When you have the opportunity to visit the new AA museum in DC. Notice who’s honored under the same roof with Oprah, Rosa Parks, Eddie Robinson, Michael Jordan/Jackson, Harriet Tubman and a host of other larger than life legends. Dr. Isaac Greggs (Southern University’s Famed Legendary Band Director) the same guy who has more high schools and colleges imitating what he produced than any other. When we start seeing other bands imitated as much as Southern, then we can talk. Just stop stealing our shit. Just stop!

I don't usually comment on anything but I have to on this. The Jennifer Holiday song was performed by Jackson State first because they were the visitors in Baton Rouge. The lady from Jackson State had a big voice and sounded good. Southern's band did the same Jennifer Holiday song right after Jackson State because they were the home team. All on the same night, I was there and I remember. Also why is everyone upset because Jackson State band uniforms have Columbia blue? That's Jackson State if they want to wear Southern University's school color.

Who ever you are, THANK YOU FOR THAT!! I remember the JSU-SU game in ‘87. I was the band in high school, and if I remember correctly, Liberty High Marching Band (Amite County, Mississippi) performed the pre-game show that year. We performed for several JSU-SU games, both in Jackson and Baton Rouge. Any-who, this video finally cleared up a few erroneous misconceptions about The Sonic Boom. I once remember hearing the announcer for Tennessee State say some outlandish BS, “now copy this JSU,” or something to that effect. Really? Who want a to copy anything TSU does? Really?

SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY BAND is the Human Juke Box and Jackson State is The Sonic Boom of the South without question. However one fact that wasn't mentioned in either of the videos that puts the whole argument to rest and clearly proves who was the originator. Back in the day a Southern Alum and former band member under the direction of Dr. Issac Greggs later became one of the directors at Jackson State. Paul Adams brought the overall Southern style and look to Jackson State. So it goes without saying that Southern is truly often imitated but not duplicated. So please check the real facts not fiction.
