Wed Raceing 10th July RPYC
A quick video of the race cut down to 5 minutes..
It was good winds which we made the best of. Yes we were last over the line but at least we got a 3rd on handicap.

Time Trial Recording - RPYC
zhlédnutí 15Před měsícem
It takes three to operate a Time Trial recording point. One to call out the time, one to spot the boat, its number and call out the second it noses past the park and one more to record the time against the boat. An interesting couple of hours which becomes quite intense, particularly when boats arrive in groups/ quick succession. It's important that the observers maintain a high level of alertn...

Wind? What wind? We were able to keep the boat moving, particularly in the first half of the race, but by the time we rounded the day buoy keeping moving was a real struggle. The video clearly shows the difference in the two halves of the race. Until the day buoy we could at least see the fleet, but after that, and particularly around Matilda Bay they were barely visible. Reflections fell into ...
Hull Cleaning - Lady Liza

It's about 8 weeks since I was last under the boat. This short video shows the growth over that time and a little of the cleaning process. Its hardwork and will need another one or two goes before it's properly done. From this I can see that the boat is ready for a haul out and re anti-foul. But she is not due out until January (7 months time) so I'll have to spend more time in the water in an ...
Oh So Slow Racing - Wed 3rd April 2024

Perhaps our best start of the season/year/decade? And in slow motion! Winds at the start were about 4 knots occasionally gusting a few knots higher, but the the wind couldn’t make up its mind what it wanted to do until about 4.50pm and even then it depended on where you were on the course. As we approached Foam from Armstrong it was amazing to see boats coming downwind from Foam towards us whil...
Inside a Frenzy/Fusion Sandwich
zhlédnutí 172Před 4 měsíci
The video shows what can happen if the skipper/helm (me) does not fully think through the approach to the line prior to the approach. The implications of a port tack approach, in easterly winds, with the bulk of the fleet running the line on starboard should have been clear. It seemed that we had a gap where we could just sneak through. The leading S80 (Fusion) was luffing a little but then abl...
RPYC Wed Race 21 Feb 2024 - Lady Liza

Good strong SSW sea breeze at 17 knots. Great racing for a Bavaria yacht. We made the most of it rounding the course at an average speed of 5.65 knots finishing 1st on handicap and 9/16 over the line.
Great Summer Breeze Racing on the Swan

Winds were around 20knots and took us to speeds in excess of 8.5knots. Champagne sailing, until the wheels fell off! We approached the furthest point in the race, Mosman Mark, in Mosman Bay but Equalizer had turned away from it towards another mark, so like lambs, we followed suit. As did Torravean, they followed us. In the end all three of us retired having not followed a proper course. We con...

The last haulout was in May, just over six months ago, Lady Liza has been sitting idle in the pen for the last two months. During that time it has gathered a lot of slime and some growth, particularly around the base of the keel, engine leg and rudder. This video shows the extent of slime and growth. I cleaned off the keel, engine leg and rudder, then you see an 'after' view, much better! Not o...
Successful Wed Racing for Lady Liza
zhlédnutí 156Před 9 měsíci
Good winds and an enthusiastic crew kept the boat on her feet for the entire race. We were 1st on handicap and 9th out of 14 boats over the line. The video is overly long but rewards the viewing (I think anyway).

A bit more wind would have helped. We were 11/14 over the line and also 11th on handicap. It could have been worse, for most of the race we were last but the two boats in front of us headed for the wrong mark enabling us to cut through to the correct mark. We finished about 5 minutes ahead of them. Our average speed over the race was 4.27 knots, which given the conditions isn't tooooo bad. Alto...

Wed 11th Jan 2023 RPYC Sailing. An Excellent race, ideal winds and a course (20 marks to round) with mostly reaching and running. Ideal for Lady Liza and with a determined crew we made the best of it. Missed everybody and were 1st on handicap and 8th over the line (out of 15 yachts). For us a great result. Well not really, accidents do happen. This one occurred on the round down and rounding of King Mark. Wednesday Racing and a fleet of about 15 yachts, all of whom seemed to be in bunches as they rounded King. Really helpful video
Your welcome, one of these days I'll make another video as I now have a bimini with a crutch fitted into it and that is much sturdier than the roped on wooden crutch.
Do you have your battery locked down. Or is it just sitting in bottom of boat? Thanks
Hi, in this video it is simply an open battery on the floor near the seat. Since then I have bought a battery box and wired it up properly, its a bit bulky though. I also need to set up an emergency cut off (in case I fall over board, you never know!!).
Any chance you have the manual that can be shared online?
I found one on Etsy.
What is the inflatable brand and size
Hi Colin, Its a Nemo 2.3m inflatable. I bought it about 15 years ago and its very patched up now. I used it a few days ago to take the grandkids (2) ashore for ice-cream. A leaky floor made it a damp trip back - so more patches!
Hi Tony, I need to go through the bridges with my mb24, it is equipped of a fiddle adjusted inner forestay, would that be enough to keep tension or would you recommend using a pole as well? cheers
Hi, I'm not sure how your system would work. I think the MB24 had in line side stays - so they should remain under tension as the mast lowers, but I think you still need to fit wobble stoppers. To lower the mast you would need to set up two poles as an 'A' Frame with a block and tackle to the bow. I think there is still an MB24 association and I'm sure they would be best able to advise on lowering the mast.
@@MrBunyipDreaming Thank you for your answer, there is a block and tackle already fitted on the base of the inner stay so thats why i thought that could be enough, I can't find details for the mb24 association . happy sailing !
Thanks
It’s shit.
What kit do you recommend for the 50amp circuit breaker or fuse kit?
Hi, I went with the circuit breaker bought at the same time as the motor. I've now replaced it with the built in circuit breaker in the battery box, it just simplified the connections.
How's this motor going now? Have you used it much?
I've used it a couple of times, usually for 10-15 minute journeys. Once with two grand kids. Its working fine, but I have not put it through a full stress test (longer than 30 minutes). But it works well and is easy to set up. A lighter battery would help though, still considering lithium.
@@MrBunyipDreaming lithium is definitely the way to go. Thanks
promosm 😍
? Thank you for the comment, but I'm not sure what it means?
How many lb thrust is the motor rated for?
Its 54lb thrust. This equates (at least as I understand it) to a battery draw of about 50amps per hour. Tony
What battery is it?
Hi, I use a 50 amp AGM battery. It weighs 15kilos. In theory it will run the Watersnake at full tilt (that's forward setting 5) for nearly an hour, but AGM's shouldn't be dropped below 50% so I should get about 30 minutes. Not a lot but sufficient for me to get to the coffee shop with two grandkids, a 10 minute run each way. Tony
Thanks. Looking to replace a 3hp petrol motor on a tender similar to yours. Will probably go the lithium way as I use it a lot.
@@jeffh676 hi Jeff, let me know how you go with Lithium, please. I considered it but the manufacturer advised against it, I couldn't figure out why but they were concerned about the level of power being delivered. By the way, I got my Watersnake from Dinga.com, they were cheaper than BCF and Anaconda.
Well. Today was the day. 44/36 watersnake, 2.4m alloy hulled inflatable. 25amphr lithium. Me and the dog. Exactly 1hr runtime 95%at full power. Traveled 4.5km. Amazing couldn’t believe the distance. Only 25amphr battery weighing 3kg.
@@jeffh676 Wow!, 3kgs and excellent power, I'll have to look at this, 15kgs suddenly seems weigh too heavy.. Can you let me know the battery specs, particularly output current? Thanks, Tony
Hi Tony, an old video but as a new owner, just a few questions, spinaker poles attached to bottom of furling jib? And I think you said you used spinaker stay , stays? No need for gin pole at mast? Thanks in advance, cheers for the video, Tim
Hi Tim, sorry I've only just picked up your question. This particular vid shows lowering mast on my Bavaria 37. The poles are not spinnaker poles, they are specifically made for mast lowering. Because the Seldon mast has spreaders which are set towards the stern they are not in line with the mast. When the mast comes off centre the spreaders and stays provide no support to the mast. Therefore I have special in line spreaders which are hoisted up the mast by the spinnaker halyard. These temporary stays are fitted to wobble stopper, which help maintain tension in the lowering process. I'm not sure what a gin pole would do? Hope this helps, please contact again if you need further . Best wishes. Tony
@@MrBunyipDreaming thanks Tony for clearing that up, just gathering information so as to best plan that mission. Good to know about the mooring near the bridges thanks for great Video👍
Heavens, this is scary and dangerous, but maybe we have all been there?
Amazing race!!

@@MrBunyipDreaming Buonasera Tony.

Bought one a couple of days ago, on 11 foot aluminium tender, goes well in river current and easy to operate, very pleased myself, ok price too at BCF $349:00
Good, a friend of mine with a 23' yacht has just bought the 64lb to get him in and out of his pen for sailing. It appears to work well on the first tests.
Is it still going ok ? Am considering Water Snake over Minn Kota as not happy with the MK I have had before . Cheers 🍻
I hv it purchased in 1964 from Kuwait by my parents. Its still working.
I can't say I use mine much, but I like the idea that its still working and that things were once made to last! Best wishes Tony
Love it Tone but I would love to see you shouting the orders 😘xxxx
Fond memories of the Swan River.
Side stays or Shrouds?
Hi Bob, I've tended to use the terms interchangeably? Other expressions may apply, 'wires holding up the pole in the middle', is often better understood by my racing crew! I've improved the system and came through the bridges on Tuesday afternoon, largely without incident, although one twat overtook me just before the railway bridge, had the mast not been well stayed I may well have lost it!
@@MrBunyipDreaming I did most of my sailing on Tallships.
i have a question, the electrical engine is brush or brushless?
Great Tony xxxx

How do u actually operate dis machine for d first time including threading process and every part use and function
As the owner of a UFO34 who has done this exercise numerous times in all sorts of conditions, you made this look effortless. Well done! If only the power boating fraternity appreciated how vulnerable the mast / mast step is whilst it is coming down, they would slow down and reduce their wake.
Thanks Ashley, the voice over after belies the tension at the time! I'm going again in a couple of weeks, looking for another low tide in early morning!
a sewing machine is NEVER supposed to be making all of that loud racket while running!!! The operator with their head right up against almost wojuld go deaf in no time; besides that racket means something is bent, missing, or broken. In ALL cases should never be run more than a second to see how bad it is.
Actually the Borletti is a pretty loud machine especially with its covers off. And Tony may have been in a small room when he recorded this, so the camera may be making it seem louder than it really is. Compare with this video: czcams.com/video/vxxOlk5YalI/video.html Borletti 1102 machines are more collector's items than serious machines because of the number of plastic parts. But they are beautifully designed and the cam mechanism is really impressive.
Nor should it be run without something between to foot and feed dogs
Of course its an Alby!! what else would cruise the waves in 70knots of breeze in the Southern Ocean off Cape Horn!! Ok, I had my doubts about the ones off WA - but I stood corrected!
Albatross ??????? who knows?
