Great interesting video, I wonder if anyone has compared this product to a UA Dream 65; please comment if you have, cheers
Nice video. When you go direct to the board do you need a DI box? Thanks!
Nope! You can take the xlr out direct to mixer or recording interface. The xlr out also has a cab simulator built in which sounds quite good. I've used a lot for recording and live and have been quite happy with the tones!
@sheifiproductions what is the key and chords that you played in from 3:55-4:10?
What case did you get for it?
I just use the soft case that came with guitar. I believe it’s considered a soft case but it actually has quite a bit of protection and is quite nice!
excellent review, excellent playing, very, very good sounding guitar, but then there is a great amp and effects in the signal chain, my is comming tomorrow
Thank you and hope you enjoy the guitar as well!
Are you using a ring light, soft box or any kind of artificial light behind the camera for the video? Maybe that's why the p90 is buzzing so much.
I made the video a while ago but don’t believe I was using any kind of ring light. For whatever reason my gear always seemed to buzz more than usual in that room. Not in that house anymore though!
Realmente muy original
Gracias!
I enjoyed hearing you demo the guitar. I'm 99% a fingerstyle acoustic guitar player, and have hated every solid body electric guitar I've ever had. So I bought one of these and love it but for the way the P90 hums. No hum is why I preferred humbuckers, so I bought a Creamery "P90 sized hidden humbucker" with an Alnico 5 magnet. Health issues prevented me from installing it and then I forgot about it. I'll take this as a reminder to get 'er done now that the health stuff is squared away. Reason for watching videos on a guitar I already own? I'm approaching 70, thinning the herd and trying to decide whether to flog the Kingpin or a Loar LH-280. I would love to know what pickup you installed? Again, thanks for the tasty demo.
Thanks for the kind words and hope your health issues continue to improve! I ended up replacing the stock P90 (which I think actually sounded quite good) with a Bartolini 1CTA (Tuck Andress Model). I got really into Tuck's guitar playing a few years back and wanted to try and get a similar sound to his without spending thousands of dollars. The pickup sounds great! It's a humbucker so it's nice and quiet but it's much brighter and clearer than most neck humbuckers I've heard. The bartolini pickups aren't cheap but this one sounds great and is super "hi-fi" souding.
killin'
Killin mix!!
Thanks for the video! I watched it through my phone and was unable to appreciate most of the differences other people say they noticed. In my scientific opinion, there are too many uncontrolled variables for this demonstration to be definitive. Different strings, different bridges. Are the pots and capacitors the same? Are the pickup heights the same? These are all factors which affect tone. You mentioned that the airiness doesn't come through in the recordings. You experience airiness while playing because you hear the acoustics of the guitar. The pickups don't tranceive air vibrations, only magnetic field fluctuations. The airiness perceived while playing is the result of your brain synthesizing the eletric output and the acoustic output and it would disappear if you played while wearing effective sound cancelling headphones. That said, there may still be very real resonance differences between the bodies and the strings. Just look at the resonant feedback achievable by playing in front of your amp. In my opinion, I suspect that the differences between solid and hollow body electric guitars only manifest within certain parameters.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤😂
Boss makes a great noise supresser that i think you might really like!
I don't think I ever tried the boss noise supressor. At one point I had a electro-harmonix debugger that was pretty effective but to my ears it changed the tone just enough to bother me. I recorded this demo a while ago and for whatever reason the buzz in that rooms was always worse than most. None of the guitars I demoed produce a significant buzz/hum when played clean.
Thanks for a great comparison. From the first comparison, it was easy to hear the difference. When comparing the bridge pickups however, they were indistinguishable to me. I really appreciate the way you simply pluck the strings and let them ring out. In many videos, it seems like the reviewer is auditioning for a gig or to show their talent. Your approach is so much more revealing to the listener. I also appreciate your use of a common, clean Bassman. Most people can relate the that Fender sound.
Thank you so much for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the demo! You pretty much nailed the majority of the reasons of why I started making some gear demos. I always like to start with a nice and clean/dry comparison and will add some pedals and what not sometimes later but would get pretty annoyed at seeing demos comparing guitars with primarily super saturated tones!
Algo😊
great video, thanks.
Did you use the same sets of strings that were about the same age for both of these demos? Great video, by the way. I would have expected to hear more difference. The hollow body seems to have less gain and treble
Thanks! It’s a good question about the strings. I believe at the time of the video the hollowbody had 11s and the solid body had 10s but I can’t remember for sure. At some point I switched to 11s on the solid body as well but don’t remember if it was before or after this video.
Great review! And super playing from the opening to the end!
Appreciate the kind words! It’s a great little (but mighty) amp!
Liking the hollow better.
I actually dont like the resonance of the hollow body. Its almost an out of tune sustain on the background of the tone. Its weird.
Does it have enough headroom with humbuckers to use in a not heavy kind of jazzy/ funky band ?
If you use with the power supply it’s supposed to be the equivalent of a 25-watt tube amp. In theory around the same head room (if not a little more) than a deluxe reverb. You could also use the xlr out (which has a cabinet simulator) to PA/powered speaker or run it into a cabinet. I either go direct for gigs/recording or I have a block dock 12 hd cabinet I play it through. I usually play more single coil guitars but I would think it would be loud enough to hear yourself as a monitor and what not. Maybe not loud enough to stay totally clean and be heard over band but if it’s mic’d or direct out you should be good!
getting into jazz i wanted a "jazz" guitar for this new direction..... then my friend says "you have a les paul and a tone king." just saying
You can definitely get out a good jazz tone out of most solid body guitars. Les Paul for sure!
When you're talking electric guitars with magnetic pickups, 99% of the tone comes from pickups, bridge, & electronics. Swap your fender strat body for a pine 2x4 from home depot & it'll still sound like a strat. I'm not saying a hollow body doesn't have it's place. They're much louder when unplugged. If you get a model with a piezo in the bridge you can add some really nice acoustic sounds to the mix. If you crank up the volume/overdrive with a hollow body you've got a feedback machine.
I do think that things like the bridge and body wood contribute some to the tone but agree that pickups cause the most difference in the tone! That’s one reason I don’t like seeing comparisons like this with guitars with different pickups.
Best demo o this guitar, love your playing its great
Thank you!!!
I push mine with a good overdrive through a 1 12 cab. Sounds great!
Yes indeed! I either play/record with it direct or live sometimes I put it through a quilter block dock cabinet. Takes pedals like a champ!
sounded awesome pushed as well
I'm thinking about getting one, because I feel like a solid body is less 3D than any acoustic instrument. So i'm thinking about using It when play with acoustic instruments ( I don't meant acoustic guitars )
